BYD has vertically integrated shipping into their business. BYD seems to be trying to out vertically integrate Tesla.
Does anyone remember when the Chevy Bolt beat the Tesla 3 to market in 2017? GM was going to burry Tesla. At least the Tesla killer chat has mostly gone away. There is still far more than justified, though; which is... some. Mary Barra is still talking, though.
Still sailing on a 24% gain. This one throws tempur tantrums and makes some crazy moves. Being this far ahead in a new position is easy on the nerves. This is the only position I own in this account other than some cash.Looking forward to the meeting and more needed news. The 3 for 1 split should easily pass, don't see any major obstacles. Moving forward the remainder of this year should be rewarding. 744.15. presplit 248.05 aftersplit If we can stay above these numbers, life is good. If not it's spam and crackers.
Tesla just signed the biggest nickle supply contract in history that allocates a significant ratio of the global nickle supply. From what I can tell, this will create a three year battery supply problem for their competitors. We have seen what a 15% semiconductor supply reduction can do to supply chains. I expect this to be similar on the battery side. I'm not sufficiently familiar with nickle mining to have any insight into how quickly the industry can ramp supply so perhaps this is no big deal. My money says it is a big deal, though. When EV manufacturers trying to ramp, they are going to be limited by cell supply. Worse, demand problems will drive up battery prices at a time when EV builders are already building cars below cost.
That will be coming here, soon. Soon, it will be difficult to sell an ICE vehicle because everyone will want EV. I know there are some sharp disagreements with this position but it will go the same path as the iPod. The iPod was crap compared to cassette Walkman until people realized how much better it was. Mindset change takes time but there will be a sharp tipping point from "I don't like change." to "Me too."
I'm just looking forward to having nice quiet roads with all the EVs about. Waaaay too many pickups, muscle cars, and motorcycles who floor it around here
As far as I know, the only two companies making money on electric vehicles are Tesla and BYD. BYD is now a battery supplier to Tesla in Shanghai.
It looks like Tesla is going to use BYD blade batteries in a Berlin made model Y variant. Shipments have already started. Given the number of battery suppliers and pack variations, it looks like Tesla is looking for cells between couch cushions to build into a car. They must be massively cell constrained.
