What's the point of diversification if the entire market can crash?

I learned the real hard way that penny stocks are extremely risky but I prefer having all of one stock. It's like that +10% -10% overnight return is too exciting. Can someone give me a view on why diversification is good or nah? Bad news stories seem to not make a stock crash very hard unless if it's like a penny stock or something.
