OK....I too am now considering abandoning this site. I will make a decision some time over the next few days. What does anyone else say? Alternative sites? If I do leave I will put up a post with the site that I choose to move to.....or....if I just hang it up, I will post that also. I want to know what anyone else thinks?
Very sad to hear this news, I don’t hardly contribute at all so maybe I’m partly at fault. However I check in many times a day to read up on what’s being posted to learn and dig into things mentioned. I have made several good bets that ultimately tract back to this site. i will be watching to hopefully join up with you all wherever else you guys go.
Hey Smokie, I am so sad to hear of this decision. If you are worried about your online security, I understand, but there are easy ways to mitigate any potential trouble. If that is not it, I won't pry. As I have said before, I will go where you guys go. I suspect that if W moved to Big Bear's site, we would all naturally migrate there, since he is the heartbeat of this site anyway. Your call, W. And Big Bear, since this place is apparently run by the inmates, I am not sure who would care if you posted your site here. You have said you reached out to see if there could be more active administration, and it seems as if that is not in the cards. I like this place a lot, but if there is not active membership and new people/perspectives speaking up, it is on borrowed time. I say post the link. Who's going to punish you?
RG, LORI, Strathmore, TireSmoke, Oldmanram, TomB16, RTN, blake,......ALL others.......please let me know when or if you get registered at the other site. Rather than lose Smokie I think we will be moving to the bigbear site. That site is....stocksforums.com. NOTICE....THAT THERE IS AN...."s" at the end of stocks and forums. I find that other site a little messy and confusing....but we will get used to it. Perhaps bigbear can pin the LONG TERM INVESTOR thread right at the top of the site
I will probably take my time to move over....to try to capture everyone on here and let them know about the move. One thing....we will lose any LURKERS....since people will have to be registered to see the bigbear site.
Okay, I guess we are switching over. End of an era I suppose. @bigbear0083 if you see this, is there any possibility to import this entire thread to your site for posterity? I suppose there is no way to automatically add back who made what posts since they almost all are "made" by your bot as someone posts here. Not sure if you see this. Maybe I will try to contact you at your site sometime soon.
I like this little article. Investing in Momentum https://awealthofcommonsense.com/2026/07/investing-in-momentum/ There appears to be MUCH momentum investing going on now. The BIG problem.....market timing is inherent in momentum investing and is often impossible.
TO REPEAT: RG, LORI, Strathmore, TireSmoke, Oldmanram, TomB16, RTN, blake,......ALL others.......please let me know when or if you get registered at the other site. Rather than lose Smokie I think we will be moving to the bigbear site. That site is....stocksforums.com. NOTICE....THAT THERE IS AN...."s" at the end of stocks and forums. I find that other site a little messy and confusing....but we will get used to it. Perhaps bigbear can pin the LONG TERM INVESTOR thread right at the top of the site The one good thing about this......."POTENTIAL"......move that I am STILL considering.....new people will be able to sign up and post. The BAD NEWS......people that are not signed up or signed in....... can NOT read the thread......so how will anyone know about it or find it?
I won't be moving to, or registering for, the other site. Please accept my best wishes in investing and life. W, it's clear you will continue to do well. I respect your approach and how you give back. For what little it's worth, I've been trying to give back in my own way. After a 4 month sabbatical, I decided to return and focus on leaving a perspective that might align with someone sufficiently to help them. I'm sure you folks noticed my post resurrection perspective has been quite specific. About 18 months ago, I met some people I have a lot more in common with. They haven't helped me much and I doubt I've helped them but I like hanging out there. Investing is an isolating pursuit. To be direct, hanging out in a group is probably more detrimental than helpful. It can be, with the right people, enjoyable. And, that's worth a lot. Thank you, W, and thank you to this group. You all have my best wishes.
yes I did notice your posts lately TOM. I the other site you are at an investing site? Is it open for lurkers that are not registered to be able to see content? Is it a site for us to consider? if so what is the name?
I've been spending time on Lemmy. If you aren't familiar, it's like Reddit but is distributed and they don't delete all of your posts for arbitrary reasons. I first went to Lemmy to join an AI developer group. It was a nice group and a few of us started chatting about the AI market, world restructuring, etc. These folks could care less about oil, real estate, financial companies, or even much about investing. They care exclusively about technology. Nerds; like me. I'm not someone who cares about the daily tick, news, etc. I'm fortunate to be sufficiently comfortable to not have to worry too much. As long as I don't gamble my nest egg away, I should be OK.
No disrespect BIGBEAR....but I want to PAUSE for a moment. I want to see what EVERYONE thinks before we take a leap. We are ALL part of this group and in this together. What are ANYONE's thoughts about changing boards? Does everyone wish to simply stay here or move? if we do move.....who has any thoughts or ideas on a new site? I f we move I would like to be on a site that has maximum members and good potential for us to add new posters and grow. RG, LORI, Strathmore, TireSmoke, Oldmanram, TomB16, RTN, blake,......ALL others.....what do you think? What do you say? Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas....do we go....do we stay.....and where do we go if we go? I dont want to decide for everyone....we ALL need to have a voice. I consider BOGLEHEADS......as the largest investment site. BUT....they are of course oriented toward Vanguard and Bogle and Index investing. Long ago I did start a LONG TERM INVESTING thread there for a very short time. Please......any ideas or thoughts?
Alright, if I am being honest, I have 2 worries about Big Bear's site: 1. It is slooooooow. Is the password protected site also being bombed with nonsense traffic? 2. It is a bit.... busy, formatting wise. I vastly prefer the simplicity of this site. The top half of each page just gets in the way of the thread content. I do not want to come off as a jerk, but any chance that would simplify the site would be very much appreciated. @bigbear0083 You deleted your last two comments. Did you get a talking to? Second thoughts? We're kind of in limbo here. My sincere position is I will go where W goes. If he stays here, it will just be us until this site winds down I suppose. If he goes elsewhere, I will follow. I have not found another site that fills this niche of being a forum format that talks rationally about long term investing with constant discussion thrown in. It's kind of insane that this is the case, but here we are. Smokie is gone, so it would be nice to either convince him to come back or go where he is comfortable posting. My 2 pennies.
Hi guys, I'm also a member of Nexus.Fi forum, ex. futures.io forum. Maybe we could create a thread and continue there. It's not mandatory to buy an elite membership to post on Nexus.Fi forum.
I do not know of many other sites. When I looked long ago many just looked like busy spam type sites and this one seemed less and more basic I suppose so I settled into watching some here. The first person I really kept an eye on for his opinion was TipTop. Man if I held the AMD I bought at $6 a share from way back then til now. Lol. I am on bogleheads but like W mentioned I don’t think this group/thread would survive there. They are very strict and set in the Bogle ways. I’ve signed up on big bears site and browsed a bit but I feel kind of like RTN from first glance (I’ve not spent much time there yet) but it seems very “casinoie” if that’s even a word, and busy/complex but it may just take some getting used to.
Thanks everyone....so far. I guess for now I will just post here for a while till here is more input from our few posters.
