Is anyone interested in Western Canadian separation? Premier Danielle Smith made an historic speech this afternoon that was extremely aggressive, by peace time standards. It included timelines and demands. She also cited a possible referendum in 2026. Interestingly, the S&P/TSX appears to have been unaffected. It's my belief that $CAD will take a hit if there is a referendum, regardless the outcome. Long term, $CAD will likely take less of a hit if a separation referendum fails.
You know, I haven't followed too much of anything to the north of us. I think this has been an issue brought up previously....or seems I have read about it before. I can't comment too much about it, at least in a productive way. Although, I guess there are "issues" everywhere and not just what we complain about here in the US. I think most of us, including our neighbors to the north, sometimes get pulled into not realizing how well most of us have it. When you look around the world and see some of the other things people are having to deal with, it kind of reshapes your perspective. We raise hell about all sorts of things that are of little significance. If we were suddenly thrust into some of those situations we would likely promise to never make a peep to come back home. That offers no input into your question, but I just hate to see one of your posts just hanging there.
Wow, didn't know that this was on the table. My gut tells me that this will amount to nothing. Separatist movements are very loud but not in fact popular. Plus, when push comes to shove, status quo bias will take root.
