I'm sure the beatings will continue until moral improves. There isn't much to do but ride it out.

    A bit more POSITIVITY.

3 realities from the summer tech stock rout you are probably overlooking

    https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/a...t-you-are-probably-overlooking-142723054.html

......"The drawdown in tech may have investors forgetting about a few realities:

    • The tech sector's forward P/E ratio has declined to 22 times, down from an October peak of 32 times, representing a valuation reset of about 30%, Lerner said.
    • The sector's valuation (forward P/E) premium versus the S&P 500 (^GSPC) has narrowed to 13%, down materially from the nearly 50% peak seen earlier in the bull market.
    • Tech's earnings estimates continue to push to new highs, significantly outpacing the broader market.".....

No new cars in the itinerary for this year unless something really cool pops up. With work and family I haven't really used the ones I have as much as I would like. I'm not rushing it but when my toddler gets big enough to be in a booster seat it will open up more options, possibly a 911. I'm at the point where if I can' include my son it will never get used. The only car that might make sense would be a CTS-V but I'm not convinced that would be any better than my BMW M with Xdrive(gotta move in the snow!). Darn customer cars are making it impossible to get time to work on my own! I'm lucky to slide in for oil changes and basic service! I added another lift early this year with hopes to free up some shop space for my projects and ended up filling it up immediately with a big customer build that we are wrapping up now.

holy cow, you weren't kiddin' @Smokie

i just did a search for "stock forums" on google and noticed stockaholics is no longer coming up on the top 3 pages as it used to for me...in fact it's not even coming up until the 15th page of that key phrase for me.

when it finally did show up on that page, i noticed the title of the search result wasn't even displaying as "stockaholics".

screenshot for proof from the google search itself:

not sure what is up with that tbh. o_O

that being said, this site doesn't appear to be acting strange despite it which is somewhat encouraging i suppose.

and yeah this ^^ 100%! i wholeheartedly agree with you on the hideous ads here. it feels to me like it's only gotten worse over the years too...

i know RTN posted a link to a workaround that might prevent the ads from appearing. but honestly, i'd rather not have to do that at all if i don't have to personally...

those ads are a bit of an eyesore (i'm speaking mostly for the newcomers of this site) to say the least.

i know if i was a new person who just stumbled across this forum for the first time, those ads would be a massive turn off for me and i would 100% pass up signing up a membership here (not like anyone can do that as it is anyway - since membership has been closed off here for over 2 years now!) and close the site never to visit it again. that's unfortunate..

meanwhile, that "other site" is slowly creeping up on the google searches:

only on the 7th page of a "stock forums" search lol. :lauging:

idk much about SEO but hoping that search result improves a bit more.

anyway, i hope you all have been doing swell. it has been a minute.

i've largely been MIA from the day-to-day markets taking a nice break from it all as we are in the thick of the summer season. been on vacay and planning another trip w/ the fam. soon.

should be back to more regular activity once schools are back in session. :)

I don't know how some of you live with ads. This is what the home screen looks like to me:

I guess I might be a bit of an outlier with regard to the markets as discussed here the past few months. I'm not too surprised to see some of the weakness showing up in certain areas.

Investors can be a finicky bunch at times. We seem to forget the runaway train that tech, AI, and chips and such have been the past few years. They have simply been on fire (in a good way) during that time. The returns have been nothing short of magnificent in some of those assets.

I'm not suggesting an end to any of that, but it doesn't surprise me to see some cooling off. Maybe a temporary pause and a bit of a shake out. If you believe the fundamentals and management are still performing by your own measure and expectation, then it could be much to do about nothing.

We can get enamoured with outsized returns pretty easily and forget about the bumps in the road to glory. It happens. It's not some magical voodoo that causes it. Sure, the media plays right into it. Nothing new. They were part of the hype train back a few years ago on the other side of it. They play both sides of it if anyone hasn't figured that out yet.

Most here strike me as pretty knowledgeable about the companies you hold. The research and time you put into learning the details. Those decisions were not likely made as a result of some short term opportunity or investment decision. Although, there have probably been a few momentum type plays here from time to time.

I don't give much weight to the "markets are broken" or the "deck is always stacked against us" type of vibe or belief. Certainly, there are folks and things that offer an advantage, short term irrationality, and even shysters within the system. I don't disagree there, but I am not part of that type of environment or participate in that area.

Time, temperament, rational observation, contributions, and long term thinking. Decisions will be made along the journey, but most of those will have nothing to do with the ever present short term noise.

Investors are so pessimistic about AMD, the PE ratio is down to 151. AMD is going to dominate market when they can get the wafer allocations to produce the volume. My strike price for AMD is about half the current $450 price.

    PE for nVidia is 30.

Micron PE is 18.5 and they have enough capacity to double their wafer production within the next year. That doesn't mean they will double their profit. It probably means they will 10x their profit. Micron is the value monster in this discussion. If the price stays the same, they could have a PE of 2 before the end of 2027.

The market closed green today and that's about all we need to know for a day.

Some of the reporting companies got a nice little boost from their earnings.

Closing out July soon. Time is flying by this year.

When I bought Micron last year, I planned to hold it into late 26Q2 or early 26Q3. I would have held it until June or July, regardless of the stock price. The only thing that would have shaken me from that tree is a terrible management decision I felt had existential impact.

By mid 26Q2 (one year in), I knew I was going to hold MU significantly longer. The next decision point for MU is early 27Q1. The only thing that matters between now and then are the broad, corporate, decisions.

This post is about an alternate investing perspective. People like me almost don't exist but we absolutely do not care about the daily tick or current value. I don't even look at that holding in my account more than about once per month.

MU has been over $1200. Right now, it's around $800. That would be a huge problem for most people. For me, it is not.

I'm using MU as an example of how I feel a long term investor ought to think.

If your emotions ride on the daily tick, you do not have a long term perspective.

What a long term investor should be discussing and focusing on is the next 5 years. The heavy intellectual lifting is long complete on the stuff I purchased last year. The 1 year hold was decided before I purchased the company.

Well it looks like pretty much every individual holding I have is in correction. Just in time for earnings! Seems to be a trend.

I'm trying to present a point of view that might help young investors. It's an attempt to give back some of the wisdom in this thread.

My thoughts are organized into three thoughts, right now.

    1) Try not to forsake my long term stable portfolio (perhaps 1% mindshare)

    2) Try to make good decisions on exiting positions fueled by the AI bubble, as the AI bubble comes to an end

    3) Blue sky future investments

    Detail on 2:

    - I do not own AMD but, if I did, I would not be actively looking to exit the position

    - I don't own nVidia but it is 100% fueled by the AI bubble so long hold at your own risk

    - Micron is a hyperscaling company that I feel has some value so I plan to hold for, at least, 6 more months. They have some strategy I view as good and some as bad. Specifically, I'm concerned about their $100B New York fab build-out. Their scale is so huge that a $100B loss over 5 years is not sufficiently impactful to keep me away from this company. I may long hold this company but they are on a short leash.

    - For me, Samsung is a foundry with a future that is fueled on TSMC overflow. If TSMC were to have surplus wafer allocation, Samsung would starve. At some point, TSMC will catch up. I don't plan to long hold Samsung.

    - I'm not certain what drives the current market contraction. It could be pessimism or it could be an AI/hedge driven pump/dump cycle that is extracting wealth from the market. The later seems more plausible to me. Either way, I suspect the correction will be short term.

    Detail on 3:

The Ukrainian war will end soon (I predict less than 6 months) and I expect Ukraine will develop their oil and gas industries at best speed. There are a couple of small cap companies which operated in Ukraine before the war which could explode here. As I understand, their Ukraine assets are in an Urn on their mantle but they are undoubtedly watching for a way to re-enter Ukraine post-war.

I don't believe in the stock market, long term. I think our 150 years of certain gain era will end. Once AI takes over the world, things will look different. There are some bright spots here. It's time to start thinking about what comes next.

For those of you who own SpaceX, you may find it interesting GrokAI released an update two days ago that is leading enough inference metrics they can be considered the front of the pack, for the moment. I'm blown away by the new Grok.

I'm currently at -8.51% YTD. A month ago I was at +13.6% YTD.
I don't really care about this correction since I'm not investing a scared money.
