A nice example too regarding the tariff info. You mean these tariffs also are going to result in the US paying more for imports!!??? It's not just a one way street?? Is that really how this works? Oh Lori, expect a phone call from our administration over this.
Here is the OBVIOUS market today.....now lets keep it going till the close. Nasdaq leads S&P 500, Dow higher as Microsoft, Meta earnings reassure Wall Street https://finance.yahoo.com/news/live...-earnings-reassure-wall-street-133642500.html
Needless to say I DONT agree with much of the recent posts on tariffs, the WTO, etc, etc. But I will not get into that topic on here since no one is ever going to change anyone else's opinion on that sort of topic.......and to me it is a waste of time to discuss it. BUT....I encourage anyone else to continue that discussion as you choose.....with my only contribution being that I generally dont agree.
I also like this little story today. Nvidia stock rises to lead chip rally after Meta, Microsoft back AI investment plans https://finance.yahoo.com/news/nvid...osoft-back-ai-investment-plans-124324390.html "Nvidia (NVDA) stock rose as much as 4.3% early Thursday, leading chip stocks higher after Big Tech leaders Meta (META) and Microsoft (MSFT) reaffirmed their aggressive AI investment plans." MY COMMENT We continue to see the recent fear-mongering being stripped away. IGNORE it all and stay the course. When you think about what choice do you even have as a normal everyday investor.
AND.....as usual for many months now.....the economic data continues to come in nicely in terms of FED rate cuts this year. US manufacturing sectors slump deepens in April https://finance.yahoo.com/news/us-manufacturing-sectors-slump-deepens-140423984.html Continuing jobless claims reach highest level since November 2021, initial claims hit 2-month high https://finance.yahoo.com/news/cont...nitial-claims-hit-2-month-high-130327426.html "Weekly claims for unemployment benefits hit their highest level in two months during the final full week of April while the number of Americans filing for unemployment insurance on an ongoing basis reached the highest level since November 2021 as the US labor market continues to show signs of slowing." Although manufacturing data was ACTUALLY higher than predicted and as usual.......the "experts".....are usually wrong as they defy all laws of probability. In addition.....this sort of government data is NOTORIOUSLY inaccurate and it is NOT something that I ever consider as an investor.
i obviously have no inside information on this but to me it SMELLS like a classic media HIT-JOB. Tesla denies report that the EV maker is looking to replace Elon Musk https://www.cnbc.com/2025/05/01/tes...board-seeks-new-ceo-to-replace-elon-musk.html
NOW that we have all the above out of the way....lets talk about what really counts today. Of course I am talking about earnings that will come after the bell ......AMZN and AAPL. We will see if the recent big tech HUGE EARNINGS BEATS can continue. I would think that AAPL is the most POTENTIALLY tentative of the big cap earnings that we will get this time around. BUT.....earnings so far have been so good.....and I still have high expectations for AMZN and AAPL. Of course I own both of them.
Of course as I sit and read and listen to Varney........the media continues to churn away......pumping out the DRAMA and fear-mongering.....as the markets open with a big BOOM. What a disconnect. You know some of us under about age 35-40.....remember the old days when the media did not report or give OPINIONS. Those days are now long gone. The current state of the media certainly makes it much more difficult to be an investor. The daily NOISE is deafening.
I also consider this very good news today. Treasury yields are steady even as weak jobless claims raise stakes for Friday’s jobs report https://www.cnbc.com/2025/05/01/tre...ower-growth-and-mixed-inflation-readings.html At the moment the Ten Year is at......4.202%....up a bit from earlier.
Ok everyone......MAKE ME SOME MONEY. I am off to my wife's cataract surgery. Have at it........post whatever you want (not that anyone needs my permission)......we will all get CLARITY when the present becomes the past.
Fair enough. I would respect your opinion whether we were to agree or not. Obviously, I have posted and discussed the tariff's. My discussion and/or comments about any of it have never been made with the desire to "change" anyone's mind or opinion.
MSFT is having a day!! Good to see them coming around. They had kind of been missing out on the party for a good bit. They are on fire today....in a good way.
NVDA seems to be using their prowess to engage with policy makers. I think this is a good thing for them to offer their "side of the story." Being able to give some insight into what they are doing and what they need to be aware of globally as it relates to chips and AI. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/nvidia-raised-concerns-huaweis-growing-172948546.html
Nor should you agree. I'm just here shouting into the wind as a regular pleb. It's not going to change anything. Even though we do not agree on this issue, you have always been respectful, and to me, that matters way more. It's something that is sorely missing in this country. I think that is by design, but that's another issue for another place.
Road.....yes.....I also consider it talking into the wind on those sorts of topics. Everyone has their personal opinion and I respect that. AND.....I did intend that "clarity" and "surgery" content when I posted it I am siting at the eye doctor's office right now waiting for the surgery. I see from my phone that the only RED stock for me right now is HD. For me MSFT and COST are doing extremely well today. Ok.....you all have the board for the rest of the day. I will probably post something when I get home and see the earnings from AMZN and AAPL. Please continue to.....SHOW ME THE MONEY today.....only 1.5 hours to go.
I guess now that I think about it, I am also shouting to the wind in regard to the tariff talks. I am not changing the course of anything by doing so, but I figured it fit with some of our economic discussion. Obviously, it has caused a bit of a rub for some reason. That was not my intent. I quite possibly have misread the room in doing so. I was not trying to disrupt WXYZ's thread or bring some sort of political discourse to it. My thoughts were directed at the implementation part of the policy. In any case, I will discontinue my part of that discussion for the good of the Long Term Investor thread. I depart with absolutely no hard feelings toward any poster in our thread. Stay the course my friends and continue your long term journey. It WILL be worth it in the end.
I appreciate your input, and I do think it has relevance to the topic of investing. W does not agree with our position, and based on his posting history and commentary trends, it did not come as a surprise to me. Having said that, although I cannot speak for him, I really do not think he is bothered by our posts. I think it might be his posting style and the brevity of his post that might give you that impression. I'd like to think that our posts are evidence that we are commenting on what is going on and our intent is not to threadcrap, but add to the existing discussion. W makes it pretty clear that he values people contributing anything of substance. I could be way off, but I am confident in my impression. Anyhoo, our positions are made, let's see how this all plays out.
