Game was phenomenal. Weather was perfect.

Cubs hit a walk-off grand-slam to win the game with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th. Best game I've ever been to

i guess this thread is a due for a bump :p

admittedly i have not been following the baseball season much at all this year, but now that the reg. season has concluded i guess i'll start watching a few of the games.

looks like we've got a few wildcard match-ups this week.

waiting on the cubs/brewers and dodgers/rockies to see who plays who for the nl wildcard.

obviously rooting for the cubs to pull that one out in the nl (its 1-0 brew crew in the 3rd as of time of this post)

over on the al side its yanks and a's (rooting for nyy here for the good 'ole rivalry with boston in the alds)

not too sure who i will want to pull for the entire post-season, maybe the tribe since they haven't won one in forever.

let's get some post-season predictions going up in here.

i'll go with the indians in the american league, but thinking it'll be the bosox that'll ultimately come out of it.

over in the national league, i'll pick whoever comes out of today's cubs/brewers game :p

ws champion? i'll go with the tribe (c'mon indians don't let me down here! :p)

I didn't watch too much baseball either this year. I watched more than a few Red Sox games, and Mookie Betts is really good. Bonus love for him being a bowler.

The Braves have got to love that everyone else has to burn some pitchers just to play Game 163.

Baseball has really changed it seems, the bullpen is essential....but I have no idea who's got a good bullpen.
So I just did a quick look at the Braves and Rockies...Rockies have a pitcher with 8.4 WAR named Freeland? Looks like the Rockies have a better bullpen than the Braves.

For now I'll pick the Rockies out of the NL, and the Red Sox in the AL. Whoever makes it out of the AL will win the WS.

Yeah I don't watch regular season baseball much to be honest, but Playoffs are pretty exciting most of the time :D Good to see the Braves back in the Playoffs, but I guess I will root for the Brewers or the Rockies in the NL and Oakland in the AL. The Rockies and the A's might not even play that much in this Playoffs though, we will see :p

I follow baseball very closely. The Brewers are the hottest team in baseball right now, and have the best bullpen in baseball to answer the questions above.

Their only real weakness is an average starting rotation. Their batters are all on fire right now and they have the hottest player in baseball right now in Yelich as well. Guy has had a historical last month of the season.

Cubs were in a really shitty spot to end the year. Lost both closers, Darvish is still out for the majority of this year, and Bryant has been out most of the year and playing injured the last few weeks. Definitely nowhere near his normal self. They also played something like 45 games in the last 46 days due to makign up rain out games. Everyone is burnt out.

Hopefully they can take care of business tomorrow against what looks to be the Rockies.

The HUGE favorite to win the whole thing is the Red Sox. My money is on the Brewers in the NL. Braves have a nice advantage to even the field a little since they're not as good as any other team in the NL playoffs. They got real lucky that EVERY other team is playing a game 163 and burning thru their pens and using their best starters just to get in, even though all the teams have a better record than them. The MLB playoff system is the worst in all of sports when it comes to competitive integrity. 162 game season (holy shit) capped off by division ties equaling the 2 best NL teams having to play an extra game (good job guys, congratulations being the 2 best, we're going to make you play an extra game to reward you), followed by 1 of those 2 best teams going into a 1-game wildcard to cap off a 163 game regular season... Extremely stupid - and no, I'm not just saying this because I'm a cubs fan. Been saying it for years.

Yeah the schedule has been brutal for the Cubs. Maybe the schedule should slow down in the last 2 weeks, only play every other day. I really like this idea, it could allow wild card contenders to use their ace more often to get into the playoffs; with the drawback that if you make the playoffs then your ace might be burnt out.

Just saw that the Cubs went from best team in the NL to out of the playoffs in 48 hours.

    ^^ well said! 1000% agreed.

funny how they change things up like the "mound visits" in hopes of speeding up the games more (did that really speed things up that noticeably though? maybe just a little -- don't like that each team gets an additional mound visit in extras for each inning) rather than working to change up the playoff system which as you stated perfectly is just extremely dumb.

it's absurd to me to see a team go from best (literally) in their respective league to out of the playoffs. that should not happen.

somethings gotta change imo...and hopefully sooner rather than later. but, i'm not too hopeful it will.

162/3 game season (holy shit is right!) that concludes with a one game wildcard is just insane.

i used to follow baseball very closely when i was younger, but that's been gradually fading over the years due to a lot of the points you made.

Cubs only scored 1 run against the Brewers (best bullpen in the NL), and 1 run in 13 innings against the Rockies. Ran into a couple of buzzsaw bullpens.

Hopefully Oakland will beat the Yankees, I am not a die hard fan of any team so I like to root for smaller markets especially there is no salary cap in baseball :p

I guess the Dodgers are the favorite in the NL, but really hoping either the Brewers or the Rockies will be going to the WS. If Oakland loses then I will root for the Indians in the AL

Well the last 3 conference finals were fun. Wildcard is as far as we made it this year. Oh well, there’s always next year. I think we’re due for our next win in 106 years.

i'm not really following the post-season much here, but grats to the bosox (that was to be expected i guess :p) good calls @T0rm3nted & @anotherdevilsadvocate :D

tonight we'll get the NL team either dodgers or brew crew

    how about some WS predictions?

guess i will have to go with boston here, hard to see them not take it all after the season they've had.

Finished season 80-82. Scioscia fired. Brad Ausmus is new manager. Dartmouth graduate which implies he has the smarts.

Should be a real interesting off-season for the Cubs. Clearly they have work to do to keep up with the powerhouse teams in the AL (Red Sox, Astros)

Cubs putting themselves in a bad situation. Down 2.5 games heading down the home stretch of the season.
