It's a HUGE deal. It's also likely that the death rate is not that high because the bar for who receives testing in the USA is so abysmally high (basically, members of the general public have to be practically ICU-ready to get tested) that it is likely there are millions of carriers and untested infected people that the rate would come down if all those were known. But even at a 1% death rate, if half the US population got COVID that would still result in over 1.5+ million dead.

It's also a huge deal because until there is a vaccine, the struggle to find that line between human health and a functioning economy will continue. And a vaccine is likely to take about 18 months until it is readily available to all. A glimmer of hope closer in time would come in the form of those 5 minute anti-body tests that could detect an individual's exposure to COVID and serve as a screen to deeper tests to determine if antibody-positive folk currently have COVID. If there was a coordinated Federal/State effort to get everybody tested for antibodies, we'd have a key component that is gravely missing in our current battle against the disease: information. So far, we're flying blind.

Was just told by a friend that bleach requires *15 FREAKING MINUTES* to kill the virus. So much for my wash-and-dip technique for sanitizing dishes.

What circle of hell did this virus come from????

Hearing all over the news that the US is "flattening the curve" - but we're still setting records for daily deaths o_O.

At our house we wipe everything down before it comes inside and leave all shoes out in the garage. Anytime we go to the grocery store when we get home we take all clothing off - bag it and take it straight to the laundry room and into the washing machine - dispose of the bag then immediately shower.

Crazy that a grocery trip now takes about 30-45 minutes *after getting home* wiping down all products and everything else.

I hear ya on that one! Dumb people protesting it's like wow...

Yea I am taking minimal precautions since the start of this. Basically just not going out anywhere unless necessary and washing hands as usual. No face mask. No cleaning stuff after it comes into the house. Social distancing as required. I live in the county with the second-highest positive test rate too.

On a side note, a good read about your typical biotech cherry-picking in a time of crisis.

Police brutality, bla bla.. Madrid, known for friendly police officers..

A lock down is a lock down, and guess what, its a lock down.
But as usually, someone knows it better and the regels are not for him..
For the others sure but not for him. Okkk..

Im not advocating a police state but sometimes you
simply should stay calm and do what should be done.

Wife had a scare this weekend and did self quarantine + testing. It was a crappy 24hrs but results came back negative. She actually had to wait over 12hrs to get tested in one of the drive up facilities. There’s just that many testing it appears. I got the call that we may be forced back to work here within the next week or two. Boss man says I’m first on the list because I do employee training and they can’t let anyone go until they have someone to train the new workers. I’m like, how tf can you train someone that has to be 6’ away?

side note, excellent article on how the media portrays things by selective photography

haven't really been visiting this thread much of late and just seeing this for the first time. i was just about to ask this in the nba thread. such an unfortunate timing for this thing to have hit. just as we were months from the playoffs.

i didn't feel like posting this to the mlb thread, but i have been hearing some rumors that they are going to try to get some kind of shortened season going. one source i heard from was that they might get things up and running by next month actually. maybe first opening things up without fans, and then slowly work their way up.

same for the nfl season, but i think they are going to try for a full season in the nfl.

the nfl was really fortunate, the super bowl ended just weeks until this pandemic went full retard on us shutting everything down.

Yeah I personally want to see the NBA finishing its season, maybe with some kind of shortened Playoffs.

I am also hearing there won’t be any home game for MLB teams this season? They will just play in a few stadiums to avoid teams traveling. I am not sure though, I didn’t check the latest MLB news

I can’t imagine what the reaction would be if they had to cancel the Super Bowl, yeah the NFL definitely got lucky. The virus could come back in fall/winter after slowing down in summer, so it is still a concern for the NFL in the upcoming season

Pictures from Hell. That really brings tears in my eyes..

    What a surreal picture.

They keep them alive only to tap their bile. Over and over again.

1 kg of Bear bile powder worth less than 1000 $ in China,
but is about 5-10K worth in South Korea. So whos to blame also..

    Stupid Idiots..

Do not listen to the big orange retard. It is bad. The real numbers are not real.

Myself tested Negative, but one family member and three of wife's co-workers later,.... sucks.

And they want to open up everything, and to quote the big orange retard,..

‘When you test, you have a case. When you test you find something is wrong with people. If we didn’t do any testing, we would have very few cases.’

Because you’re new I’ll just give a verbal warning. Try to keep the name calling and obvious politicization out of your posts. It’s fine to have a side and a take on it, but that kind of language doesn’t promote discussion or help your point, it only starts arguments.

Besides those points, I agree we are opening too early. The problem is though, even in states that aren’t opening, people are out all over the place.

I seem to recall reading a post written by you last week that was not only political but also very anti Trump, maybe you should take a dose of your own advice. . .

Please find it and see if there’s name calling, antagonistic phrasing, intending to generate a response or if it was something else. I’m guessing it was more fact-based, or market-related with language that should be more intended to have a discussion. We can’t completely remove politics or peoples leanings, but we don’t have to be using words that will only start arguments. That’s all I was saying.

    The same here in Germany.

First from yet to now a complete lock down,
then 6 weeks later, 'easing' and all is like before. Crowded places aso aso

You have to wear a mask in a store, no mass gathering allowed, but that was it.
To early and the people are simply stupid. imo. Point.

Its like someone switched something off. Like Covid 19 is over because of... easing... mhh

My girlfriend and me behave like 6 week before.
Im not scared but I dont want to end being connected to a ventilator.

I had a killer flu with 40+ degree last year and thats enough for me for a while.
I dont want to experience that another time, for a long long time..

    Greets.
