On October 2, 2018, Elon stepped down as chairman of the board at Tesla. It was part of an settlement with the SEC that he step down for a period of three years. I wish to point out, that period will be over in approximately seven months. I'm not sure Elon will go back. It's not like anything changed with Robyn Denholm at the chair. If he does go back, I'm not sure what will change or if it will impact the stock price. Any thoughts?
I would say it would be a negative for the company for Elon to take more power. He’s becoming increasingly unhinged.
I'm with Tom, a moot point. The team is assembled and the machine is well oiled. They have many unknown tools in the box and are light years ahead of the pack.Elon is most likely as involved as he wants to be. I personally don't see how he could be any type of negative asset. There are a lot of elements that are unknown to many. A lot of people admire his style and mystique.
Here is a political thought. Tesla has idled their Fremont model 3 lines for two weeks, due to supply chain problems. Meanwhile, the Shanghai plant is operating at full capacity. The point I wish to make is that if you have two facilities producing about the same number of cars, one has a higher profit margin, and your inputs are cut in half, you are going to idle the facility with the lowest profit margin. This is a case of the Chinese manufacturing plant demonstrating it is a more valuable asset than Fremont.
One more political thought. Any time there is such a major supply chain problem that disrupts an entire industry, I am suspicious of foul play. The rolling blackouts of 2000, for example, were caused by Enron (with the help of a few others) creating a supply problem. I've seen a lot of talk about a semiconductor shortage but no direct cause. Intel has commissioned TSMC to manufacture their next processors but it's not like Intel's fabs have gone offline. Intel needs help because they are not at the 5 nm node but that is only needed for their CPU/GPU dies. Intel can make a lot of DSP, MCU, storage, memory, etc. Cars generally do not need the smallest process node. Even Tesla's FSD chip is built on the 14um node. By the way, I just found out the 5nm node using extreme UV lithography is going to allow up to 14 layers while the 7nm node allows only 4 or 5 in some cases. That is going to be a wild increase in transistor density. Think of how many dies per wafer if the feature density quadruples per horizontal area. I don't think anyone is citing lithography as the production bottle neck. Every report I read indicates bumping and packaging but surely we learned how to scale those things some time ago, even at this feature size. For what it's worth, I still use a desktop PC and upgraded the hell out of it last year, when I could see the chip shortage coming. This sort of research and broad view of various industries is what is needed to be a successful investor, IMO. We should all be chess and bridge players, so understand cause and effect a few moves ahead.
What is the average hourly wage in the country today? According to the 2021 data, the minimum hourly wage in China per hour is around $1.52. In like a month, a worker can earn up to $161.07.Oct 29, 2020
As I understand it, minimum wage varies by province in China. In Shanghai, minimum wage is 22 yuan per hour. At 15 cents per yuan, that comes to $3.30 USD per hour as the minimum wage. I have no idea how many, if any, Tesla workers make minimum wage.
Covered in the constitution " freedom of speech" case closed. The 420 tweet was a hair different, " funding secured" was the ace in the hole. They paid the paltry fine ELON took a well deserved break and the rest is history.
A follow up on the SEC attention. Our boy has brass ba**s and sense of humor. Plus billions to play with. My kind of guy. Don't think he is overly concerned, most of them are probably shareholders
SEC can fine him for manipulation. He pays the $250k and goes on with his day. Hell, Tether just paid NYAG $18.5M and went on with business as usual.
This is the one I'm kicking myself over, missed the low being stupid and it dont want to retreat yet. Tesla will be the biggest position I hold.
