WXYZ , were you living in Seattle at the time ? I know that as a Seattleite, MSFT was in most local investor portfolio's , to one degree or another, and I concur, those splits WERE LIFE CHANGING !!! It was the first time I remember thinking , WOOW , This could be HUGE , and for a lot of people in Seattle it was. Back then most of us knew someone that worked at Microsoft. And a little bit of Seattle History, Since when it was starting up bonusses etc. were paid in Microsoft stock, and there were a lot of people that all of a sudden were moving to nicer neighborhoods. Buying new car's etc.
We used to call them the "Microsoft Millionaire's"

Keep in mind Strathmore....I dont know a single person in my life or on the perimeter of my life that did what we did in business or investing. A very RARE thing.

For that to happen to anyone there has to be a large amount of....LUCK. At any of the critical turning points we faced in our earlier life it could have gone down a very different path.

BUT.......looking back at College, sports, music, investing, business.....success happened in spite of not being the smartest or the most talented.

I know what you mean about MSFT millionaires. When I lived in that CEO neighborhood there was a family two houses down from us where the father....had a Microsoft employee number under 100. They had insane money by the late 1990's....even though he was not a super high level guy at the company.

LOL...we bought a lake cabin......they bought an entire lake and resort...just for their family. CRAZY STUFF.

Living there gave me great awareness of

    SBUX
    NKE
    COST
    MSFT
    HD

And probably some others i am not thinking of right now.

Moved enough NVDA to buy 4 additional MSFT shares at -$59 today in my ROTH account. Will be buying back the NVDA shares over the next 2 weeks in my weekly deposits. I think I will end up happy.

Again, I concur, being at the right place, in the right city, making the life choices I did, to have the cash to invest at a very young age (I started working on my Dad's job sites as a child, my mom would drop me off after school got out, and I would work with my Dad, then we would drive home at the end of the day) Taking a different turn or two may have resulted in an entirely different outcome.
BUT , as stated, LUCK probably had more to do with it than anything, I do not posses a 160 IQ, I had a high drive for success, and used to work 50 to 60 hours a week. I posses a logical mind, and was disciplined enough to live within my means for many years, so as to invest as much money as possible.

Just one more morsel of wisdom I learned along the way, Don't spend ALL your time "Swinging for the Fences" "Trying to hit a Home Run" I spent about 10 years LOOKING for that next Microsoft, I figured I had hit it out of the park twice (the first time was DUMB BLIND LUCK, the first stock I picked was EMM, a small company in California "Electronic Memory and Magnetics" I knew nothing of them, went big !! ) in my investing career why not again ? I spent way too much time and money on:
    Penny Stocks
    Hot Tips
The newest This or that Companies
I wasted a lot of time and MONEY trying to hit another "Home Run"
But I went bust 24 times out of 25 , It just didn't work for me, I wasn't really growing my money
Great companies that have solid numbers that's what works for me.
OK WXYZ the soapbox is all yours

Some good life lessons above from oldmanram.

One thing we both had in common.....I was also EXTREMELY......I mean EXTREMELY......driven in everything I did.....and also have a very clinical mind.

Well we are now done with the first part of big tech earnings. For the most part great earnings reports.....but yes.....it was a tree falling in the woods. No one was there to hear it....so it made no noise.

Another waste for the markets......as good fundamental business results are once again IGNORED or worse punished.

We will see the....rest of the story....next week.

Here is the ACTUAL bubble......as the media cheer-leads it all with breathless daily coverage. What goes up can and will come down. BUT...I dont think this little run up is over yet.

Gold falls to $5,000, silver tumbles 13% as precious metals rally come to a halt

    https://finance.yahoo.com/news/gold...us-metals-rally-come-to-a-halt-134413595.html

Kind of WEIRD to see....gold at $5000 and silver at $100.....described as a....."tumble". Those are still EXTREME high prices.

I would actually say the markets are down today because the markets simply dont care about anything today since the big tech earnings this week are done. BUT.......for whatever short term reason....here are the markets today.

Dow, S&P 500, Nasdaq fall as Wall Street digests Warsh as Trump's Fed pick

    https://finance.yahoo.com/news/live...gests-warsh-as-trumps-fed-pick-234128307.html

I call total BS on the WARSH connection to the market today.....he is a totally known person and has been on the list for months. He is also probably the LEAST controversial pick. I LOVE how every single day......''someone"....some unknown person....simply picks what the market media-line of the day will be......and everyone jumps on board and runs with it. It is all simply......BS.

BUT...if you live under a rock...here you go.

    Who is Kevin Warsh?

    https://finance.yahoo.com/news/kevin-warsh-141750751.html

Whats new......an ELITE educated person.....a BILLIONAIRE by marriage......a former FED member....a former investment banker at JP Morgan.

I have SIGNIFICANT DOUBTS about this pick. He will be the typical Washington insider at the FED. I NEVER trust a Washington insider....that has "reinvented" themself. Once he is in we will see the real Warsh.....as the "reinvention" quickly disappears.

    BUT.......whatever.

With only a single green stock early in the day....AMZN....I am starting out in a hole. Probably a harbinger for the close of the day and perhaps the month for my portfolio.

I am looking like I will close out January with either a slight loss or a slight gain. Basically FLAT and MEANINGLESS.
