Mazda was the last major manufacturer to offer a hybrid but they have had the best corporate average emissions of any company.

There was a minor scandal when Hyundai was thought to have the best emissions but it was discovered they were cheating.

They achieved the lowest emissions by evolving their drivetrains with new engine designs and continuing to iterate existing designs. Skyactive-X is a particularly alluring engine technology. Mazda has achieved compression ignition in a gas engine. This has been sought after for a century and only accomplished recently by Mazda. This platform is said to provide significant fuel economy improvement and massive emissions improvements.

Mazda is a company on top of their game, at the moment. I don't see them as a threat to Tesla, or anyone, but I'm glad they are planning to electrify their product line.

That is interesting, Ill have to read up on that.

Hopefully they start shifting more into EV and bring the same innovation with them.

At this point, we have a pretty good handle on Tesla's ability to build gigafactories. The timelines will probably stretch out, for future gigafactories, due to tesla moving toward producing batteries and other components. To combat this, Tesla will need to expand Grohmann where they produce the manufacturing equipment.

Here is a video of the Grohmann factory expansion in Germany. Given what we know of constructing this building type, It seems to be on a trajectory for early 2022 move-in.

Tesla is being viciously attacked in China, similar to the American smear campaign of 2017-2020.

Instead of getting into a flame war, Tesla has responded by opening the longest supercharger route in china. 2700 Kms.

That, gentlemen, is how its done. Dont let the bad guys distract you from your game.

I was going to post a valuation trajectory, tied to the upcoming AI day, this morning but nothing of investing substance can compete with this gem....

Elon Musk is now living in a portable, foldable, prefab, house in Boca Chica, TX.

Credit goes to Teslarati for this pic.

I left it up this time, but posted a warning to your account. Please, no self-promotion if that's all you're doing is posting a YT video. At least include a summary or something of value to the forum.

The Roadrunner expansion looks complete, to my eye, but there are still about a dozen containers in the parking lot. These containers might be SOP for operations.

Right now, Tesla is producing about 800K vehicles on an annualized basis. This doesn't come close to justifying the current $700B market cap but Tesla has a lot of irons in the fire and every one of those irons have a lot of promise.

Tesla appears to be on track to double current production levels in the next 8 months.

Given that GM produces roughly 7M vehicles per year with a market cap of $90B, I would say there continues to be a lot of speculative money stored in TSLA. Once FSD comes online, the automotive division will stop being the most profitable division. They continue to spool the energy division which is also expected to produce more profit than auto in the future.

A few Tesla analysts have very specific production targets for Q2. I'm surprised at their claimed accuracy.

I stopped counting registered VINs a year ago but I had a process that involved projecting production using the number of registered VINs and assuming a 15 day lag to production (at times, the lag was longer). I got pretty close but I don't see how they can claim to be within 1000 cars of accurate. It is particularly more difficult with Chinese registrations being invisible. I was never able to crack that nut and used Reddit numbers for the Chinese component. Perhaps they have access to information I did not or maybe they are full of balogna.

Whatever the case, it looks like Tesla will come close to 200K units for the quarter. Tesla should get close to 1M cars this year but they will certainly be producing at an annualized rate of 1M+ annual units, this calendar year.

A 1M car production rate (forward looking) is right around the corner for Tesla and I believe this achievement will resonate with investors, perhaps impacting the market cap.

They are starting to pave Giga Texas. I believe they will start sampling structure at GT within the next month. GT will not impact Tesla's production rate in 2021.

We saw body samples at Berlin, a couple of weeks ago. With a minor legal hurdle cleared, they are clear to start sample production. GB will not impact Tesla's production rate in 2021.

Giga Shanghai is the unknown. They have been working on so many buildings at once, it is difficult to know which, if any, of these buildings are related to production. I believe they have, at least, two multiple Model Y lines operating at production capacity with four planned. It is possible one or two of the other GA lines are already sampling but I have no visibility into this.

In terms of scaling production, I think new capacity in Q3 will have to come from Giga Shanghai. If they can get another GA online, that will add 30K cars per quarter. They will need two more GA lines operating at production capacity to make cars at an annualized rate of 1M units. This will have to happen at Shanghai, if it happens in 2021.

    Speculated production:

    Q2: 190K
    Q3: 220K
    Q4: 250K+

It's become clear that both Berlin and Texas will come online producing Model Y with cast frames, 4680 batteries, and structural packs. This will be a new iteration of Model Y and *might* feature a slight body iteration, similar to the Model S evolution. I speculate this because it's hard to imagine the battery pack and frame redesigns without providing a very minor update on the look, to distinguish the new cars. On the other hand, they may want to make the change stealthy, as to not undermine the desirability of Fremont cars.

As always, it comes down to battery production. This time, the pressure is on Roadrunner. We know they are producing a lot of cells at Roadrunner but I have no idea how close they are to a 10GW/yr ramp. Things have been said that suggest they still have work to do but there isn't a lot of information here, nor do I expect any until the cars start streaming off production.
