Guess this is what we have been waiting for. A new driver is on its way by late Thursday. Link: https://www.facebook.com/AMDGaming/
AMD giving CEO pay raises and acquiring new company--sounds like signs of improving financial confidence to me.
After the great reception of the 480, they should really keep pushing to keep the momentum going. Im still waiting for the day that they put out a flagship card that rivals or beats NVDA.
AMD now in sync with the Nasdaq AMD RX 480, 470, 460 UK release date, price, features and specification The AMD RX 480 is available now. The card might have limited availability initially from retailers in the UK, but AMD has already moved to reassure buyers and retailers that there won't be a shortage of stock. The RX 470 and 460, although announced, have not yet been released. An on-sale date is expected in the next few weeks. It was sort of a unusual trading day as AMD was up early in a down market. Then the Markets go green and AMD gets in sync with the Nasdaq.. Later it starts lagging the Nasdaq but does close up. We have seen this before where it was accumulating and became range bound before it broke out of the bullish pennant. The next few trading sessions may give a better confirmation. Like I said prior to the said breakout, we want to see the pennant get tighter on increased volume.
What are people's thoughts on earnings coming up on the 21st? Those who are in from the $4's (or earlier @Tiptopptrader), will you be taking profits before earnings, or will you be holding through earnings? I'm thinking about selling half my position pre-earnings if we're around $5.3x-$5.4x by then.
I sold half of my Jan 20 2017 $5 calls last week and keeping the remaining 50% along with the following through earnings. Aug 19 $6 calls July 29 $6 calls
I sold half my shares at 4.30ish. I am holding on to what I have and am thinking of adding some longish-term options.
AMD still accumulating and smack dab in the middle of the pennant. Unless you go to a re-seller the RX 480 is still sold out with delayed deliveries. I smell $$$ for earnings. This sort of trumps NVDA's new card as everyone is not going to buy a second card as the budget war has started. Every Radeon Software release strives to deliver new features, better performance and stability improvements. Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.1 Highlights The Radeon™ RX 480’s power distribution has been improved for AMD reference boards, lowering the current drawn from the PCIe bus. A new “compatibility mode” UI toggle has been made available in the Global Settings menu of Radeon Settings. This option is designed to reduce total power with minimal performance impact if end users experience any further issues. This toggle is “off” by default. Performance improvements for the Polaris architecture that yield performance uplifts in popular game titles of up to 3% [1]. These optimizations are designed to improve the performance of the Radeon™ RX 480, and should substantially offset the performance impact for users who choose to activate the "compatibility" toggle. No news that I can find on the pre-market drop. My guess it could be a downgrade of some sort not released to the public yet
