Well, I tried this before but fell off the cliff. Previously I was just trading paper, so I think I lost interest in keeping up with tracking it. In the last 6-8 months I've transitioned fully into trading out of my savings account and 401K. I'll track those results here. Trying to keep it "similar" in style to @Tiptopptrader's journal as I think a lot of people can appreciate how well he keeps everyone updated on his picks as a whole in his journal, while discussing each pick in it's respective thread. Let me know if you have any suggestions for a better way to format this if you have one, or if you have any questions about anything at any point. Here's where I stand with my LONG positions that are open today: And I only have one SHORT position open right now:
Currently watching just a few for entries. This list fluctuates regularly, and I'll try to update this thread AND the respective threads when I see something I like somewhere that I'm waiting for an entry.
Anyone who's looking closely will probably notice I have a few positions that are open that are below my stop (or above in a SHORT position). The reason for this is that I still believe in the trade in most cases and am not willing to call it quits on them yet. Call it not sticking to the trading plan, and you could very well end up being right, but I'll take my chances sometimes. Other times I will call it quits and get out when I told myself I would.
No changes in the portfolio today, though I'm looking to get out of AVXS soon. Added SID to the watchlist. AMD has continued the run up and closed well off the day's highs. Lots of good news expected from AMD this week. Lots of losers today, but thankfully my biggest position (AMD) and one of my larger plays (ATVI) were both up. LONGS SHORTS
Cut the cord on AVXS today at 49.01, posted my thoughts on it in the AVXS thread - http://stockaholics.net/threads/avxs-avexis-inc.2842/
Not the best of weeks, but a few positions started heading further in the right direction LONGS SHORTS
Well it's been a bit since I updated, not much has changed though. I took the last week or two off for the holiday season and didn't touch much, just monitored from my phone. Will try to keep this more updated a lot more regularly this year, especially since I'm on a normal work schedule for the next 6 months. Lots of current losers that I'll be cutting losses on soon if they don't turn around. I'm fairly bearish for January/1st quarter and the swearing in of the new president. LONGS SHORTS
Closed my positions in AMH yesterday, and F and BSFT today. F resulted in a 10.67% gain (including divis), and BSFT resulted in a 1.30% gain. AMH was a 3.17% gain. Current positions still open, which I'm hoping to get most closed within the next two weeks before Trump takes over. LONGS SHORTS
Sold my position in ATVI today, though it appears to have broken through the resistance at the 50MA that I was worried about when I decided to close the position. WYNN is sitting at resistance of the 200MA and the upper BB as well as approaching overbought levels. I hope to close it soon, but it will probably be ahead of my target of ~$105. The Brazilian stocks - BBD and SID had good days and are getting closer to profit-taking levels. The rest were mostly green but relatively flat. My short position in GME was a loser today when it bounced off the 50MA and lower BB, but the position is still up a little over 0.5%. Think it's going to take a small market down-turn to break through support and make this a winner. We'll see if that happens in the next couple weeks like I'm expecting. LONGS SHORTS
Sold off quite a bit today ahead of the next few weeks which I think will be pretty volatile to the downside due to the presidential swap and probably negative news about the whole situation. All sales were for profits! In terms of remaining open positions, I'll be holding AMD through earnings, hoping for positive news so I can unload it before the inauguration a few days later. If the market dips like I expect, I'll jump right back in a week or two later. I'm hoping UA can run up to about $28 so I can unload it, CDTI is still a small gamble play that I'll probably just bag hold for a bit, and WYNN should be going up as the news the last few days around gaming was good. GME is a short position, and since I think the market is headed down, I have no reason to sell it yet. I'm pessimistic on the company as a whole for the long-term. LONG SHORTS
Woah, haven't updated this lately. I regularly post in the threads of the stocks I'm invested in and watching, but forget to update this overall summary. I'm fairly liquid right now. Sold CDTI yesterday - it was a small gamble play that I held on to and it didn't play out like I expected it to, but got a good bounce so I sold it for over 15%. AMD ran up quite a bit earlier this week, but gave back a lot yesterday as it looked promising at the open. Would like to dumb UA soon as it didn't act like I wanted it to when I bought in, and I've been bag-holding since. It hasn't gone up with the market, so I think it's time to move on and look for greener pastures. Pretty much just waiting for a decent market pullback to get back in now that the inauguration is over. I was right about the dip in mid-January, but didn't expect it to end THIS quickly. Probably off in my thinking by about a week or two. LONGS SHORTS
Since my last update, we sold WYNN on Friday at $103.70 for a 17.43% profit. Also took a short position in XRX today at $6.92. Expecting an earnings miss tomorrow before the open. AMD reports earnings tomorrow after hours. UA reports earnings tomorrow before the open. Considering how few positions I have open right now, I'm amazed how many earnings reports I have going tomorrow. Could be a really good or really bad day. We just closed a whole bunch of positions the last few weeks, almost all for decent profits. Good start to the year up nearly 6% in the 401K. LONGS SHORTS
