Congrats to @emmett kelly the Stockaholics Daily Stock Pick Winner for (1/10)!

*Link to Stockaholics Daily Stock Picking Challenge Thread for (1/10)*

On to the next! The Stockaholics Daily Stock Picking Challenge for (1/11) starts at the opening bell on Friday, January 11th, 2019.

If you want to be eligible to participate in the daily challenge here is what you need to do (REQUIRED!):
    • 1.) Post 1 ticker (ex. AAPL = Apple)
    • 2.) Choose either Long or Short (Obviously LONG = if you think it will go up ... or SHORT = if you think it will go down)
    • 3.) Your pick MUST be at least $2 at the previous day's closing price at the bare minimum! If you pick something that is under $2 then your pick will not count, and you will not be entered into the daily stock picking challenge!
Challenge Rules (PLEASE READ THESE AND FOLLOW THEM!):
    • 1.) No OTC or IPOs.
    • 2.) No Futures, Forex, Indexes stuff like that... Equities ONLY that trade on the U.S. Stock Exchange!
    • 3.) If you don't post both the ticker AND the direction (LONG/SHORT) you won't be added to the list of contestants for the daily stock picking challenge!
    • 4.) You cannot duplicate someone's exact pick!
    • 5.) Picks absolutely MUST be posted in here before 4AM eastern time the day of the contest!
    • 6.) You are NOT allowed to pick any leveraged ETFs/ETNs (2x/3x). If you choose one, it will not count. If incorrect picks go un-noticed, you risk your position being forfeited!
    • 7.) RATIONALE - You may post up a rationale (either technical or fundamental) for your pick but it is not required. This is optional for everyone. Members who do post up a rationale for their pick will receive an additional 2 points in the members leaderboard.
    • 8.) Please DO NOT EDIT your original post with your pick! If you absolutely must choose another pick, please use a separate post and state that you are changing your original pick to something else!
    • 9.) You may choose to close out your pick at any time during the trading day. PLEASE POST YOUR OWN CLOSING PRICE! We will be using the intraday 1 minute closing price using the time stamp of your post on Stockaholics for when you closed out your pick. You will need to state the price & the time of when you closed out. I will be confirming that your closing price is correct by looking at the 1 min. intraday chart. If it is not correct, I will then post up your correct price and input that into the live spreadsheet.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask, and if anyone sees someone else messing up, please correct them. Also, please look at your positions after I post the spreadsheets. I try to catch mistakes, in and out of my control, but need your help in making sure the information is accurate.

Remember...the challenge starts at the opening bell on Friday, January 11th!

Stockaholics wins the daily poll tally on Thursday! Credit goes to the UP votes!

    Post your Vote!

    Notes/Guidelines:
    1) For purpose of the spreadsheet record flat is currently based on +/-0.15% or less. Of course, everyone can define flat any way they choose.
    2) Up, Flat, or Down must be clearly specified in a post in order to be listed in the spreadsheet, otherwise it'll be assumed that post was not intended to be a part of the official record.
    3) It's OK to post your vote if you missed the deadline after the poll has expired and if the market has not really moved that much or especially if your late vote is opposite or flat of the S&P futures ATM. It will be up to my discretion and obviously, the more active voters will be given more leeway.
    4) Starting and ending points based on official daily ending close of the market.
    5) The primary goal of this game is to track our performance. You can consider it a contest or as a personal critiquing tool to better ones performance

    And so it continues...

Gotta say, this is one of my longest daily market direction calling win streaks that I can remember in recent memory (maybe ever?). 7 in a row, and what a time for it to come right at the start of the new year haha. Crazy! :p

    Thank you @stock1234 :D

I almost want to keep totally quiet about this streak now, as to not jinx it haha!

Not to get lost in my winning streak here, but I think some worthy mentions also go out to the next longest active daily winning streaks.

They are the following with an active 4 in a row win streak right now:

    @snuffalchewy
    @Lico Inv
    @emmett kelly

As for the next best overall yearly % leader that would go to @Lico Inv.

In addition to his current 4 day win streak, he's only got 1 wrong this year. Not too shabby there. ;)

Oh, and in case any of you missed the discussion on Thursday's thread, I am testing out a new field in the Google Form for market direction & rationale.

I won't copy and paste everything over from there to here, but in short, I am just giving this a quick 1-day trial run for this contest only.

However, I don't really think I am going to actually use with this new format, since having market direction voting done via the google forms will allow people to get lazy and not post their market direction votes on the threads which I personally really hate, since the threads will not get bumped to the top since we'll get no replies on the threads, thus we lose participation as people will not see the threads...

Anyway, I just wanted to simply test run this for Friday only to see how it goes.

Clicking in a market direction on the google form is "required", but like the stock pick, the rationale is optional.

whelp, i am really going out on a serious limb here with my perfect winning streak to start this 2019 on the line here...but i just gotta do this. :p

    market - down

i'm not sure if we've had a perfect 5 for 5 on up days on an entire trading week in the SPX...they're pretty rare.

    i'm betting it doesn't happen tomorrow. :p

Hey everyone, upon further review I have decided that I will just go ahead with the implementation of the new "market direction & rationale" field in the forms, and spreadsheets for all of our contest formats effective pronto.

I've been getting some good feedback about the new field for this test run, so I'm willing to give this a run for the foreseeable future.

What I've done here is just simple added this line of text in the Google form "rules" at the top.

As stated, "Market direction vote must be posted on the thread!", I just want to make it clear to everyone that while it is convenient to be able to cast your market direction votes on the forms now, remember that the votes don't actually count and get carried over to the members voting record spreadsheet unless they are also posted on the thread. They will only show up on the actual stock picking contest spreadsheet. So, the votes still do need to get added "manually" to my members voting record spreadsheet.

Also, as I had posted on Thursday's thread, the 3 main reasons why it's necessary to have votes posted on the threads are the following-
    • 1) It gives these threads a bump to the top so people don't miss seeing the thread.
    • 2) I can give out karma credit (aka, "likes" here on Stockaholics) at the end of each market day to all the winning calls.
    • 3) It's just a lot easier for me to add members votes to my members voting record spreadsheet when I can see the votes "posted" on the thread, as opposed to clicking the votes on the poll at the top to see them, since I am manually adding all the votes in on my spreadsheet.
Hopefully with this new addition of the market direction field on the Google Form from here on out, everyone will still continue to post their market direction votes on the threads as well. :)

So far it looks like the new fields are working flawlessly on this test run here. :D

Oh and just in case that wasn't "enough", I've also added this line of text in bold blue underline just below the Google Form button link.

    But wait! There's more...

I didn't realize that when you add a new title and description field in the Google Form that it highlights the text for you in the form.

I think this is pretty neat. Now it's posted right there on the actual form just above the submit button, that clearly states that market direction votes are required to be posted on the thread in order to be added to the members voting record spreadsheet. Can't get any clearer than this right. :p

I just want to confirm with the rest of you guys that y'alls are cool with these new changes to the forms and sheets (and yes, I know I said I wasn't going to be making any further changes to the forms and sheets once we officially got into the new year, but this one I honestly could not resist. Sorry! :p).

Here is my final version of how this will look on the first posts of these threads from next week onward.

I tinkered around with the font just a bit and made it a slight bit larger, and in red instead of blue. Should stand out a little more this way, no?

And here is how the announcement in the blue box just below the rationale field looks-

    How is that looking now?

Again, the notice is just there to remind people that in order for market direction votes to actually count and get added to the members voting record spreadsheet, they also need to be POSTED on the threads as well.

I know I sound like a broken record to make this point, but I wanna make sure I'm hammering that point home for everyone.

Really do not want people getting lazy with the form and just thinking that clicking in their market direction vote on the form is enough.

It's a requirement to have it posted on the threads as well in order for it to be added to the members voting record spreadsheet. ;)
