Headline News in the U.K this morning.... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c75kp1y43lgo This is what I'm up against
YOU have broken through to the other side.....LORI. You know the truth. Yet it is probably......YOU...... that people think is crazy to do what you do. A very strange situation to be in....especially when your account is telling you the truth. It takes real GUTS and NERVE to do something contrary to what your home culture thinks or believes. YOU must be a very STRONG person to go against the cultural peer pressure that you face regarding investing.
YES they do....they know safety and quality when it counts.....for THEIR own money. Global Treasury Demand Isn’t Letting Up Foreigners keep buying US Treasurys. https://www.fisherinvestments.com/e...entary/global-treasury-demand-isnt-letting-up
This is a nice little article with much discussion about PORTFOLIO CONSTRUCTION. A CRITICAL and little mentioned topic in investing. As investors we tend to think in terms of individual holdings....BUT....I would say it is MUCH MORE important to focus on your portfolio as an interconnected whole. Especially as a LONG TERM INVESTOR. That is why I start out every one of the portfolios that I manage with half the funds in a simple SP500 ETF. I am posting this for discussion.....not....as a guide to a specific portfolio model. Every investor will be different. As most on here know I post my PORTFOLIO MODEL every so often. How to Build a Portfolio: What to Own, What to Skip, and Why The difference between a well-built portfolio and a risky one often comes down to a few key choices. https://www.morningstar.com/personal-finance/how-build-portfolio-what-own-what-skip-why
A nice but mixed market right now. S&P 500 rises as Intel soars, investors bet on Iran talks restarting https://www.cnbc.com/2026/04/23/stock-market-today-live-updates.html
My stocks are mixed but probably positive....although I have not looked at my account. Today is very much up in the air.....as to how we will close. WHATEVER.
I will miss much of the day again today....YEA. I have an Echo-cardiogram appointment mid day and will be leaving about 10:00. My STRESS TEST came back with.....NO ISSUES. I also had a CT scan of lungs.......NO...... lung issues. I dont expect the ECHO to show anything abnormal....but......I dont mind this preventative work-up. At my age it will at least establish a baseline for any necessary future tests.
Yes Lori, it appears the noise will travel far and wide. I am often amused by all sorts of predictions. Predictions from policy makers, financial pundits, and even investors. I have yet to meet anyone who has an accurate crystal ball. We usually see a bit of this two fold. When markets are at ATH's it is overbought and at a premium. When it is in the gutter it is oversold. The market spends a great part of its life at or setting new ATH's pretty regularly. That is the fun part. The market also experiences some white knuckle rides. There are just dumbfounded days, corrections, and our least favorite....bear markets. All of these things pay us a visit numerous times throughout our investing journey. It is just part of it. Sometimes it is related to dumb economic policy or other reasons, but many times it is something that nobody seen coming. Oh sure, everybody comes out of the woodwork in hindsight and claims "anyone" should have seen it coming. They didn't know then and they do not know for certain now. The best an investor can do is develop a plan that matches their own personal situation. Know thyself. The risk tolerance, the financial goals and plans all related to each one's specific circumstances. If one takes care of these things and manages it in a way that allows long-term staying power, the rest is just noise.
LOTS of positive TECH COMPANY news today....but nothing that I choose to post. ALL the AI and other TECH negativity is just DELUSIONAL. In fact....in general there is basically NOTHING more for me to post right now. So I will sign off early for my Dr appointment.
I am always amused when people of power even talk about the market. Why? Stay in your lane... unless you have a vested interest and are trying to sway the market of course
You can not stop progress or a run away train. 20,000 job cuts at Meta, Microsoft raise concern that AI-driven labor crisis is here https://www.cnbc.com/2026/04/24/20k...rosoft-raise-concern-of-ai-labor-crisis-.html Perhaps all these programmers that lose their jobs to AI....can be retrained to build pipelines.
Looks like we will soon have a new FED CHAIR. DOJ drops criminal probe of Fed Chair Powell, removes hurdle for Warsh confirmation https://www.cnbc.com/2026/04/24/fed-powell-doj-warsh-trump.html
You cannot stop time..... Let´s burn steam engine cause it'll ruin horses salesman business... Human mind (and beahiviour) keeps the same, all those years.
As Ice Cube knows 'today was a good day". Looks like NVDA has come to its senses, AMD has exploded upwards! Who knows what PLTR is doing. Any day we are making a little bit of scratch is a good one. I love how we started the day with @Lori Myers post about how the wheels are going to fall off and end the day with some tasty tech gains. May be able to spring for the all beef hot dogs tonight and possibly name brand condiments, hell maybe even get real buns instead of folded bread. Sometimes you have to reward yourself.
AMD is definitely looking good lately. I might have to do some more research to see if the time is right to invest in them finally.
