Not real sure how many of you will be tuning in to catch the World Cup this year. I'm not a very avid fan myself, but I'll watch a couple of matches. Don't really have much of a rooting interest as team USA is not in it this year.

    Predictions anyone?

Who do y'all got getting to the final match and ultimately winning it all?

I'll say either Brazil or Germany. Would like to see Portugal in there. Shout out to ya @rg7803 if you're out there reading this! ;)

No idea who is the favorite this year.

Who won the last WC? Think it was Germany right?

Anyway, hoping for some great matches.

Most everyone is going with Brazil and Germany.

I have France winning it. They have the most talented pool of players -- Mbappe, Dembele, Pogba, umtiti, Griezmann, Giroud, etc. They lack experience but if they are able to play not so much with their heads but the game itself, they`ll do well.

I am guessing Spain vs France in the Finals and Spain winning it all :D I am kinda rooting for Belgium since they haven't won the World Cup yet and they have a lot of talents up front this year. Wouldn't mind to see Argentina winning the World Cup too since I kinda want to see Messi to win one :D

Yes Cy Germany was the winner 4 years ago ;) I am not sure if Portugal is good enough this year but Ronaldo winning the World Cup would be a nice story :D

It would be nice if Argentina won that way Messi is revered as the greatest player in history. They actually have a shot if they finish first in their group. They would play whoever finishes second in Group C, which would likely be Peru or Denmark.

Spain doesnt have as much depth as they did 8 years ago. The 2010 World Cup team of the was perhaps the best assembled teams in recent history.

I am rooting for Iceland. It’s a long shot but it’s their first World Cup appearance and they have a pretty cool Viking chant. Small following but their presence is felt everywhere.

heh never knew there was a market related stat for the world cup ... thought it was amusing enough that i would share it in here :p

World Cup Preview: Stocks Rooting For Europe?

The 2018 FIFA World Cup™ kicks off tomorrow, as 32 countries vie for one of the greatest trophys in the world of sports. The tournament has taken place every four years since 1930 (excluding World War II), making this the 21st World Cup.

“Although in no way, shape, or form do we support investing based on potential World Cup winners, wouldn’t you know it that the S&P 500 Index has done quite well when a European country came out on top? In fact, only European and South American countries have ever won a World Cup, with the S&P 500 up 8.6% for the year on average when Europe has won, versus only 1.1% for South America,” explained LPL Research Senior Market Strategist Ryan Detrick.

Here are some (nonfinacial) takeaways to help you win at World Cup trivia:
    • The World Cup was cancelled in 1942 and 1946 due to World War II.
    • A European country has won the World Cup 11 times, with South American teams making up the other nine.
    • Europe has won the past three World Cups, making this the longest such win streak for any one contenient.
    • Brazil has won the most World Cups, at five. Italy and Germany are tied for second at four.
    • Technicaly, Germany has only one World Cup (2014); West Germany won the other three.
    • The United States missed the World Cup in 2018 for the first time since 1986.
    • Brazil, France, and Germany are the favorites this year.
    • Today it was announced that the U.S., Mexico, and Canada would co-host the 2026 World Cup.
    • No country has repeated as champs since Brazil in 1958 and 1962. Can Germany do it this year?

    Enjoy the World Cup everyone!

Yeah if Argentina finishes first in Group D then they should reach the quarterfinals at least, Group D isn't the easiest group though but they should finish first I guess :D

This Spanish team definitely isn't as good as the one in 2010, they had such an amazing midfield that year  I don't see any team standing out in this World Cup though, Spain is pretty talented and they have arguably the best goalkeeper in the world, maybe David de Gea could help them to steal some wins :D

Oh yeah I definitely will root for Iceland, it is so amazing that such a small country could reach the World Cup and a lot of their players aren't even full time soccer players I heard  Iceland is such a long shot though, I hope they will at least finish second in Group D and get to the Round of 16 though :p Also will root for Egypt, I am a pretty big fan of Salah. If Salah is healthy enough to play then I guess they have a decent chance to get to Round of 16 since Group A is pretty weak :D

I am pretty excited. World Cup is a fun event to watch even if you aren't a big soccer fan in my opinion, it is good to see different cultures and the fans cheering for their countries to win :D Probably won't watch the opening game tomorrow since the time is bad for me, might watch Spain vs Portugal on Friday at 2PM Eastern though if I can't find much to trade in the market :D

Only got 4 correct so I didn’t do that great lol :p If England wins today then it would make it 5 correct still not that great :p A lot of those tournaments favorites haven’t played well, Germany lost to Mexico was a shocker  TBH I have no idea who will win the WC this year based on the performances of the first games :p

Yeah this is crazy. Quite a few of the favorites have struggled. Germany lost, Brazil tied, Spain tied, France almost lost to Australia. The bracket will be weird if Mexico wins that pool.

Haha yeah, if Mexico finishes first in the group then we might actually see Brazil vs Germany in Round of 16, which is pretty much close to a must watch TV for soccer fans :D Right now it is kinda hard to find a clear favorite, I guess we will see which team will peak at the right time.

So far the World Cup has surprised everyone. The tie between Brazil vs. Switzerland; the loss of Germany to. Mexico; the near tie between France and Australia, and the tie between Argentina to Iceland.

As for the last game. Colombia didn't play bad, they just didn't do much to win. They committed a fatal mistake in allowing Japan to set themselves on both ends of the pitch. Japan strength is in its organization. You won't get many balls through if you allow Japan to re-set. Against Poland they have to go on the offensive quick, and against Senegal, they have to play into Senegal's strength and run, otherwise they are out.

If you were to ask me what team played the best after their first game, I would say Mexico. But a single game doesnt say much. We`ll see who is a real contender as teams play their second match.

I still favor France winning the World Cup.

What a bad day, I got all 3 wrong :p I do hope at least one African team advancing to the Round of 16 though, so I will be rooting for Senegal. The other African teams have been disappointing

This is a World Cup of surprises so far for sure  So many underdogs have won this year.

I am rooting for Senegal to get out of the group, like I said I want at l least one African team in Round of 16 :p

I guess I am sticking with Spain for now too :p Has happened pretty often that teams that played great in the group stage didn’t end up being the champions. This year should be interesting, we don’t really have a dominating team like Brazil in 2002 or Spain in 2010 :D
