Hello, Im new to this but decided I want to go after some restaurant stocks. I am only playing with $1,000. Im looking at DIN @ 17.4, PK @ 6.7 , DRI @ 38, TAST @ 1.3 Im wanting to split my 1K into 3 stocks about $300 each. so the high dollar ones I wont get much stock.I dont want all eggs in one basket. OR are all these not a good idea? the TAST I was thinking just to get 100 share as a coin flip. BUT I really like the DRI Any insight or suggestions appreciated. Thanks,
Personally, I HATE Applebee's and IHOP, so I wouldn't bother with DIN. TAST has had some insider buying in February. I don't ever see many people in Burger King restaurants, but then, I RARELY eat out these days. Look also into restaurant supply type stocks--I just bought WBT (thank you whoever brought up the insider buying at WBT-I took a closer look and really liked the stock) MIDD is another one I like, The MotleyFool also likes MIDD for what it's worth. I am a REIT Freak (REITFREIK?) So would keep an eye on PK. I agree with you on DRI-the technical chart shows a pretty steady if slow climb the last 5 years so this might be a great buying opp. FINAL EDIT! Thanks for DRI! I just set an alert if it goes under 39. Hope I can have some cash waiting.
Thanks! I didnt even think of restaurant supply type stocks. Im gonna look into them! Thanks for your input.
This relates to my other concern in the aftermath thread i started. Not trying to derail or pump that one. But i cant put my finger on it either, but just have feeling there will be new financial pressures on any indoor dining industry from here forward. Be it extra payroll for cleaning, inspections, protective equipment. Idk. Maybe im over analysizng, but that IS what we do here, right?. Or try to? Im scared of any indoor dining until i read or engage in some discussion with them. New policies moving forward...all that jazz.
Your right. More regulation or rules IS a possibility. BUT I dont think that will make any real difference. Hopefully
I agree, and since this is probably the ultimate Black Swan event of the 21st century (so far) your concerns are very valid. I, however, am looking at this as a "Five-Year Plan" of sorts. Of course companies will change, some won't survive, but it would be beautiful to find some oversold diamonds in the rough down here while we're waiting for the other shoe to drop.
DIN is up from 17.4 to 25.0, PK 6.7 to 7.7, DRI 38 to 53.9 Kinda wish I didnt over think! I did buy RUTH at 4.16 now its at 6.45 also TACO at 2.67 now its 3.71. I didn't lose!
Are these long term holds or plays? We are in for some more rough times, my friend, you might want to DCA for more shares. Unless, of course, you're swing trading them.
I used to respect the Fool but, these days, I think they're so far off their game, they aren't far from a random number generator.
Their marketing is like nails on a chalkboard to me. The long random wordflood with the video/spoken pieces remind me of the crazy "HOW I CAn PrOvE THe IlLumInaTI PuT FlOURidE In ThE WaTEr" nutpieces you'd see 15,20 years ago. The books are really good and I re-read them every few years. They also have some good research and picks but it's all become "BUY OUR SUBSCRIPTION!!!" Now.
Bump for this thread, but I am SO stoked with WBT--I bought at 3.30 and it's gone over 6.00 today. I'm in at such a beautiful price, this is a long term hold for me. I wish DRI would come down to my price. I really like that one if I can get it low enough. I'm willing to wait both to buy and hold!
