Hello, I am a newbie who is trying to learn basics of investing. While we can get outstanding shares from any website, I would like to know where are they mentioned in balance sheet. For example, Walmart's (WMT) balance sheet for the quarter ending Oct 2019 gives its common stock as 284m, preferred stock as 0, treasury stock as 0. So I would think that outstanding stocks of Walmart are 284m. But the financial websites show the outstanding stocks to be 2.861b. What am I missing? I would appreciate if anyone please help.
