Should you buy Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD) stock ahead of Q4 earnings? http://tinyurl.com/zrkhch8
Intel Results Bode Well for ON, Nvidia, AMD, Says Pacific Crest Intel‘s (INTC) Q4 results reported yesterday were boosted by less-bad personal computer trends, which bodes well for ON Semiconductor (ON), Nvidia (NVDA), and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), among others, writes Pacific Crest’s John Vinh this morning. The results are good news both for companies riding Intel’s “Skylake” PC platform, such as ON, he believes, and also for GPU sales by Nvidia and AMD: Client Computing Group (CCG) was up +3% q/q and +4% y/y to $9.1 billion, above our estimate of $8.75 billion, driven by healthy demand in the PC supply chain and strong product mix due to segmentation strategies and strength in gaming and high-end PCs. Healthy demand in the PC supply chain is positive for ON, MRVL, NVDA, AMD, MU, STX, WDC and SYNA. We would be opportunistic buyers of ON tomorrow as higher dollar content ($0.50 to $1.50) and share gains (33% to 50%) on Intel’s Skylake platform should drive strong computing segment sales (12% of sales) results for Q4. Strength in gaming and high-end PCs is positive for AMD and NVDA and could allay our ongoing concerns regarding excess high-end GPU inventory at desktop graphics card manufacturers. http://blogs.barrons.com/techtrader...says-pacific-crest/?mod=yahoobarrons&ru=yahoo
Thanks Leon for the take from Cramer. I watched the taped episode and he is quite adamant that the numbers will be good. Earlier in the year Lisa Su said they would be profitable by years end. Sell or Hold before the ER? I know many of you are up on your investment on AMD. The chart has turned bullish from the drop the short sellers created. The RSI is now 54 which is good it is not overbought going into earnings. The 50Day is high above the 200DAY as the price is 51 cents above the 50Day. Why was the ER moved from the 17th to the 31st? It is my guess that they have an announcement to make that could't happen on the 17th. There are lot's of rumors floating around regarding a contract with INTC. The biggest would be the 1.5 Billion dollar contract that NVDA has that expires on March 17th. Even if they get it I am not so sure they could announce it this soon. Probably the number one rumor is AMD is reportedly licensing its Radeon graphics processing unit for use in Intel's next generation of CPUs. On a side note: Last November, Google partnered with Intel to challenge Amazon's dominance in cloud services. In case you didn't know AMD clinched a deal with Google to supply its FirePro S9300 x2 GPU in the their cloud platform. Now working with GOOGLE and BABA, I expect their services to expand to other companies if it hasn't already. A trader should not trade on rumors but you can connect the dots for your answer.
Lot of longs will sell before earing fearing a drop. The markets are high and many are screaming correction coming. Fear/Greed drives.
$AMD Buying some "Mad Max" Feb 3rd $8 strike Puts in AMD to insure my position before earnings. Willing to blow .02 to rest easy.

I have been sitting on shares of this stock since when you could buy it at 3.75 a share.. I already have a heck of a profit locked in.. Even it if would drop some I would still profit... I expect tomorrow there will be a sell off due to people being jittery.... I Have been in to tech for over 3 generations, And I know some of the AMD techs, and I know what is coming down the pipe over the next few years... It has been a new ball game since Lisa took over... And its has taken her some time to fix what her predecessors messed up.. We are just seeing the beginning of what is to come with AMD in the next few years.. That is why I am long on AMD.. Its the one stock I just sit on....
