I'm not sure if there will be any interest in this or not but figured what the hell why not find out. I created a Public Stock Market Game at Investopedia...

    http://www.investopedia.com/simulator/portfolio/?gameid=348138

You do need to register at the site to access it. If you can, use your Stockaholics username if it fits their requirements. You have $500,000 to start with and we'll try and see who comes out on top by July 1st and secondary how many can beat the S&P benchmark over that time. Game is set to expire on July 1st. If it looks like people are into this we can see about running some more after that.

Ah, but I think I set a percentage limit on a single position to force learning position sizing :D

I tried to join but the link does not work. I was able to search for the game using game name "Stockaholics" and it let me join. I wonder if we should move this thread to "Stock Market Today" as well so more eyes notice it. Maybe change the title to "Paper trading competition - Join in!" or something as well so people get involved. Thoughts?

Now I just need to remember to actually use it, as I'm already using ThinkOrSwim paper trading, and tracking in excel as well and on the StockTracker app on iPhone. Will be difficult to remember to duplicate all the work on this game.

No problem with moving it in the forum, but one thing I can't do is change the name. Once it is created the name cannot be edited. As for remembering, some of it will depend on if the people here are even interested in using it. If they are, activity within this thread may be frequent enough to remind us to go in. Nothing lost if people do not care to do this, just thought it might be a learning tool for all of us.

Just caught on what you meant by changing the name. I'm pretty quick on that stuff... Sure, change the name of the thread to whatever you want.

Moved to the Stock Market Today forum and changed the thread title to make it more clear to users what it is. We'll see how this does for the month. I opened positions in almost everything I have currently open in my portfolio, so hopefully I do well in this game!

Tormented help me? I have mixed feelings on this site. Do I use feelings to make a decision. If you can give me a honest answer. People have tried to slap down some of my opinions. You are hoping to get people to join a hypothetical contest. I have offered people to give me a symbol and I will invest 100 dollars in my family contest which involves my real money and I cannot get one taker. I ask you kind person, are you willing to give me a symbol and I will buy on your suggestion. You have nothing to lose. Why does that offer scare people? Ican post a screenshot to prove the existence. You cannot hurt my feelings.

First of all, I don't give financial advice. People slapping down opinions of yours is probably just conversation/discussion. If everyone agreed on everything, there wouldn't even be a stock market. There needs to be a bear for every bull. There needs to be traders. There needs to be investors.

Also, this competition thread is from 2016.

Of Course, now I know why I was forced to take reading 101 3 times. Still I am looking for opinion not advice. My ways are in concrete. I still don't understand the fear of playing stock market with my money. Consider this my fund has 15 positions, 1 more position cannot sink my boat or make it float. So why would no one want to play in my game. Ask Ham Porter if he is willing. Its a game for the participants using my real money.

Ok are you looking for a long-term investment? A day trade? A swing trade? Seems odd to be asking for someone to pick your 16th stock for you.

I am assuming your in your 40's since you played ball with Ham Porter. I think he could have had a career if he hadn't invested so much allowance money on Twinkies. Let me explain. I am trying to teach my boys an investing principle. So They both have been convinced by someone to put their money in something safe. Their in their 40's. So I am showing them they can make their own mutual fund. You don't have to do it. My last 2 picks for real were CNPQ which is being fed to the dogs right now in North Korea. The one I made yesterday is APH for my entry. I used an old tried and true method that can work sometimes. Taught to me in the 90's by an old codger. Of the 15 entries 8 are my grandchildren, so I asked them to name a food they liked and I would find the S&P company that made that food. Now it proves my point a mutual fund is better that a fixed income product. I chose you as one of the people I would ask based on what you say on your posts. It is just for fun. Pretend it is for the stock challenge this website is doing. To prove my point to my kids needs a minimum 5 years to show the difference. I would love to do Stockaholics challenge but I don't remember my password or where I wrote it down. Is it okay if I call you Ham? Of course it is. The difference between me and most people on this site is I want to tell you what to do. If you participate it will allow you to see the difference in choosing for fun and actually using your own money. Lets make this fun. What would Ham Porter invest in. Again I wish you the best. I will actually give you fodder for your choice. Pick a company that makes the baseball gear that Ham Porter wore. If you say LuLemon your fired. Send me a changeup.
