Energous Corporation engages in the development of a wire-free charging system. Its technology could enable wire-free charging of electronic devices at a distance. The company is developing WattUp, a wire-free charging technology that charges electronic devices by surrounding them with a contained three dimensional radio frequency energy pocket. The company was formerly known as DvineWave Inc. and changed its name to Energous Corporation in January 2014. Energous Corporation was founded in 2012 and is headquartered in San Jose, California.
This had been on a tear. Many are thinking AAPL could be using their technology in the near future. Time will tell.
This may be fueling to move back upward. APPLE REPORTEDLY WORKS WITH ENERGOUS FOR WIRELESS CHARGING OF FUTURE IPHONE Posted: Sep 15 2016, 1:11pm CDT | by Luigi Lugmayr, Updated: Sep 15 2016, 1:15pm CDT, in News | Apple Evan Blass spots reference to Apple in Energous public filing. The iPhone 7 is not supporting wireless charging. Samsung is offering wireless charging in the last two generations of the Galaxy smartphone line. Apple is offering wireless charging on the Apple Watch, but stays away from it in the iPhone. This does not mean that Apple is not working on wireless charging. Apparently Apple wants to leap to the next generation of wireless charging. Wireless charging over distance might be the goal. Evan Blass over at VentureBeat spotted a reference to Apple in public filings of wireless charging startup Energous. The company develops WattsUp, a wireless charging solution that works over a distance. From the Energous website: "Energous Corporation has developed WattUp, a groundbreaking RF-based charging technology that will fundamentally change the way you think about charging your portable electronic devices. The WattUp wire-free charging system delivers energy over the air in your home, office, car or practically any other space you can imagine via a contained energy pocket. Mobile, wire-free power management means freedom from cords or stationary charging pads, and the potential freedom from worrying about running out of battery life altogether." The problem with transmitting power over a distance is efficiency. A lot of energy is lost on the way. A solution that is efficient is a hard problem to solve. Even if there is a reference to Apple in the public filings it does not mean that Energous technology will be used in an upcoming iPhone. Evan Blass spotted a reference to Apple compliance testing in the list of industry certifications published in Energous filings with the SEC. The Energous stock (NASDAQ: WATT) has already spiked because of the potential Apple partnership by 3% as of the time of writing.
same old speculation, they are not partnered with Apple, Apple would buy them out if they wanted the tech, it's just not good enough
I agree. However, maybe Apple is waiting for all the kinks to get worked out. Of course Apple would want a finished project, not R&D. It's all speculation that drove this company with no sales up from $5 to $20.
This one near 52 week low. Over the past year in seemed to bounce from the $12s. How low will it go before recovery?
If it is what i think it is, the stock should be on fire tomday opening. I guess $20 is a fair expectation for open, $30+ for close.
As a pioneer in wireless charging, Energous has a significant long-term potential. However, the mid-term potential looks a little less promising. Short-sellers doubt that Apple will ever use Energous' wireless charging technology. However, VentureBeat reported that Energous and Apple have been working together since 2014.
