AMD lost 5 cents on very low volume today with the Nasdaq down and even NVDA losing a couple cents. Now AMD is in upper part of the pennant. As the pennant tightens the probability of a break out is higher and normally it is brought on with high volume. The accumulation is keeping it range bound until the big boys get their fill.

    Hoping this will happen...

Apple iMac 2016 release date and specs rumors: VR-ready iMac to arrive with powerful Intel chipset, AMD GPU?

    apple-devices.png

    ....

However, tech observers are saying that Kaby Lake will only happen if Apple decides to release the new iMac in 2016. If the company will opt for a 2017 launching, the American tech giant may use the more powerful Cannonlake processor, which is the expected successor of the Kaby Lake.

Meanwhile, previous report suggested that not only will the new iMac carry a powerful processor; it will also have one of the best GPU in the market today, the AMD's Polaris. There were reports a few months earlier saying that AMD has signed a deal with Apple in October 2015 to produce GPU hardware for some of their future releases.

The new AMD graphic chipset is also expected to help Apple achieve a VR-ready iMac. If rumors prove to be true, iMac 2016 will be the first device from the company to sport the latest VR technology.

As of now, fans will have to wait for the company to announce the iMac 2016. Until then, all rumors and speculations must be taken with a grain of salt.

    You are welcome:)

    Good luck.

Its looking good today I must say although so is everything.

I want AMD to get back to its Athlon XP days at some point even if I have a bit of bearish sentiment

AMD RX 490 release date: Dual GPU is AMD's answer to Nvidia GTX 1080?
Speculations suggest that AMD is readying a new GPU card that will take the newly released Nvidia GTX 1080 head-on.

There have already been leaks of AMD's follow-up to its new RX graphics cards lineup, and it is expected that the new cards will be announced soon.

The upcoming RX 490 is said to be a 4K-gaming, top-tier class GPU that will take on other first-rate cards on the market, most notably Nvidia's new GTX 1080. While AMD has yet to officially come out with the new GPU tier, WCCFTech says that that company is making sure that it tags its new GPU lineups as the RX 4XX series, meaning that there are other iterations aside from the already confirmed RX 480 GPU. According to speculations, the RX 460 and RX 470 step-down versions are already in the pipeline, so it is more than likely that AMD is also preparing a top-tier, step-up addition to the new RX lineup.

Meanwhile, since leaks on the supposed new AMD RX GPU came out, observers are saying that since the RX 480 can already take on the newly-released GTX series from Nvidia, it is expected that a step-up version will more likely be a good contender for the top-specs GTX, the 1080. According to rumors, the new RX 490 is also based on the new Polaris 10 architecture by AMD, and there are speculations that based on supposed listings for the device, the new GPU is more likely a dual-GPU one, which will be one of its main improvements. A dual-GPU configuration means that the RX 490 will offer roughly the minimum performance for two RX 480 GPUs in a Crossfire arrangement.

As for its release date, it is expected that the RX 490 will come out towards the latter part of the year at the earliest, to compete with the already-released GTX 1080.

I hope they do. I tend to buy cards near the top when I buy. I got my 980ti last year for 700$ and I would like some competition at the top not just the bottom.

As AMD is down 5 cents this morning on NVDA's downgrade pulling the semi's and the Nasdaq down. This is worth a read:

Wells Fargo Cuts Nvidia To Hold On Growing Competition

Nvidia (NVDA) is falling Friday, hurt by a downgrade from Wells Fargo.

Analyst David Wong and his team cut their rating on the stock to Underperform from Market Perform, He writes that while the company has done an “excellent job” creating value in the past two years by growing its core gaming graphics processor unit (GPU) business, as well as establishing itself in new segments in processors for other applications, renewed competition from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) in graphics and Intel (INTC) in coprocessors could create headwinds to growth and possibly make it difficult for Nvidia to beat expectations in the near term. Moreover, the stock is well above his $30 to $36 valuation range, leading to the downgrade.

Nvidia’s share gains in graphics may be reversing. Despite having apparently peaked in unit graphics market share some quarters ago, Nvidia’s gaming GPU revenue have continued to show good revenue growth, in the 17-58% year/year range in each of the last 4 quarters (July 2015 through April 2016). We think that this may be the result of Nvidia’s increasing dominance in the graphics card market. We think that AMD might be able to regain share in the graphics card market in 2H2016, from a low base, with its 14nm Polaris offering targeting the high volume mainstream segment of the graphics card market.

Renewed competition from Intel in coprocessors. Nvidia appears to now be driving growth for its coprocessor products by expanding beyond the HPC market, addressing applications like deep learning and artificial intelligence hyperscale/cloud market. We expect Nvidia will be able to continue to grow its coprocessor business in the future but we wonder if rising competition from Intel in this segment creates some headwind to momentum in the space. We think the Knights Landing family might help Intel regain some share in the HPC coprocessor market, though Nvidia has also introduced a new coprocess0r family this year, its Tesla P100.

Hold through earnings? or sell before earnings? The next few days going into earnings may help make the answer less cloudy. :D

Even with a beat it is never a lock the price is going to go up, and in retrospect a miss it is not a lock the price is going down. Much depends on growth moving forward from the mouth of the CEO as well as captured market share.

Hold or sell before earnings? Many of us got in from the mid-two's to the low fours so we have some leverage for the downside should it happen. For those that bought late it is a harder decision.

Looking at the recent trading, the up days have had more volume than the down days as AMD sits above the pennant. This is not a lock that the price is going to shoot up but it is a positive note.

So far LIsa Su has delivered and let's hope she does so again...TTT
