I used to spend a good amount of time in Ballard...back in the old days. The "Tractor Tavern" and the old "Salmon Bay Eagles".

I also was known...... "once in a while".....to frequent "The Comet" as well as "Beth's Cafe".....as well as various bars and places in Fremont and the UT area and Pioneer Square..... "Larry's" and the "New Orleans".

I am talking about 1972 to1981 era. As to Pioneer Square....more like about 1990 to 2000.

You familiar with most of these names....oldmanram? The "old days" of Seattle.

You familiar with "English Hill" area in Woodinville/Redmond....oldmanram? We ended up there for about 10 years before returning to Texas. One of my kids graduated from Inglemoor. I am trying to think of other things or places we might have in common. We used to like the old burger place in Bothell....."The Ranch".

It is amazing when you look back at some of the charts in this article. I read this one a day or two ago myself. Really interesting stuff and how things have moved over many years.

Sort of related to this. I have mentioned holding international a few times myself. I currently hold a bit in my plan, but it is in a broad index.

As I was looking at it back sometime ago, I noticed something that might interest some of you guys that are big chip holders. A company called ASML out of Veldhoven, Netherlands. I did not realize how significant they were to the chip industry. I learned something...lol. Crazy to think about how one company is the life of all of these other things.
    https://www.asml.com/en

I am not posting to "push" the company or anything of the sort. I just thought it was interesting and thought some of our chip investors might also find them interesting. Maybe you guys already knew about their connection to it. I did not and probably wouldn't have known other than they are in the index fund I hold.

NOTE: My Bookmark for this forum was made back in 2024, and took me to this page above in history.

Here is a blast from the past: ZUKO I used to feel the same way, however as I have aged lets say that I can now more fully appreciate some of the nicer things in life. AND one of them right now happens to be "Creme Brulee or however you spell it. DId you know that it is now available at COSTCO ??? BUT you have to learn how to melt the sugar on top yourself, something for the PYROMANIAC in all of us to enjoy ! :)

Buy a lottery ticket, your odds are better.:D

Just funning....he has done well and hate to see a young man go out anytime, but at this time and juncture....even worse.

Still amazing to think the other guy (Brady) has 7 rings....7. It is nuts when you think about how difficult and improbable that is. Maybe we will see that record topped at some point....maybe.

“New Orleans Restaurant & Bar “ [IMG]

My wife went to Bothell, and yes I remember the Ranch / good burgers and fries and milkshakes !!

Yes, I remember most of them, The Tractor, Eagles, Beth's Cafe (great omelets / and open late !!) Larry's ???? The New Orleans
And lets not forget The Aquarius Tavern / Parker's Ballroom , where I learned how to mix sound from Kevin Sutherland (I would get it close, then he would come in and tweak the sliders perfectly/ I still remember Boxes 80 and 81/ our HUGE rolling boxes with "THE BOARD" and ALL the snake and cords / NEVER LET THEM OUT OF YOUR SIGHT or YOUR FIRED)[IMG][IMG]
, had lots of good bands go through there , Edgar winter, the one, the only, Stephen Ray Vaughan, (say Hi to the Club 27's up there Stevie) Heart ,Elvin Bishop, Tower of Power, lots of Good Old Southern Fried Rock group's , The Allman Brothers Band, The Marshall Tucker Band, .38 Special, Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, and The Outlaws just to name a few.

And I'm not sure how notorious you were BUT , I did end up at HATTIES HAT in Ballard at 6am a couple of times, just to "straighten out"

Been Nice Reminiscing, it's good to look back on our lives and acknowledge the good and a little bad we did. Today I'm a lot more boring than I used to be. Good thing too. Well gotta go work on that "Honey Do List" so I get a good hot dinner tonight :)

Larry's was across the street from the New Orleans......in the 1990's the number one Blues club in Pioneer Square. Ah yes....Parkers. Also the Spanish Castle in Federal Way and the Evergreen Ballroom down toward Lacey.

So you were a Sound-Man.....oldmanram. I knew there was something I liked about you.

I thought of one that is a blast from the past, Do you remeber the Lake Hills Roller Rink ?
    Excerpt from history link.com

Around 1970 the rink briefly rebranded its dance-concert business as the Lake Hills Ballroom, and the good times continued. New local bands of all musical stripes -- soul, funk, and hard rock -- were emerging and getting opportunities to perform there. Among them were Acapulco Gold, Aries, Barney Armstrong's Machine, Bighorn, Child, Chinook, Randy Hansen, Kidd Afrika, Onyx, Shyanne, Storm, and Superband. In addition, there came along a new set of bands that proved to be the vanguard of a style that would become known as heavy metal, including Rail & Company, Juggernaut, Mantis, Sorcerer's Apprentice, TKO, and White Heart. The latter band amended its name to Heart, and it was while the group played Lake Hills that a young Ann Wilson (b. 1950) saw them, and soon joined up as singer ... and the rest is history.

For Liz Monta, one particular night at the rink was understandably memorable:

"On September 12, of either 1970 or 1971 (can't be sure which year), when Buddy Miles Express played Lake Hills, Carlos Santana called me in the ticket office to ask if he and his group could come in and see Buddy. I said 'Sure.' After Santana arrived, they went up on stage and jammed with Buddy's group" ("Lake Hills Roller Rink," p. 2).

The economic news today......not that it matters or means anything since inflation of 2.8% is......TOTALLY NORMAL......even though people have been propagandized to think it is high.

US core PCE inflation rises to 2.8% in November as expected

    https://www.fxstreet.com/news/us-core-pce-inflation-rises-to-28-in-november-as-expected-202601221508

"Annual inflation in the United States, as measured by the change in the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index, rose to 2.8% in November from 2.7% in October, the US Bureau of Economic Analysis reported on Thursday. On a monthly basis, the PCE Price Index rose by 0.2%.

The core PCE Price Index, the Federal Reserve's (Fed) preferred gauge of inflation, rose by 2.8% in November, following the 2.7% increase recorded in October and matching the market expectation."

YES.....more good news. The vast majority of news that is relevant to investors continues to be POSITIVE....even if the market continues to be....... afraid of its own shadow.....and.....self-loathing.

The other good news....personal income up by....0.3%. The increase in personal income continues....even though it is IGNORED.

As I often talk about on here....unless you are an AI TRADING PLATFORM....trading news headlines and content by the micro-second......keep POLITICS out of your investing.

    Let’s Talk About Politics

    https://www.carsongroup.com/insights/blog/lets-talk-about-politics/

"Similar to beer before liquor, politics and investing don’t mix. We’ve shared the chart below for years now and it is important to remember that stocks have bull markets and bear markets under both parties."

Bottom line....politics is POISON to investing. You will end up ignoring fundamental business and focusing on drama, turmoil, and fear.
