Just some speculation... With work from home, people can buy homes where they really want to live now. So maybe that will have an adverse effect on people travelling? e.g. if there's somewhere they really wanted to go, they could just choose to live there? Airline industry has got to be the only one relying on technology from the 1960's. The real reason for not flying the 737 Max is that they are relying on a design from more than 50 years ago. Too afraid to move the wing position. Once VR gets its act together, you won't need to spend all that money on one-time travel. Buy the eperience and keep it to re-visit whenever you want. I'm assuming the VR experience will be more elegant than the Google Maps experience lol.
Man, the global tourism industry could take years to recover. I'm still surprised that companies like altezza are feeling well and still send tourists to Mount Kilimanjaro. I wish I could travel but our government closed the border due to lockdown restrictions. I wish this crap will end soon.
I don’t own any tourism stocks, but am very bullish on travel. I see about 20 people per day. People want to travel. Once the vaccine picks up speed I think we’ll see people return to travel in a big way. Prob is a lot of the stock are beaten up worse than their stock price reflects. Tread lightly.
Im the opposite on tourism. I think it will be 3 to 5 years before things are back to the hot tourism market we had, at least. It mat never be fully back but a good portion will return. Too many bucket lists to take care of for it to just end.
I don't want to sound pessimistic but I strongly believe that the whole touristic industry will recover in a decade or so, at best. Last year we planned to go to Spain for a week or so to celebrate my brothers birthday but had to cancel the trip due to restrictions related to the pandemic. This June faced the same problem when trying to visit Russia.
The other day spoke to a fellow travel agent and he shares my worries about the nearest future of tourism.
A couple years ago there were stories of people giving up flying because they didn't like the carbon cost of it. It's kinda crazy to fly a thousand miles away, spend a weekend there, then fly right back.
I agree with you, with all the restrictions I think it would take years before the tourism industry comes back to normal
