It's tricky because they only released the Ryzen 7 which is 8 core (like I said above) and 16 thread. So it's great for computing - like video editing and multi-tasking, but it didn't do as well as the ~$350 Intel (7700K) with 4 cores for 1080p gaming because in games it's usually the per core performance that matters and chips with high core counts don't do as well there, especially because they usually aren't clocked as high.

So gamers and stock holders seem to be upset for the wrong reason as it's comparing apples to oranges. The AMD for $499 really does outperform the $1000 Intel (6900K). The problem is that AMD hyped up the chips as gaming chips but then only put out the workstation version on launch! Had they released the Ryzen 5 with it we might be reading headlines about the $259 Ryzen 5 1600X outperforming the $350 Intel 7700K... Then no one would be disappointed.

I'd watch semiconductors in general (SOX, SMH), and NVDA in particular. Especially once they retake the 10 sma. Right now the sector is pulling back, but it's a strong sector as it combines technology and value (less so in AMD's case).

Get AMD as close to 12 as you can (still -8% from today). If it drops again on Monday then look at taking a partial position.

imo this is probably best for AMD to pull back as it looked to me like it was going for a blowoff top but now if it takes time to digest gainz then it can avoid danger.

If you own the stock then by the time Zacks say sell the stock it will be well past it sell date. When checking for exit points I use a combination of CCI and RSI maybe MACD, but I will move my stop loss up if the stock is rising, so it might just trigger and sell its self. The Zacks strong buys are a useful source of stocks for analysis though.

I'm waiting to see how it hits 12.24. However, unlike the previous reactions this one came off with volume; a change of character. Therefore I'd expect a trading range to develop with the 15.55 high representing the selling climax (SC) and the 14.27 swing being the Preliminary Supply (PSY) line. No matter where it stops, there should be a profitable range to trade.

As a Tech by Trade I can tell you that Most games in the past have been coded for single thread (Core), This is changing though....AMD put Ryzen out for the future ... Many of the NEW games coming out are now being coded for multi core.. Something that has not been done in the past.

And your right.. All they have to do is tweek the drivers for better 1080 performance... And then they will be on par with Intel or better in some cases... But that will depend on the game and the testing software used... What these so call reviewers DON'T tell you is in some bench mark testing software INTEL ALWAYS does better in others AMD Always does better. Again is all in the code... I know because I own A Computer Shop and we do these kind of testings all the time...

True they do.... But the growing popularity is high end graphics, MORE Realism, and detail in games, And as higher end monitors come down in price that can do higher resolutions you will see more converting over... People Just HATE having to by new monitors to match there new GPU's ... Many people have GPU's in the computers that are capable of much Higher End graphics.. BUT... there monitor is not up to the job... And again people hate buying new monitors if the one they have is working... Just for gaming.... But as AMD has said they were shooting for Higher End graphics users, and multi core gaming, which is the future... AMD is future proofing the chips... I personally think AMD underestimated the amount of gamers out there that are still gaming in 1080p.. And since the were under a deadline to get the chips out did not optimize the driver code for lower resolutions.... All they have to do is revise the driver code and put out a patch or update... And then have some new reviews done....

I don't know about you guys but I would like to see a review out there on say like photo or CAD or graphics editing, there is were you will see the multi cores shine....

True.... AMD might not like it but its known for gaming.... And when they put out a product they need to Market and Tune it as such......
The bigger money might be in servers etc... But when they come out and say that the new product is not doing good in gaming ITs a problem, most people do not understand the technical side of things and don't realize its nothing ..... Also the big boys were just looking for a reason to knock it down AMD Gave it to them on a silver platter.

Until we start seeing GOOD reviews on the other aspects of Ryzen.. its not going to be good.

Overclocking has yielded some new records!

    http://digiworthy.com/2017/03/05/ryzen-7-1800x-overclocked/
Ryzen 7 1800X Overclocked to 5.8GHz, Breaks Cinebench R15 World Record at 5.36GHz

It’s only been a couple of days since AMD launched their next-gen Ryzen 7 processors and overclockers are already trying to push the new chips to break world records. Recently, overclockers broke two frequency world records with the flagship Ryzen 7 1800X.

The AMD 1800X is an 8-core, 16-thread processor that runs at 3.6GHz base and 4.0GHz boost clocks. You can get an extra 100MHz out of the chip thanks to AMD’s Extended Frequency Range (XFR) technology that allows it to achieve frequencies above and beyond default boost clock speeds.

That's some impressive overclocking, although I'm not sure where to start with liquid nitrogen coolers ;)

Picked up some shares today around 12.80. Probably should have waited but it was a small position and I'm okay with holding for a while. Nice to see the rebound.

Interesting video here, this is what @TechGuy was talking about earlier. Running a game at 1080p vs higher res

On my personal gaming rig I run a Swifttech H220 X2 cooler I can over clock like crazy... Currently running a Intel 5820k 6 core.. But I am thinking on buying a Ryzen 1800...
I am one of those guys that LOVES to build High end PC's have been doing it for years.... Believe me when I say it just a matter of Lisa having her programmers add some code to the drivers for the lower end graphics... INTEL and AMD both up date drivers all the time.... Sometimes once a month.. They just underestimated how many are still using 1080p....

Heck, Most people if they have to buy a new cpu and a new motherboard most don't have the cash or want to spend for a high end monitor, or if they do it later down the road. Like When they update there GPU.... Vega anyone? lol.....

Lol .. so that why I have like 20 monitors around here.... and only 4 of them are being used... for personal use.... lol....
