Cruise ship RCL says Zika virus hasn't had much effect on them. Not surprised imo Zika is only an issue to pregnant women. Women of child-bearing age are not a big part of the cruise ships' demographics; they tend to tilt older. Just talking about this here since it was on Fast Money. Zika is in the US though. And wasn't it Ebola in October 2014 that triggered a selloff?
Isn't Zika only in your system for around 3 weeks then it passes? I just heard this from someone. I guess I could have googled instead of posting this, but it's already typed up...lol (edit: looks like it lasts from a few day to just over a week typically). Think I'm jumping into oil tomorrow.
I haven't read much about Zika, but I read something like they don't know how long the virus will stay in the semen and it could still be a threat for men if they want to have a child in the near future, I didn't do any extensive research to confirm whether it is true though. Some male athletes used Zika as a reason (most likely an excuse) for not participating in the upcoming Olympics, so I guess Zika poses some threat to men as well.
Can you please post Next week earnings on this Thursday before the week starts. That is, if it is possible. Thank you

RE: Zika Actually in my googling last night I learned Zika is not only about pregnant women, or fertile individuals...there exists a correlation between Zika and a nervous system disorder similar to GBS. From the CDC website: Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an uncommon sickness of the nervous system in which a person’s own immune system damages the nerve cells, causing muscle weakness, and sometimes, paralysis. In Florida, the % of nervous system disorders in confirmed ZIka infection areas is unusually high compared to areas unaffected by Zika. So I think not all is known about this virus yet. Who knows if it just goes to sleep for a few years then comes roaring back worse. As a human race we're really up against the ropes right now with all this stuff going on: viruses, terrorism, global warming, economic pain...etc: http://climate.nasa.gov/vital-signs/sea-level/ "but scientists are concerned that the massive West Antarctic Ice Sheet, which holds about 11 feet of potential sea level rise, has reached a tipping point and will collapse. Another 23 feet of equivalent sea level is stored as ice in Greenland, and it is melting at an increasing rate."
Surprised nobody in here is talking about those FIT earnings. If I heard it correctly on CNBC this morning - this is a company that has had a history of perpetually guiding down after earnings - but not this time. Look at that expected increase in EPS into Q3 and Q4! 37% of the float was short prior to today ..... they will be covering in droves. https://www.earningswhispers.com/epsdetails/fit Fitbit (FIT) reported 2nd Quarter June 2016 earnings of $0.12 per share on revenue of $586.5 million. The consensus earnings estimate was $0.11 per share on revenue of $580.2 million. The Earnings Whisper number was $0.15 per share. Revenue grew 46.5% on a year-over-year basis. The company said it expects third quarter non-GAAP earnings of $0.17 to $0.19 per share on revenue of $490.0 million to $510.0 million. The current consensus earnings estimate is $0.18 per share on revenue of $510.7 million for the quarter ending September 30, 2016. The company also said it continues to expect 2016 earnings of $1.12 to $1.24 per share on revenue of $2.50 billion to $2.60 billion. The current consensus earnings estimate is $1.17 per share on revenue of $2.57 billion for the year ending December 31, 2016.
Thx for the heads up on FIT. I don't know. It already popped and I'm out. Hard to get into a stock that sells, imo, what I would consider cosmetic devices. I read the average fitbit owner stops using them after a few months. I also don't even wear a watch - I don't understand the point. There are clocks everywhere! If I want to know if I'm fit, I just look in a mirror. What was the reasoning behind future upgraded earnings? Was there an explanation in the call?
Commodities across the board are pumping up. Oil, Corn, Wheat, ETFs. jo and soyb lagging but look like they're bottoming.

I can't believe watches made a comeback either, since to me they just cause tan lines on your arm. As for a point behind a device that measures your "productivity" (in a sense), do not discount gamification. When something can be measured and put up on leaderboards, there are humans that will really get into it. I've not really said anything about FitBit itself lol.
Haven't listened to it. Not sure it even matters though. It's a huge change in sentiment compared to previous earnings reports. Beyond that - it fits the technical setups that I like and the story they're telling with their guidance fits what I'm seeing. Remember this company isn't just a watch maker - they're a data collector for the healthcare industry.
Time Warner Deal Gives Hulu a Much-Needed $580 Million Lift http://www.nytimes.com Time Warner’s willingness to serve as sous-chef in Hulu’s crowded kitchen could keep the broth from spoiling. Hulu, the digital TV service, will get $580 million from Time Warner, the American media conglomerate, and fresh programs from its TNT and CNN networks. Notably, however, Time Warner will hold a smaller stake in Hulu than other major investors and refrain from joining a board already crowded by rivals like Walt Disney, 21st Century Fox and Comcast. Hulu has charted a rocky path since it was started in 2007. Owners clashed over competing ideas and agendas, including trying to protect lucrative fees collected by cable operators to carry their networks. Twice, the service has been put up for sale. A private equity backer sold out. Comcast’s involvement was hamstrung by regulators as part of its acquisition of NBC Universal. Along the way, Hulu lost its highly regarded chief executive.
