Thanks for the "bon voyage" and good wishes @bigbear0083 !

Oh, man, you truly are overdue! And early July would be perfect before hurricane season starts messing with Florida.

    Have a GREAT summer!

jeebus, still having issues here with some tickers not pulling in historical prices past 5/17, and i have still yet to find a reliable workaround ... i'm not a big fan of implementing add-on's

going on the google docs support forums has been absolutely zero help...no one has a dang clue what is going on.

looks like all is well again on the historical data front ... but still looking around for a reliable workaround that doesn't require an add-on in google sheets. have still yet to find one.

meanwhile, i just saw this post on the google docs help forums in response to another user who was complaining about this same issue.

seems to answer the question regarding the intermittent missing historical data.

ok, so is it just me or are any of you not able to pull prices for the SPX in google finance anymore?

i used to be able to pull under the ticker .INX but it's returning #N/A for me using the google finance "price" formula. da fuq?

interestingly enough, i noticed it was no longer showing up on the google finance main page as of this morning.

i'm hoping that this is just some sort of glitch on their end that will get corrected soon, or maybe it's now under a new ticker that i'm not aware of?

can anyone confirm? thx in advance!

^^ hah! well looks like this may have been nixed (or at least according to some on their support forums) which if indeed is true, is probably the beginning of the end for google finance as we know it... sad.

miss the old google finance :(

for the moment it doesn't actually appear to have spread into the individual stock tickers (yet!) but i suspect that may very well come to fruition at some point in the future. i certainly hope not! but, truthfully nothing would surprise me at this point with google finance...sadly, they have been quietly making changes and removing things under the hood the past year now.

at any point our spreadsheets for the competitions could indeed stop working.

as for if i'm able to pull live prices from another source. there is actually another data feed that i can use, in fact i gave it a test run a few months back if you might recall. it was called "iextrading". only drawback to using that source is that the prices are not live, and they don't auto update if you have the spreadsheet opened throughout the day. this one requires a "page refresh" to get the latest prices. that is a big time pain in the ass if you ask me.

i guess we'll just have to play this by ear and see what transpires in the days/weeks/months to come.

i'd really hate it if we had to close down the competitions for good. i'm going to try spending some time perhaps over this coming weekend to dig deeper into looking for other data feeds and see if there is anything that might work with google sheets, even if it is really delayed. i'll take whatever we can get to keep our comps up and running for the remainder of this year at the very least.

edit: oh and another thing that would really suck if google finance stopped working is the "historical price data" which i rely heavily on for our members stock picking records spreadsheets. if google ever decided to pull the plug on this (which is very possible) then we lose all member stock picking records.......this includes the stock picking winners lists, as well as the individual records.

the only thing that i could continue running here in the event that google finance went to shit are the market direction polls. at least with that i'm not relying on google finance's data feeds! so, at worst case scenario i could still keep running the market polls indefinitely if nothing else.

i'll try to keep you guys posted on the latest...for now i think we're okay. but, for how long? idk... o_O

whelp, scratch that! looks like it was just a "glitch" thankfully, which seems to have been corrected today.

I think today might be the first time I have ever experienced an issue with Google Finance's live data feed...I usually only had issues with its "historical" data feed in the past, but today (as was noted here) the live data feed was actually down (and still is even now up to this point).

I'm sure this has been brought up to the GF team, and hopefully they'll have it resolved soon enough.

I had to resort to using a delayed data feed from IEX for the contests today. Not the greatest of workaround but better than no data feed at all.

The contests (or the spreadsheets I use for them) rely heavily on this data feed for live pricing. When that goes down, the contests are essentially in the dark like they were for a good part of this morning.

What a terrible timing for the outage too as we're on month end trading today.

I've been out most of the day, but here at end of trading day, GF seems to be up and running again. :)
