I'm tracking a few things that could one day be investment opportunities. I've been doing this for years. Every once in a while, an idea comes along that I believe will change the world. Most of these die on the vine. The odd one goes on to change the world to some degree. I had been putting these posts, such as the evolution of Achates Power, into the thread of the company I suspect will be most affected by the technology. In the case of Achates Power, that is a lot of companies but I've posted with Ford and Tesla comments. I've stumbled across another company working on two piston per cylinder ICE. This one is a European company called INNengine. https://innengine.com/ The INNengine platform is similar to Achates but INNengine has figured out a wonderfully elegant and effective way to implement variable port timing. They have a 90 pound, 120hp, 0.5 liter, prototype engine that is currently powering a Mazda Miata. The tiny package is extremely compelling as it does not have the bulk of dual crank shafts and a gear system to connect them. INNengine is making much less grandiose claims about the performance of their opposed piston platform but they do talk about essentially no vibration, 22% fuel consumption improvement, and some other benefits. European Auto desperately needs something to keep them in business. Every one of them are on the brink. If INNengine can get their platform developed quickly enough, perhaps in the next couple of years, they could be the ultimate bridge platform between ICE and EV.
