25 year old guy, active duty army looking to break in to the stock market just in time for me to get out. Here to learn.
Welcome Shirey. Thanks for your service. There is a lot of education material here on the boards and forums for you to ask questions. Lots of people willing to help and we also welcome your input once you get rolling.
Welcome to the forums, and thank you for your service! Hope to see you around more asking questions and posting any thoughts you have on the market!
This is the thread I direct people to from out of this site, or new people to the site: https://stockaholics.net/threads/teach-me-technical-analysis.125/
Ok, I'm still trying to get the hang of the verbiage in stocks. Now "ask" is what someone is willing to sell a stock for and "bid" is the price someone is willingly to pay for a stock?
That is correct. Then it takes either the buyer to move up to the ask or the seller to move down to the bid. That activity over and over during the day determines the direction of the stock for that day. If the bidders blink then the stock goes up. If the sellers blink the stock drops down.
Ok I ask this as I've seen one of my stocks have a "ask" price at $2.00 and a bid at .50. What can I make of this wide spread?
Run away! That is probably because of an illiquid market, that is, not enough buyers and sellers to give you the best prices. Also, please start a new thread for this stuff. This is Shireys welcome thread, the title does not help attract people who may want to answer your questions!
