Activision Blizzard, Inc. (ATVI) is one of the largest interactive gaming and entertainment companies in the world. Headquartered in Santa Monica, California and founded in 2008 through the merger of Vivendi Games and Activision, the company is traded on the S&P 500 and NASDAQ under the ticker symbol NASDAQ: ATVI. Activision Blizzard currently includes five business units: Activision, Blizzard Entertainment, Major League Gaming, Activision Blizzard Studios, and King Digital Entertainment. The company owns and operates additional studios under an independent studios model, including Treyarch, Infinity Ward and Toys for Bob, and its titles have broken a number of release records. Call of Duty: Black Ops III grossed $550 million in worldwide sales during its opening weekend in 2015, making it the biggest entertainment launch of the year. The company's franchises also include Call of Duty, Destiny, Skylanders, Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo, and Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, Sierra Entertainment's King's Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest and SWAT, Leisure Suit Larry, and The Legend of Spyro, and King's Candy Crush Saga, Pet Rescue Saga, and Farm Heroes Saga.
I like how ATVI looks this year. Imo it's a bit undervalued, especially considering great expectations about Overwatch. To be honest, I'm more excited about Blizzard's part of this business, since they have always been more set for innovations and experiment than their counterpart Activision. Really looking forward to see where will ATVI be in a decade, consider it a solid option for long-term investition. What you guys think about this stock?
Guess it's buying time. Though ATVI has been showing a strong uptrend for a month, so now it might be a bit too late to join the stream. Especially with Overwatch OBT drawing near.
Agree. Though I guess since Blizzard did agree for a merger, it might have been facing some problems that we are not aware about. Anyway, by the end of the day ATVI keeps releasing sound projects, so I'm okay with that.
Reported after close today (5/5/16) Earnings: EPS $0.23 Revenue $908M Estimates: EPS $0.13 Revenue $817.7M Up 4.27% in after hours
Well, happily no big shock here, they did just as well as was expected. Though I wonder why I haven't noticed any mentions regarding the upcoming movie. ATVI doesn't count much on it?
ATVI not a gamer but these earnings are impressive from all companies inside. I wonder if this move will fade though
They better do rely on it though. It's their long-waited 'Warcraft' movie. Even if the film itself is utter garbage, millions of people will go see it solely because of the nostalgic sentiment (including myself)
Ascending triangle forming, and with E3 coming up next week, this one could break resistance and rally to all time highs (pardon my free-hand drawing).
Things to keep in mind: E3 is next week - but everyone hated the Call of Duty trailer, so this could actually not end up causing the spike people are hoping for. Warcraft movie opening weekend numbers will also be released.
I suppose no grown-up person buys CoD, yet most of them prefer to stick around ATVI Guess we're about to see some serious announcements from them...
You're wrong about that, actually. I know some grown ups who ONLY play games like CoD. Because they're very busy people with jobs and familes to worry about and they just don't have time to play big, time-consuming games. And what CoD offers is simply a couple of evenings well-spent. Do you watch House of Cards? There's a guy who happen to be a USA President (played by Kevin Spacey) who does just that. He plays only CoD when he has some spare time.
Well, I feel like the more you value your time, the more you challenge the quality of products you consume. And if I played first-person shooters, my point would go for Battlefield...
And what about Overwatch for example? These 10-15 minute matches fit perfectly in my schedule! Not to mention how much fun it is.
