I have NEVER done tax loss harvesting. In fact before the last 10-15 years....this was not a thing that was ever mentioned. AND....no....you dont have to tax loss harvest at year end......if something is not working out simply sell it....ANY TIME IN THE YEAR.....and get the money into something productive....a lateral move. There is NOTHING special about year end.....you can take the loss for anything you sell anytime in the year. The other year end event.......for the professionals......WINDOW DRESSING. As expected....earnings are EPIC so far. We are seeing about 85% of all the SP500 reports for the 3rd quarter beating profit predictions. The wave of RED continues in the big averages. Hopefully....a pause that refreshes. The markets are drifting with most of the BIG TECH earnings a little bit into the future.
I see the....hand of AI...behind this move. META is already cutting human workers in AI since....AI ITSELF....can do the work. I dont think I would want to be a programmer or other front line tech worker over the next ten years. Perhaps they can get jobs....building pipelines. We have made a lot of progress in the housing markets with mortgage rates and consumers adapting to....NORMAL.....rates. this is a good indicator.....and will pick up steam as rates drop over the next year. It is time to wind up all the remaining tariff and trade issues. In hindsight....MOST...of the negativity and fear-mongering BS did not come true. AND....we are in a much better trade position right now than a year ago. Long term investors that did nothing and just....carried on as usual.....are doing just fine.
PLTR is hammering me today...down by (-4.3%). NVDA, AAPL, and AMZN also RED. The rest of my stocks are GREEN. Not much of a day for me today...so far.
At this point...there is no reason to waste any more time on the short term markets. A waste of time today. So I will go and hide out in the long term.......and....IGNORE IT ALL.
Ouch!...don't look now, at -%6.40%. Of course, what does that mean with this stock? I don't follow it closely, but there have been times where it is like that and then goes the opposite direction just as quickly. Definitely a wild ride in many ways for those that have it. To me, it seems like one of those that can just go bonkers either way.
That would be nice in many ways. Although, I figure it will be a part of this administration's toolbox for the remainder. I agree we need to "close up" some of these and move on.
Looks like it. However, it did "improve" some from where it was earlier it appears. A small victory...sort of.
I ended the day today with a big....medium....loss in my eight stocks. I also got beat by the SP500 by....0.11%. I had three stocks up today....COST, MSFT, and GOOGL.
Well we were eating lunch out today and my phone rang. It was the owner of one of the three paintings that we are going to..... "try".... to acquire over the next year or so. I did not think I would hear from him for another 2-3 months. He had decided to sell the painting....so we came to agreement on the price and it was a done deal. As soon as I got home I sold a....."chunk".....less than $20,000..... of my BIG Nvidia holding and transferred the funds to Schwab checking. We than jumped in the car drove about 100 miles and made the purchase. It is now hanging on the wall. So one down and two to go. Of the two remaining paintings that we are going to try to buy......one will not be ready for purchase till mid to late next year....it is a commission....and I know the price on it. The other one....is very iffy whether we will get it or not....since it will be an auction item and there will be many bidders after it. I do have a limit on what I am willing to bid. It will be the most expensive of the three paintings....by far. I am now backing off a bit on selling only NVDA for these purchases. I will probably sell......"some"....Nvidia and some SP500 Index....if we get the painting that will come up at auction. As to the painting that will be ready mid to late 2026....I will see how I am feeling about Nvidia at that time and decide whether or not to take some profits and put the money into art. As for NVDA now....it remains the largest......... and.....most TOTALLY DOMINANT stock holding..... in my portfolio.
