Are any Apple longs worried about PinePhone? It's an extremely impressive project. They are in no position to displace iPhone today but they are on an amazing trajectory. I suspect they will hurt Google more than they will hurt Apple but we will likely start to see really decent phones in the $200 range. As long as Apple/Google can maintain a duopoly, it's not fertile ground for a new platform. This is why PinePhone is unlikely to do well for a long time but it is a bit worrisome.
never heard of it until you mentioned. glanced at the website. no, not worried, at least not presently.
Rumors? Please verify. This has been in the making for years. If you think they won't get involved with the amount of technology and cash they have amassed. They aren't stupid, with the shift into EV they are well fortified to be a serious contender.
For a while it seemed like KIA was the partner, but those talks fell apart. We need to send one of those insect drone things to sit in the CEO's office so we know who they finally choose!
Yep, the modern day fly on the wall. Outsider trading on the inside. I read KIA,HYUNDAI and NISSAN are out but who knows. Highly unlikely but I always felt FORD would be a good partner to a certain degree. Contrary to the belief of some they will enter the EV ring at some point. Even the heavy hitters in big oil are adapting to AE. Just a matter of time. The JETSONS was more than a cartoon.
No idea about which company it might be, but I would have to believe it would be a company with a bit of panache like Lexus, Infinity, Audi, BMW, or Mercedes. That's just my uneducated opinion on the subject though.
Apple wants to design the car completely and then outsource the production. I don't think any established car manufacturer wants to do that job.
Its a huge undertaking to re-tool an existing factory, but with the cult following AAPL has, how can there be a risk? Absolute crap like NKLA gets billion dollar valuations of a picture. Surely AAPL can throw together some way to buyout one of the existing car makers if they wanted.
They have the cash, the hoards of followers, and the weight to throw around. If they are serious, it will get done and be an instant Tesla rival. Although think of the memes!!! "My five year old car runs slow now because it is not compatible with the new iOS!"
Aapl as many others lives on excelent branding management. Sure they have plenty of cash to buy one or several plants all around world, or even built a new their own set of industrial actives. They are not dumb to follow that path. Branding needs more branding, strong names. Do you want a strong name? PORSCHE. Yep, solid german reputation, they still built dream cars, they have the skills, expertise to make a common ground w/ other solid brand as AAPL. Thats why I sugested VW, where Porsche has more than 50% control interest.
