Whether you are going to work or working from home, the COVID-19 pandemic has probably changed the way you work. How you cope with these emotions and stress can affect your well-being, the well-being of the people you care about, your workplace, and your community. During this pandemic, it is critical that you recognize what stress looks like, take steps to build your resilience and manage job stress, and know where to go if you need help. Do you have any tips to build resilience and manage job stress?
Get enough sleep, do exercise, even walking 20 min in once day, eat healthy! Take care of your body and everything falls into place.
I apologize for changing the subject but I have recently taken a change of view, in terms of stress. I'm stepping away from labour intensive methods and migrating toward a strategy that is less demanding. Curiously, our returns haven't wavered in the year, or so, we have been moving this way. When I think about my career, I wish I had done something I enjoyed more. I enjoyed parts of my career, hated parts, and was just ok with much of it. I watch YouTube videos related to my interests and I see people who have made a nice living at my interests. I wish I had been brave enough to pursue my passions. No need to feel sorry for me but I chose the more difficult path. If you are hating your job, put your mind to improving your life. We have more power that we realize.
Working from home stress is remarkably common for remote employees. You should have a distinct schedule for when to work and when to pause to maintain a perfect work-life balance.
I found working from home less stressful because of the sharply lower number of assholes I had to deal with daily.
It was stressful, but moreso annoying last March-May when I worked from home on the days my wife was working as well and I was home alone with the 3 year old. Not sure I'd call it stress as much as annoyance though.
My job is extremely physical, AND stressful. I recently re-injured myself. I am having sleep issues, stomach issues, you name it all in the name of stress. I want to join a gym. BUT, covid has me worried. I am vaxxed and will be getting the booster as soon as it's available. So for now, I'm working out with my weights at home. Exercise is excellent for stress reduction, plus getting my muscles back where they were should cut down on possible future injuries.
Hang in there, Syynik. COVID is an unusual situation. It looks like we may never be rid of it. It will continue to morph and become more lethal as long as we culture it in our biosphere. That idea changes a lot of things, including how I see the future of investing.
I can definitely relate to needing to manage stress. I have been mostly unemployed for 18 months now. In March 2021, I was terminated from a "dream job," because of some bullshit where I reported a co-worker for misconduct only to find out that co-worker was my boss' wife. I was terminated shortly after for "no call, no show," despite calling off the day after I was in a car accident in which my car was totaled. A few months later I finally found another good job and went through their hiring process, was told I passed their background screening, and started working. I was fired at the end of my 1st day of work when a senior HR member found a felony charge from 8 years ago. Then just recently I found a decent/acceptable job that I agreed to take and they have now cancelled or delayed Orientation on 3 different occasions. /rant I have 83$ to my name and 4-days until rent is due. I am and have been beyond stressed. My tips for managing stress; Marijuana, Exercise, Hobby (cannabis cultivation is extremely relaxing and rewarding), Listening to Podcasts, and Research. I love finding topics of interest (stocks, cannabis, politics, sports, etc) and learning everything I can about them.
I hear a lot of people say that exercise is excellent for stress reduction, even experts say that. What is your injury?
I broke this ankle a few years ago, and last month rolled it so it's now sprained. It's coming along pretty well and I'm REALLY happy I didn't break it again. Physical therapy is doing wonders!
Glad you’re doing well now. I think the lockdown forced a lot of people to really examine what they want/need in life and experiment or change up the way they do things. I had a great job that turned into a nightmare. It led to depression, then me having a mental breakdown as I was in near complete isolation for several months. Wasn’t great at the time, but in the long run it did me a favour, as most places had stopped hiring and I was forced to go the self-employed route. Up to that point I’d avoided it, as all the PAYE jobs I’d had had been fine and I didn’t think I was a business owner ‘type’. So that was an interesting challenge that I wouldn’t have done otherwise. I’m not an introvert, so I still really miss being around other people and having someone to bounce ideas off. That’s probably the hardest bit for me. Running a company is incredibly isolating if it’s just you and everyone else is remote (my nearly 2 year old niece doesn’t quite cut it as a co-pilot!) So until I have a bigger and/or more local team, I’ll likely do some sort of PAYE work for the social aspect. But having the chance to focus entirely on that was one silver lining of Covid and I now have a business I can gradually build up. When life gives you lemons, make limoncello cocktails!
