wow not a single post on the main weekly thread since june not to scare anyone off but this site could have its lights shut off any month. the admin has been awol for over 18 weeks. effectively means this site is w/o an active owner. hope you all have been doing well! it’s been too long.
Well, this is not a good sign. Can we get any other confirmation that this is the swan song for the site?? T0rm3nted....any information?
I am not sure where @StockJock-e has been, I got no notification he was going to be taking a break or anything. I'm not involved in any of the administration of this site, only a moderator, so I'm not aware if Gil has plans of actually taking the site offline.
hey smokie, apologies for sending conflicting signals there. as i said in my op, i did not intend to scare anyone off it is just a suspicion of mine as of now. i’ve actually been in contact with stockjocke (owner of this site) via text messaging. and we are potentially working out a way to merge communities with the site that i linked. currently it’s up in the air because it may not be possible for us to move stockaholics as a view-only archiving site due to its size. it’s gotten a bit large over the past decade. that’s the current hold up unfortunately. so we’re looking for ways to resurrect what is left here. more to come soon. still in talks with stockjocke so when more is known i’ll be sure to pass it along here.
Thanks for the update. Sounds like I might need to start packing the suitcase…lol. It’s been fun while it lasted. I have enjoyed many of the posters here.
yeah.....I have noticed for.....A WHILE......that it might not be possible to register or sign up for this site anymore. Does anyone know if this is true. With all the infrastructure in place and core posters on this site....it seems like someone would be willing to take it over and grow it from here....if the current owner is burned out.
yea that is a good catch there w. that’s one of the things i had also noted a long while back that had me a little suspicious that something wasn’t quite right here. i’m still in private talks with the site owner, so that’s at least a positive. but tbh the fate of this site doesn’t look too promising right now. this doesn’t mean this site will just close down immediately right now. i think smokie hit on it precisely in the long term investors thread where he suggested that it’s not a matter of “if” but “when”. keep in mind that this pretty much speculation on mine or anyone’s part. we don’t really know exactly with absolute certainty what will happen to the future of this forum. however with how things stand currently with an AWOL site owner who as you had alluded to appears to have burned out doesn’t send an encouraging signal for the future of this site. i think for now we could assume that this site will remain online, but it’s really not a terrible idea to have some kind of contingency plan in place in the event disaster strikes, and this site suddenly goes in the dark and by that time it would be too late. that would be really unfortunate if we lost touch of each other.
Double thread post: I would very much like it if WXYZ's thread could be archived and (if possible) ported over to any new site that the members of that thread become a part of. It is too valuable to potentially lose. In any case, I hope the right people see this and confirm what is being said one way or another.
agreed 100% road. the long term investors thread is one of the, if not the greatest thread i have personally ever come across on any investing forum of all time. the amount of knowledge, time and effort spent into that single thread on a daily basis from wxyz is simply astounding imho. i also feel like having an archive of that entire thread would be absolutely imperative for any site move. that’s 7 years worth of content that would be an absolute tragedy to lose. fwiw, we had a similar thread going back in the HSM days from a poster named “bigbull” that was about as invaluable as w’s thread. it was unfortunately lost when we moved from HSM to stockaholics. hence, i’d really hate to see another repeat of that here yet again. would be incredibly devastating imho. anyway, as for the admin here i’m really hoping he is going to try to make some effort to log in here someday soon to update us all on the situation of this board and what to expect going forward. i’ve actually been chatting it up with him privately via phone texts this past week as we are trying to explore ways to resurrect what is left of this community. the updates have unfortunately been a bit infrequent due to how busy he has been lately. but it’s at least somewhat good news to hear from him, if not here at least privately. but as smokie mentioned in the long term thread, it will really go a long way in defusing any speculation and fears there are for the future of this site once he has come out and posted an update on this site, to reassure us all that everything is staying put here as it is for the foreseeable future. as of now though, everything as you alluded to is indeed just speculation. that being said, i do feel like having safeguards isn’t a bad idea either. hence having said contingency plans in place for if something god forbid bad happened to this site and it just goes dark. that all being said, i do want to apologize in advance to smokie and others here if it seemed like i had some kind of “motivations” for spreading rumors. that honestly was not my intentions at all. truth be told, i am genuinely concerned for the future of this community. and would absolutely hate to see the community disband altogether if something like the site going dark occurred. i just like to play things safe is all. once i hear back from the admin and have more info on things i’ll be sure to share it here. unless he chimes in here him himself would be best imho.
think i'll use this thread to post some short-term market commentary as w's long term thread more geared for long term content. earnings season is mostly done until next month, however there are still some notables on tap for this week. here's the full list courtesy of earnings whispers:
wrote this over on w's long term thread earlier, but this market continues to amaze me with its continued strength. the thing that amazes me most is the lack of any pullback or sideways action. it's just been a grind higher and higher seemingly everyday for a while now. granted we're not ripping 1-2% per day (which is good), so this kind of climb (which i kinda like to call "stair stepping higher") isn't too bad. but, i still feel like at some point it would be pretty healthy to see some digestion of these highs. either in the form of a price pullback or a correction through time (sideways action) for a while. will admit though, i did not anticipate us reaching these heights this quickly. yes, i did think we could hit these levels at some point by year end. but to do this in one of the most volatile market months (historically speaking) in september is really quite impressive to me. this definitely is becoming one of the most power rallies (by the size and length) i've witnessed ever. fact is, the nasdaq is now off over 50% from its april bottom. only took 5 months is pretty insane.
