There is more honking going on than a flock of geese in a bread factory.

I'm glad Elin was on hand to translate technical jargon back to English. Screenshot_2020-09-22-17-17-36_kindlephoto-188625204.png Screenshot_2020-09-22-17-21-15_kindlephoto-188823640.png

I held off commenting on B-Day, hoping some other folks would opine. I shall spare the keyboard no longer....

Tesla's current batteries are good enough. Tesla has a compelling consumer product and far more demand than they can fulfill. What Tesla, and all other BEV makers, desperately need is an ability to scale. The world is cell constrained.

What tesla showed is an ability to scale. Larger cells, no tabs, higher energy density.

I was hoping the pics floating around of large, grenade size, cells were real pics from Tesla. Even if the big size would have lowered energy density a small amount, it would have been worth it to lower production cost and facilitate scaling. Tesla has found a way to increase cell size and increase energy density.

    Takeaways:

    - 50% increased energy density
    - 66% lowered cost
    - 10x increase in production from the same footprint
    - reduced energy to build cells
    - single facility minerals to product
    - world beating, next generation, ability to leach lithium from ore

As I look at a real time quote of $399, down 6.25%, I find myself speculating on what people might be thinking.

    - "Less than half price. That sounds good but it won't be in full production for a year. Everyone else will have caught up by then."

    - "10x cells taking less energy to manufacture at 1/3 the cost? Is that good?"

    - "It's going to take a year! This fall, FCA will bring in a team of high school students to build a car with more range at lower cost. Then, they will produce millions of them, driving Tesla out of business."

    - "They should bring Robin back so Hughie can plow her one more time."

Tom's reaction: What was shown is exactly what is needed. I remain just as bullish or perhaps more so.

Hahaha. The oracle has spoken! I was waiting on your input! Im too fanboy to be unbiased.

as a holder, i LOVED battery day. As a speculator, it was a letdown. It was quite hyped. For good reason. Long term binoculars for the win!!!! Hands down! Not a win for the what have u done for me lately, crowd. Because they didnt fly in on an electric plane, i assume. Haha.

FYI, i closed my call today. Traded a would be bagger, two days ago, for a 15~20% gainer just because the short sighted peeps dont see the bigger picture. I want the call back. Same expiry, better strike if the stock price allows it this week. A bit let down i didnt capitalize on the bagger, but a green trade is green.

the batteries are real and im going to say proven. Not speculative. Not concept. They already have 10s of thousands. The assembly line is all thats left. SOOOO many expenses have been cut from the process, its actually absurd, in my simple opinion! Completely absurd, how much of the process they have improved.

12k acre nevada purchase to extract lithium with freekin table salt?!?
Same gigawatt ability from a 100k footprint that used to take a million sqft?!
Saving 240? Parts on a car, by integrating the batteries to the frame.
Thermal problems are a thing of the past, it sounds?

closed loop refining for zero waste....
Once the assembly line is engineered, every factory could realistically take one ramp, and produce what a million sqft factory was producing, today.
This was a GIANT leap in engineering! Colossal! If the event wasnt so hyped and these tidbits of info were leaked slowly, i would say every one of the 5 or 6 major key developments, would have sent the shares up 10% each.

edit. That 10x cannot be understated/overstated...its 10 times cheaper real estate purchases for expansion (battery department). (And we know they plan to expand a lot). 10 times, cheaper machinery....probably a lesser than 10 times but exponential reduction in time to manufacture, but a huge bottleneck relieved.

70?% less waste? If i recall right?
And with them owning mining property, will no longer see pics of craters where a lithium mine was, and now is a hole....a big bear argument.....there are so many positives from this.

my biggest problem with it, is Im just sad i dont have more capital to throw at long term.

    This is all great news!

Thing is, people are expecting cold fusion, 1000mile range, 5min charge time...

    @StockJock-e post

Short term people are/were. Short sighted...whatever it may be. I honestly think this tech will springboard them to eventually be the biggest company in the world. By profit, not market cap.

Well, NKLA did roll their truck downhill for the footage, so it is a good strategy.

I'm a long term investor and I don't think I fully understand the trader mindset, however, for me, one year is the blink of an eye.

Nobody is going to catch up to Tesla in that year. Nobody is going to catch up in two years.

I think being an investor means considering 5, 10, 20 year future situations.

It fees like Elon is sandbagging because of the Osborne Effect. A lot of people are waiting for the new battery reveal before making a purchase decision.

Battery expert's take on Battery Day:

    upload_2020-9-23_12-55-11.png

    1. Cell format change and tabless design. A+
    2. Si anode . A- , did not specify the Si loading so cannot estimate Wh/kg at cell level.
    3. Diversify cathode materials choices . A+ , excellent way to handle supply chain issue
    4. Change cathode manufacturing - B+, Tesla becomes a chemical company? !
    5. New large cast alloy car body - no grade since it is not my field
    6. Recycling - A+ way to go, but treat your third party partners nicely.
    Congratulations @Tesla

    A couple news for today:

Newsom orders 2035 phaseout of gas-powered vehicles, calls for fracking ban

Tesla sues U.S. government to overturn Trump administration tariffs on China
    https://www.cnbc.com/2020/09/23/tesla-sues-to-overturn-trump-administration-tariffs-on-china-.html

I am impressed and super bullish, will pick up more shares and not worrying to average up.

    Quick audit...

Elon said he was confident they could create capacity for 3TWh before 2030. That's 9 years.

Assuming only 1.5TWh is for vehicles, that would produce 40x the number of vehicles they produce today, assuming the same range.
