My expectations of ER are modest. But, a beat + good news like address OTT cable/Iger extends/buyback increase..=slow climb to 106-7.
I like the company given its gross value, but of course, I am not too fond of this type of practice. The worst part is there looking this expand the program. But meh, who cares. Its all good fun, right? Now Disney Can Track Your Every Move with NSA-Style Wristbands Families planning trips to one of Disney’s theme parks can now get waterproof rubber wristbands embedded with computer chips in lieu of paper tickets. When scanned, the bands can act as a park entry ticket, a FastPass, a hotel room key and a credit card. The “Magic Bands” — which are currently optional — are part of a new MyMagic+ “vacation management system” that can track guests as they move throughout the park. http://entertainment.time.com/2014/01/02/disney-nsa-style-magic-bands-theme-park/
Looking to add on a trade above $99 or down between $86 - $94 into 2017. There is a lot of money parked here. Just wait until DIS begins to adopt and incorporate augment reality into theme parks.
Overall it was a good quarter. I'll need to read the earnings transcript tomorrow to get more color. Clearly the movie, or studio entertainment, segment alongside with the company's attempt to revamp its ESPN business unit, through the acquisition of BAMtech, will be what drives revenue in future quarters. Is it enough to merit the 16X multiple? I think so. Parks and Resorts may remain under duress until the whole Zika outbreak becomes passé with the media and some of the furor surrounding the prospects of China Wanda city abate. Personally, I don't see how this theme park competes directly with Disney but I am no expert. Will it take marketshare away from the new Shanghai Theme Park? Of course. But it will not change of entertainment that Disney holds. To me DIS is a 2017 story. But knowing the market, they'll move the stock before I get the chance to add. A dividend increase of 2.5% would be nice but doubtful. $96.40 is a key support line. $93.40 and $86 follow. I would only add on a trade down to $86 or on a trade above $99. ----------------- Shares of Walt Disney Co. (DIS) were down in after-hours trading on Tuesday despite reporting better-than-expected earnings and revenue for the 2016 third quarter. After the market close, the Burbank, CA-based entertainment giant reported adjusted earnings of $1.62 per share, beating analysts' estimated $1.61 per share. Revenue increased 9% year-over-year to $14.28 billion in the most recent period, topping analysts' projected $14.15 billion. By segment, revenue grew 2% to $5.91 billion in Media Networks, rose 6% to $4.38 billion in Parks and Resorts and surged 40% to $2.85 billion in Studio Entertainment. But sales fell 1% to $1.15 billion in Disney's Interactive Media unit.
Beat earnings but still down almost 2%. I didn't really see any negative news to go along with the report, but I haven't looked at it in detail. Weird move.
I haven't read the ER either but I have seen this many times over. Just recently did this with MPEL disregarding the guidance. So it goes drops on the ER only to go up later and still climbing. Same thing with VLY but some short interest analyst give a down grade. DIS will be back, you can't beat the mouse.
Let's not forget, Disney Shanghai brings $DIS a whole new level of Media entry and further potential into China
The last time I read, China is supposed to be lessening the Visa restrictions that will give visitation strength to Disney. Not sure how the families do it in China but they can take the kids to Disney and then hop over to Macau and do some gambling that does also offer entertainment for the kiddies.
Keep this trendline in mind the coming days. Could breakout if Daily RSI holds over 50 and gets over VP POC.
I don't know when or how much, but Disney makes most sense. ESPN has been driving mobile sports broadcasts as a main priority.
Both some @92.46 premarket I think majority of "bad" news are priced in (except for a systematic fed risk). People are forgeting Disney is not just ESPN. Also, I hope and dont think they will throw billions to twitter or netflix. Instead, it will be great if they end up using extra cash to increase dividend or buyback their own shares. That way we can see a nice rally
