LOL....I think my timing of retirement in 1999....was about as bad as you can get with the DOT-COM crash in 2000-2002, and the near world economic collapse in 2008-2009. BUT....you just adapt and muddle on.

What If This Turns Out to Be a Terrible Time to Retire?
Preretirees and new retirees concerned about today’s markets can take steps to protect themselves.

    YES....they are.

Bonds Are Behaving Just Like Bonds

    https://behaviouralinvestment.com/2026/05/19/bonds-are-behaving-just-like-bonds/

....."Despite all the noise, bonds are behaving in just the way we should expect them to. It is probably fair to say that in an era of low inflation and falling yields investors didn’t make their portfolios sufficiently resilient to scenarios where bonds don’t complement equities as effectively. Yet this is the fault of investors, not the bonds.".....

MORE....media BS. They will ALWAYS find something to NIT-PICK in the NVDA earnings. The company can NEVER win.

The ARM-CHAIR MORONS.....that have zero experience running an actual business.....are NEVER satisfied. Of course the short term traders and speculators just LOVE all this BS....for their trading.

Investors might be penalizing Nvidia for not boosting cash returns like its Big Tech peers

    https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/a...eturns-like-its-big-tech-peers-122358951.html

....."Based on Arya’s research, only 47% of Nvidia’s free cash flow from calendar years 2022 through 2025 has been allocated to dividends and stock buybacks, compared with peers that return around 80% of their free cash flow"......

This is EXACTLY what the most DOMINANT COMPANY in the world.....should NOT be doing. It is a WASTE of corporate assets. They should be doing EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE DOING.....invest in growth assets to improve and grow the company.

    As noted:

......."Nvidia, instead, has plowed its cash into the AI ecosystem, investing in tech partners such as OpenAI (OPAI.PVT) and Anthropic (ANTH.PVT), which Arya believes has been “unfairly” characterized as risky circular/vendor financing."....

This.....is a HUGE reason for the market weakness until the last 4 or so weeks. AI tells me that.....once again...it is our friends....The Hedge Funds......screwing with the markets.

"Hedge funds have aggressively shed equities in recent months, unwinding positions and building heavy short interest at a near-record pace due to tariff pressures, global geopolitical risks, and high inflation. While "smart money" managers de-risk, retail investors have frequently acted as the primary dip-buyers.

    Key Market Observations

    • Historic Sell-Offs: Institutional clients and levered ETFs unloaded tens of billions of dollars in shares, driven by macro de-risking and tariff-related market shocks.
    • Focus on Tech and ETFs: Technology, media, and telecom (TMT) sectors saw some of the most severe unwinding, while large-cap ETF shorting surged as funds braced for broader market downturns.
    • Contrarian Retail Sentiment: Professional selling has stood in contrast to retail investors, who have continued to provide steady inflows and act as consistent buyers during market pullbacks.
    • Sector Concentration: Despite the broad sell-off, hedge funds have heavily pivoted their remaining equity exposure into high-conviction plays, such as a record-high allocation in semiconductor stocks. "

As to the above......the "SMART MONEY"....the Hedge Fund speculators.....dumped stocks heading into a historic new all time record market high. These......"SHORT".....investors are mostly just lemmings. Lot of activity, noise, churning, and meaningless BS in what they do.

I had a small...medium LOSS yesterday. Looks like I have made most of it back so far today. BUT.....I have not bothered to look at my account. The ticker tells me that four of my stocks......AMZN, NVDA, PLTR, and AAPL...... are doing well today....so far.

In the end.....today is IRRELEVANT....the rest of the week will be all about....NVDA EARNINGS. With the MEDIA in full on BS MODE....telling us why we should not be happy with yet another historic earnings BEAT.

AND.....the AI trading platforms and other short term traders will be in a...... FULL ON RUSH...to trade the media headlines. Which of course usually means a drop in NVDA following historic earnings. It is impassible for the company to address or meet MADE UP media expectations or nit-picking of earnings.

Yeah, most of the folks I knew approaching retirement at any given time pretty much had their date set and mind made up about the exit date.

I have thought about market type conditions and what they may be when I reach that point. Probably more out of just "wondering" than anything else.

No doubt I have put in some planning for preparation, but that has been more about the bigger picture than a market type event. I fully anticipate there will be a number of bear markets left....even in retirement time.

I do think it is important to incorporate some planning beforehand and explore the whole financial picture which includes the portfolio, other sources of income (fixed or otherwise), getting debt off the books, other living expenses and so on.

Sequencing risk is something to consider especially when/if you are making withdraws to fund lifestyle/retirement. That type of thinking and planning needs to be done well beforehand. I've got a nice pension coming, so I have a pretty good defense already built in....but I still want to manage it reasonably.

Agreedl a 2% pullback is not u usual, ive even been up 2.75% in a day, but being down over 2% and then an hour later your almost even is one hell of a move in an hour......

More TYPICAL......BS....media content, fishing for CLICKS. BUT...the speculators and AI headline traders will love this kind of CRAP over the next two days as they try to ramp up and continue the negativity driving NVDA stock down after another GREAT earnings BEAT.

There are '2 bear cases' for Nvidia ahead of earnings

    https://finance.yahoo.com/video/2-bear-cases-nvidia-ahead-120000319.html

Just the usual CRAP above....but it does manage to routinely drive NVDA down after earnings. The little people....us retail investors....all know this pattern and simply IGNORE it since there is nothing we can do. I like the comments to the above:

    * Seems to be a fad on Wallstreet these days.

    * The last 4 earnings there was a big sell off the next two days before the start of the next uptrend.

    * Probably repeats itself, just buy and hold. .

    * After they beat expectations. Which they do on a regular basis.

    * Always negative and always WRONG

    * ❤️

    * If any of the things he said in the video is news to you, perhaps you shouldn't be investing in individual stocks like NVDA.

    * The one exception is his last comment, that current valuation is discounting inference threats. That's not insightful though, just wrong: NVDA's forward PE is about 17,, low PEG ratio, that means it is NOT being discounted.

    * There aren't any bear cases

    * ❤️

    * No bear cases to be found in this article (edited)

    * Like AMD And Micron if the Money wants it to Run It will Run, Simple and True these guy's just try to make their opinions more than what they are because thats all they are is their Opinion. The Money Might and the Money might not

    * When these drooling idiots are talking about bear cases and NVDA, time to buy. They make Cramer look accurate. (edited)

Well we are nearing the closing bell. As most of you know my account is a 'little' bias towards NVDA shares so I have some skin in the game. The funny thing is even when it dropped like a rock after last ER it eventually grinded it's way up toa new ATH. The disappointing part is it's returns the past year are a fraction of other competitors. All I know if the headlines are any indicator of what direction we are heading then we need to hold on! First headline on Google is telling us we need to Jump Ship!

We'll I expect to open my portfolio in the morning to a pop up "all hope abandon ye who enter here"

Doing nothing. Holding for the long term. Hard work. Onward and Upward.

WELL....I had a small....big gain today in my stocks. ALL were green except for COST. A nice small rally into the close for me. BUT...I got beat by tthe SP500 today by...0.26%.

Not that any of this matters.....it is all about NVDA. Unfortunately this single stock has to carry the entire weight of the world...on it's back. SO....it is never good enough.
