Here's the horses for the 142nd Kentucky Derby Some clown named his horse Suddenbreakingnews. Who makes a 3 word name into one long word? Destin and Majesto don't sound like they should be racing. Majesto sounds like a magician you get at your 7 year old's birthday party, and Destin is more or less a stripper's name. I am fond of Gun Runner and Exaggerator though. I really really really really like Exaggerator.
There's a horse named "Cloud Computing" running in this week's Preakness, the 2nd leg of the Triple Crown.

Right now my favorite names are "Spinoff" and "Bodexpress" a distant second. "Gray Magician" is nice, I guess Gray Wizard was already taken. What kind of names are "Roadster" and "Country House"? People with buyer's remorse, like oh why'd I spend millions of dollars on a horse when I could have bought a nice ______. "By My Standards" would be a pretty good name for a 90's/00's emo band. I think the top 3 horses by earnings so far are "Game Winner" at 5-1, "Plus Que Parfait" at 30-1, and "Long Range Toddy" at 30-1.
a few years ago, I co-wrote, produced and acted in a short film (link below) using the title "hidden jim", an obvious play on words for hidden gem. any horses out there with that name, @anotherdevilsadvocate?
I like that name, Hidden Jim. I found something called equibase, that I'm going to assume is comprehensive, and it's looking like that name hasn't been used. I've got to say I liked that short too. Even the music. The guy was eating sardines...I recently read about "Trading Sardines", which I'm going to copy here because the place where I read them from changes its site every 2 weeks and then this would be gone to me. "While gold was first discovered in Alaska during the 1870s, the 1890s have come to be known as the Yukon-Klondike Gold Rush days, as thousands of rugged individuals swarmed to the northern climes to find fortune and glory. Unsurprisingly, during the winter of 1896-97 the Alaskan ports were frozen solid and therefore closed to all shipping traffic. Food became very scarce and very expensive since new supplies had to be brought in over land at great hardship. Reportedly, a can of sardines that had cost $0.10 in New York could be priced at 10 times that amount by the time it reached the gold miners in Alaska. Still, there was great demand even at such inflated prices. For instance, in one remote mining town the price of a can of sardines was sold at rapidly escalating prices from $10.00, to $30.00, then $50.00. Finally, one desperately hungry miner paid $100.00 for a can of the highly sought after sardines. He took it back to his room to eat. He opened it. To his amazement he discovered the sardines were rotten. Angered, he found the person who sold him the tin and confronted him with the rotten evidence. The seller was amazed and shouted, 'You mean you actually opened that can of sardines? You fool; those were trading sardines, NOT eating sardines!'” ... Anonymous
Thanks for watching, giving feedback and the sardine story, @anotherdevilsadvocate . The music was done by a band called "The Harvest" whose lead singer is my second cousin. They are based out of Myrtle Beach, SC. The guy eating the sardines is yours truly.
I have played horses for forty years, seen it all, every angle, mucked stalls as a kid at the local racetrack, sent bets in with my uncle before I was eighteen, been to many tracks all across the country, I can read a racing form like you fine people read a stock chart. I recently backed away a bit from betting on horses and shortly thereafter I started studying the stock market. If anyone here is a fan of horse racing, or if any are interested, please feel free to chat me up in this thread. I still get info on racing and I do occasionally bet, but my action is much, much lighter than it was when I was younger.
It's that time again. ------- 2020 Kentucky Derby odds Tiz the Law 5-8 Honor A.P. 5-1 Authentic 8-1 Thousand Words 12-1 Ny Traffic 20-1 Enforceable 25-1 Max Player 30-1 Sole Volante 35-1 Money Moves 40-1 Attachment Rate 40-1 South Bend 50-1 Storm the Court 60-1 Major Fed 60-1 Finnick the Fierce 85-1 Necker Island 85-1 Mr Big News 100-1 Winning Impression 100-1
My favorite name there is Major Fed, I like to imagine that is named after the Federal Reserve or maybe more specifically the chairman of the Fed. Also chuckled at Storm the Court. Since Tiz the Law is the big favorite, we got to play with that name. I come up with a few anagrams: Hazel Twit White Zalt, which is definitely a nu metal name a la Korn, Limp Bizkit, Puddle of Mudd, etc. Latte Whiz Zit Wealth Lt. Wheatiz and of course, Whale Titz. I was curious about Necker Island so I went to wikipedia. Did you know there are 2 different Necker Islands, in different oceans and named after different people? The one in the British Virgin Islands is owned by Richard Branson (the guy who is running SPCE, among other things), and they do the Extreme Tech Challenge there, "one of the largest" technology competitions in the world.
My horse flipped (see video) and was scratched but another Bob Baffert trained horse "Authentic" did upset the favorite.
I grew up around the tracks. Loved going as a kid. Best part was seeing the horses in the paddock before the race. As a teenager, I discovered that they didn't check ID for alcohol......Or betting. I remember being in high school, going on dates to the track, and not having any idea of how to bet, but still betting. Same way I buy stocks. I have no idea if the stock will make money. I just buy. On a side note, I soon discovered that my neighborhood bars, discos downtown, and casinos in Reno didn't check ID either. Imagine being in high school, taking a girl across state lines to Reno, NV for the weekend....... Casinos, Night Clubs, Legal Brothels, only a teenager. Girls in high school gossip, word got around fast, and there were some angry fathers.
I'm going with Medina Spirit for the win. Bob Baffert trainer.
