Of course....keep in mind the famous saying........WHAT ME WORRY? Lisa Su Isn't Worried About AI Hype Fears, Says Big Bet With OpenAI Could Pay Off 'Tens Of Billions Of Dollars' — AMD Stock Spikes 1.5% After Hours https://finance.yahoo.com/news/lisa-su-isnt-worried-ai-203103304.html I was a big fan of MAD MAGAZINE as a 10-15 year old....back in the old days of the 1950's and 1960's.
I like how NVDA is broadening their investment among many other companies. Nvidia among investors in xAI’s $20bn capital raise - Bloomberg News https://www.investing.com/news/econ...n-xais-20-bln-capital-raise-bloomberg-4276064 They are making themselves an AI CONGLOMERATE.
Well, how is everybody? I have been on a little hiatus for a bit. Took a nice little trip to enjoy some places and scenery. Now, I have to catch up on some of the thread and happenings. It appears the market has made it just fine without me doing a thing as usual.
I took a little break to wrap up some family corporation business. We had our shareholder vote to sell all assets nd dissolve the corporation this morning and I needed to deal with my cousin to get the language right for the corporate minutes. NOW....we move on to selling all land and mineral rights and distributing the proceeds to all of us......16......shareholders as a qualified dividend. We will pay DOUBLE TAX on the gains......as a corporation and also when we get the qualified dividend as shareholders......BUMMER Unfortunately this business was NOT set up as a Sub-Chapter S Corp.....and it is too late now to change it....so we are stuck with double taxes. I am not sure Sub-Chapter S even existed when this corporation was set up in the mid 1960's. The cost of the double tax to us........a needless 20% capital gains rate at the corporate level.
Looks like the two "stories" getting attention have been another government shutdown and the "AI bubble." If memory serves me well, most of the other shutdowns haven't had much effect on the market and this one appears about the same. Of course, we seem to go through this now almost on a regular basis. Nothing new in that aspect for sure. The AI deal seems to be a very hot topic within the financial media circles. I don't have too much speculation to offer. The big companies really don't have much choice, but to pile in at this point. If it turns out to be all that has been forecast, they really can't wait to spend until then....even if some of it may be a bet or gamble. They can stand the loss much easier than some of these other companies if it did not pan out to be as promised. There is a lot left to be determined with all of it. The spending, power generation required, applicable/not applicable areas, and the list could go on and on. I think some of this will be much further down the road....at least definitive answers and how much impact may come from it. One thing for sure, a ton of money is being spent and a lot of "hopes" for some of the companies. An expensive venture indeed.
BUT.....I am HAPPY to see that I have a nice gain so far today. I only have two stocks RED right now...HD and GOOGL. If we keep going like this to the close I will end up with a big gain for the day.
YEP....you got it SMOKIE....those are definately the two issues that the media is focused on right now. Of course we know how often they are correct in their focus and opinions.....mostly NEVER. The shut-down.....WHO CARES. The AI issue......opaque and unknown till it happens and becomes the past.....as the markets and business always are....especially short term. That is why I HIDE OUT in the long term..
Looks like bigbear chimed in with a bit of an update. Thanks for that. Not much else you can do. I agree with others. There are no new members and no way for anyone who might want to join. Of course, that is the site owner's decision and maybe this place is just too much to handle....especially if you are involved with other ventures. The issue, as others have pointed out, is people may still view and read along. However, they can't join in with questions or commentary. My guess is they will simply go somewhere else they can participate and be active. I suspect there have been many that have done so. And who knows, maybe that is the intent to slowly wind the place down without just cutting the site off. The only members we have....is what we have at this point, so the inevitable will eventually be upon us I suppose. Kind of unfortunate.
While out and about I saw no signs of "consumers" slowing any spending or enjoyment on doing things. Of course, that is just an anecdotal observation, but it appeared full tilt in many, many places. I even spoke to a few business owners which informed me they were simply "booming" and were at all time high with sales/attendance. Good for them.....and I was also glad to support their continued run...lol.
As to the markets, I have missed out on most of the hoopla the last couple of weeks and gladly so I might add. It is good to get away from everything for a while. However, as most of you are aware, we have simply been smashing the market since those April lows. Remember back then? We have been on a very nice run since. To think we are well into October already seems quick.
I bet TireSmoke is slaying the returns with his Tech tilt.....if I am remembering correctly. Probably RTN as well. Hope you are well.
YES....at least people like us that are already members can still log-in and post. AND...others that are not members can still read here. BUT with no one being able to sign up.....it severely limits the human interaction on this site and takes away a lot of what would be interesting. Lets hope that at the least....it can be set up for people to still sign up as members. I see the advertising on this site all the time...so I would think it is to the owners benefit for the site to stay alive and be able to accept new members....even if he just lets it run by itself with no management. AND.....we actually run pretty well on this site with NO management......since that is what we have been doing for at least a year or more now. It may not be HUGE income but this site is producing some income....this thread alone has.....436,500.....views so far in year 2025. We will hit about a HALF MILLION by year end.....yes, I keep a few statistics. Add in all the other threads and this entire site has to be producing about three quarters of a million .....to a....million....views per year. Each view is at least one click that counts for some small bit of advertising money.
With the little shut-down.....we have not heard much from our friends at the FED. For those that are missing them....here you go. A divided Fed sees more rate cuts ahead this year: FOMC minutes https://finance.yahoo.com/news/a-di...s-ahead-this-year-fomc-minutes-190100540.html
Perhaps with this site not taking new members.....those of us that have a log-in ID and password have a valuable asset. If this site was advertised as a VERY EXCLUSIVE SITE that does not take new members....it might become so desirable that all of us would end up leaving our log-in ID and password to our....heirs. Or being able to sell our log-in information. OK....we will market this board as.....the most EXCLUSIVE......MONEY message board....in the world. The only way to join is to buy out an existing member EXCLUSIVITY.......creates big demand and value. Just a little.....nearly to the market close....FANTASY.
I CERTAINLY like this. Nvidia's Jensen Huang Says AI Demand Is Up 'Substantially' This Year, and Still Growing https://finance.yahoo.com/news/nvidias-jensen-huang-says-ai-183845400.html NOW....the question is...will the markets reward success?
MORE....good news for NVDA since they own a big CHUNK....about 7%..... of this company as part of their "portfolio". CoreWeave stock rallies as company introduces new AI tools for developers https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/08/coreweave-stock-ai-developer-tools.html
As I said a day or two ago.....ANTITRUST INSURANCE....for NVDA. AMD’s deal with OpenAI gives Nvidia much-needed challenger in market it dominates https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/08/amd...s-nvidia-a-needed-challenger-in-ai-chips.html
