That doesn't make sense? Tariffs are paid by importers, not exporters.

Tariffs are taxes, plain and simple. They are to protect local economies from external flooding. Importers generally have very thin margins, so you can bet your ass that all price increases are paid by the consumer. It's just not that hard to understand... except when one allows themselves to be blinded by partisan politics.

Rah! Rah! Go my team that would not stop to put me out if I was on fire! Rah! Rah!

Money123, I know you mean well, but you really need to read up this topic.

Oh my. Elon is totally torching the administration now over the big bill and tariffs. Just smoking them about it….calling to fire all those politicians who supported it.

I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination,” the tech billionaire posted on X. “Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

In another, he said: “In November next year, we fire all politicians who betrayed the American people.”

This is what hardball looks like:

Global alarms rise as China's critical mineral export curbs takes hold
    https://www.msn.com/en-ca/money/top...l-mineral-export-curbs-takes-hold/ar-AA1G2g39

You cannot spend decades building up China to do your dirty work and then make them out to be the villain with no backup plan. I dislike the Chinese government as much as everyone else, but the lack of prep before engaging in a trade battle with them is insane!

Me thinks that black eye came from a cabinet member as a parting gift. Now Elon is free to speak his crazy mind.

It is cute though that he thought he would rein in government spending.

    Could have.:D

When he first took the appointment you could just tell….those two ego’s….not a room big enough and never going to work.

Now it is going off the rails. I find it quite hilarious.

    Ahhh, we have our winner:

    https://apnews.com/article/elon-mus...-abomination-157b8733b60c343a5f8e551ffc887bf3

"The legislation, which has passed the House and is currently under debate in the Senate, would curtail subsidies that benefit Tesla, Musk’s electric automaker."

    https://www.teslarati.com/how-tesla-could-benefit-from-the-big-beautiful-bill-axes-ev-subsidies/

"The bill will not only eliminate the $7,500 credit on new EV purchases, but also the $4,000 credit given on the purchase of used electric vehicles, and a $1,000 credit on the installation of Level 2 chargers. It will also impact solar subsidies that help generate clean energy in a residential setting.
EVs would also be subject to a $250 road use fee."

Yeah, Musk is pissed I'd say :D

Now where do I go to invest in ketamine?

Why this charity? Mercantilism has been debunked; it's like being a communist or a flat-earther. In today's age, a quick Google search will tell you how tariffs work and who pays them. How do you know he means well and isn't just a troll? They are so popular on the internet...maybe I'm playing right into his hands as he guffaws at how he's irritating me!

Now, of course, many Americans are incredibly stupid. Perhaps Money123 is one of these people; he doesn't understand basic things. In that case, he can be forgiven...but in either case, he's not reachable.

Simple: He's never been rude to me.

It goes both ways. A simple Google search will also prove to any knowledge seeker the error in his stance. He's just innocently posting into the wind. It's clear he is not actively trying to change anyone's mind, because he's not really blitzing this place with spam. He'd be a terrible troll due to his low post count compared to his join date and his rather pedestrian posting style. He's not even close to provocative.

I am not going to spend my time trying to educate him. He's free to learn what he wants, but I am also not going to go out of my way to be mean to him if he demonstrates no ill intent.

If I were to guess which of the four of us (TomB16, rolexian, roadtonowhere08, Money123) have had the best 5 year return, I would not bet against M123.

We'll never know because I am not going to participate. All I'm saying is that he has views and ideas that are interesting. I'm glad he's here.

For some reason, people want to create an echo chamber which reinforces their views. This is not a sign of strength.

I am not sure if this is partially aimed at me, but I want to be very clear:

I happen to think he is demonstrably wrong in his views on tariffs, but since, like you, I am also not a fan of echo chambers, he should feel free to post whatever he wants. My suggestion was not an attempt to silence him. He would benefit from reading all he can on the topic. I know I have learned a lot more about tariffs thanks to our dear leader's actions.

And we all know TireSmoke is kicking our asses in returns :D

Yeah, I think a good percentage of us have a good grasp on tariffs.

I think some of the confusion comes from the PR campaign from the administration itself. We need to look no further than how it was and continues to be implemented. We don’t know from one day to the next what is really going on or what the real plan is.

Most that believe nothing is happening and everything is fine do not realize the time it takes for these to work into the economy.

At this point, we don’t know….because there is nothing set in stone. We live from one social media post to the next.

Many CFO’s have mentioned the costs and the consumers, but have also stated they will have to see, because they don’t have an answer either.

I”m not speculating or predicting something dire because we have no clue what the end plan is. The same could be said for those that think it is a big nothing story. They don’t know either.

Tariffs can be used in a proper way and useful in strategic ways, but you really have to understand their use and function.

It has been one of the most poorly executed policies I have seen.
