Companhia Paranaense de Energia - COPEL engages in the generation, transmission, distribution, and sale of electricity to industrial, residential, commercial, rural, and other customers primarily in the State of Parana, Brazil. As of December 31, 2014, the company operated 18 hydroelectric plants, 1 wind plant, and 1 thermoelectric plant with a total installed capacity of 4,754.4 megawatts; and owned and operated 2,174 kilometers of transmission lines and 189,925.4 kilometers of distribution lines. It holds concessions to distribute electricity in 394 municipalities in the State of Parana and in the municipality of Porto Uniao in the State of Santa Catarina. The company also provides telecommunication services to 4,227 corporate clients, including supermarkets, universities, banks, Internet service providers, and television networks, as well as to 17,534 retail clients; and broadband Internet access to public elementary and middle schools. In addition, it supplies piped gas to 26,052 customers, including thermoelectric plants, cogeneration plants, gas stations, other businesses, and residences through a gas distribution network covering 726 kilometers in the State of ParanĂ¡. ELP and BBD are near there bounce points this morning as Brazil Impeachment of the presidents looks more likely. A little market reversal needed for a pop ELP 7.35 up .03 BBD 7.03 down .05 DOW -130
ELP is a volatile stock to say the least. The driver is what happens to the President of Brazil. . Impeachment yes, stock goes up, Impeachment no, stock goes down. It popped over 9% on Friday and held most of the gains even when the market went sour. Stay tuned for the next episode in a ongoing soap opera. This scenario goes for BBD as well.
