I have had an extra $1370 siting around today......notice the use of the "past tense" word 'had".

So....I bought another 31 share of PLTR in my primary account. I will continue to add shares to this position when I have some small extra money to throw at it.

I am not seeing much more news or commentary today.....a symptom of a good booming market as the media fear mongers are being driven into hiding. BUT....never fear.....they will be back....they never go away for long.

AND....in line with what we are seeing today....eight of my nine stocks are up nicely today. My single RED stock....AMZN. Although the loss in AMZN is tiny so I expect they will join the GREEN crowd some time today. I am looking for a GREEN SWEEP by the close today.

HEY....RG. I think you buying a summer house near the beach is really COOL. It will be a good investment and at the same time provide enjoyment for you and some side income. A......win, win, win. It will also serve as diversification of your financial assets.

    SMART.

Well today is a good day for the investment accounts. Both the 401k, HSA and Brokerage accounts are at ATH's. It's been really rough holding onto all this NVDA stock during this year of stagnation... haha. I think we are all in agreeance to ignore the noise and follow our plan. Well I talked earlier about changing up the collection (selling some cars!). I have a customer that has a coworker looking for a C5 corvette stopping by this evening. I don't have it listed for sale and don't really need to sell it but if the price is right I have had 9 years of enjoyment with it and would like to move up into a C7 or maybe a C8. Mainly I would like to have the shop space... I have a customer waiting list stacking up and most of the shop is my own cars.

Sounds like things are BOOMING for you TireSmoke. Well done.

A Corvette move up.....hell yeah. Some time you just have to reward yourself when the markets are booming. It is a nice way to diversify some of your money into a hard asset that will probably hold most if not all of its value. It may not go up as much as the stock markets.....but it is a good way to diversify.

As to the rest of us....it is an EPIC year. We are seeing a big BREAK OUT today. There is a lot of pent up upward pressure in the markets.

I am still eight of nine GREEN today. AMZN continues in the red.

We have now seen stocks back off a little bit from the big gains this morning....but they are still up very nicely. The BULLS and the WINNERS are running today. Hopefully an omen for the rest of the week.....and on to year end.

The markets today remind me of something that my elderly mother-in-law said......"I am surrounded by money". As she stood in her kitchen looking at all the checks....scattered on the counters and table.... that had come in the mail.

Of course....they were ALL lottery mail SCAMS and other SCAMS. She had been responding to so many of the scam mailings that she was getting 50-100 pieces of mail a day. We had to get the largest post office box they had......to move her mail address away from her house and put a stop to it.

Of course she continued to have phone conversations with the Nigerians and the Jamaicans......but....at least she had it drilled into her to never give out her credit card number or send them money. She was still competent enough to just "play" with them on the phone. (A very dangerous game)

We were watching her checking account and credit card daily. At one point we did find a bunch of cash in her underwear drawer that she was using to send to the lottery scam mailers so we would not see it when we looked at her accounts online.

Fortunately we got through it without any disasters happening.

My thought on cars is try to buy ones where you are going to lose the least! Always buy the best example available as far as condition, color and options. Finding rare colors and options help as well especially in the corvette world and sometimes these fly under the radar so you can get a decent deal. End of the day I buy cars I don't mind getting stuck with.

Speaking of my mother-in-law. I took over management of my in-laws $75,000 account in about 1995.

I revamped the entire account....which was ALL in one fund and got it invested in my BIG CAP Portfolio Model of that era.....including NKE, MSFT, COST and others. I also got them on a program of automatic monthly investing of about $700 per month.

When my father-in- law died.....I was able to get my mother-in-law to invest $2000 monthly from her retirement income for the rest of her life......nearly 9 years. Over that time I was able to grow that portfolio to about $1.4MILLION.

Her grandson.....the son of her deceased son.....was one of the three heirs at the time of her death. He and the whole family expected that each heir would get about $10,000. SURPRISE....each of the three heirs got about $465,000. No one in the family had any idea since I was the only one that was managing and had access to her accounts and financial records.

    THE POWER.....of LONG TERM INVESTING.

Also to keep up with my portfolio changes:

I had some dividends in cash so I bought up 21 shares of PLTR as a micro position. As I mentioned in past threads I transitioned most of my AMD into NVDA this year and that has proven to be a very good move... wish I did it years ago but it has served me well so no complaints.
NVDA, VGT, AMD & now PLTR = Up 117.7% YTD

Sounds like I buy art TireSmoke.

I try to buy the best of the best that I can find and afford. QUALITY....quality....quality. In the end I always buy ONLY art that I am willing and want to live with....I try to not be a flipper. When I do sell something it is to make an UPGRADE.

Like you......I am very knowledgeable about the painting and sculpture market in the areas that we collect.

Once in a while we hit on a good one. For example we purchased.....last December.....a Western bronze sculpture for $15,000. This week that same sculpture......identical to ours.......sold at auction for.....$27,000. The artist died just a month after our purchase and he is very sought after.

Of course we are not going to sell since we bought it to enjoy.....so at this point we have made....NOTHING.

AND there are no guarantees with buying...."things". The most important aspect of collectables, cards, comics, art, antiques, etc, etc, etc....is knowledge of the short and long term market and a good eye.

HAPPY to see NVDA hitting a new all time high today. Now we need a new all time close.

Nvidia heads for record close as AI chipmaker’s market cap tops $3.4 trillion

    https://www.cnbc.com/2024/10/14/nvi...ipmaker-market-cap-tops-3point4-trillion.html

    Important Information:
    • Nvidia shares hit an all-time high today. The company is riding a HUGE wave of demand for their chips.
    • Microsoft, Meta, Google, and Amazon are all fighting for Nvidia’s graphics processing units in large quantities for their AI programs
    • Nvidia is worth over $3.4 trillion.....a gain of above nine-fold since the start of last year.

A bit of a drop off toward the close today. I ended the day nicely in the GREEN with only two red stocks....PLTR and AMZN. I also got in a good beat on the SP500 by 0.62%.

I will say regarding the stories and things that I post on here from my life.......they are INTENDED to show others what is possible and.....perhaps MOTIVATE.

In fact.....that is the whole purpose of this thread.....to ENCOURAGE others to become lifelong investors and grow their money.

Another morning driven by headline reading algo trading computers. A little article about the government putting a cap on AI chip exports to China triggered a huge kneejerk sell off of chip stocks. Sit back and do nothing. Annoying in the short term but will wash out in the mid to long term. All part of the game.

This is the era of tyranny. The world is rich in assholes.

I particularly like how Ayatollah Khomeini threatened destruction of the Jewish state, lobbed hundreds of missiles at Israel and, now that Israel is poised to counter strike, is now pleading for peace at the UN. His message is a little uneven. "Death to all Jews!", "Please don't hurt us!". lol!

But, in the case of Xi, I'm not sure moving iPhone manufacturing from China to India is an upgrade. Like the vast majority of leaders, I wouldn't trust Narendra Modi as far as I could throw him.

From what I can tell, ANY leader that has been in power more than 10 years is corrupt. That's a whole lot of leaders.

Yeah TireSmoke I heard that story on the chips on the way up to Dallas. Of course I was in the RED today due to only three stocks being down in my account....NVDA, PLTR, and MSFT. It is very difficult for me to be in the green when NVDA has a bad day. I also got beat by the SP500 today by 1.14%.

Back to the chips.....it is simply SUPREMELY SILLY for the market and NVDA to be down today. It is not like NVDA is dependent on business from China or the Middle East. They have so much business just from USA companies and demand for their top of the line chips that selling....as to make anything else irrelevant. In addition with only a few months to go for BIden....I doubt anything is going to happen at all.

    In any event.....thank you.......GOVERNMENT.

I HATE these sorts of knee-jerk days in the markets.
