Was hoping to be up a few more % heading into earnings today after the close. Was hoping to lock up a little more profit before selling some before earnings today. Oh well, guess I'm going to hold it all since it's currently down 4%. I'll probably regret it, but such is life.
Beat on the top and bottom line, and guidance was up compared to analyst estimates as well. As usual, earnings beats mean nothing for AMD. Seems like this every quarter. Beat estimates, big move down. AMD falls despite beating Q4 estimates Source: https://www.cnbc.com/2018/01/30/amd-earnings-q4-2017.html
Conference call for earnings can be heard here. Hopefully the normal trend continues here: Lisa Su speaks, stock price goes up https://edge.media-server.com/m6/p/mjsqz7is
Up 6% on the day so far. Man some people got a real good deal when it dropped in the early after hours yesterday to $12 after posting a top and bottom line beat, and increased forward guidance. Baffling how it dropped 7% immediately after the results were posted.
GPUs cant stay on the shelves for more than 2min, every place that has them gets sold out in minutes.
I love it when a plan comes together----The A Team's Colonel Hannibal Smith--- The count from the trading range that went back to 2008 and the count from the range beginning the end of February 2017 now agree. Prepare for mark-up.
Cryotocurrencies will see new highs this year and when prices start recovering for Cryptocurrencies demand will go back up for the AMD cards.
Looks like the mid-term trend (50MA) started increasing again in early January this year. The long-term trend (200MA) has also appeared to flatten the last few weeks and start heading back up slowly. I'm sure both will act as resistance, though I'm not sure how long it will take to break through them. As heavily as AMD is traded, and being heavily invested in it for the last 2 years, I have seen some very big moves in very short time-frames. My current target to sell a decent sized portion of my holdings is in the $14's. I'm sure for the foreseeable future I will be holding some of this long-term, and trading the dips ($10-$14 range currently...). Admittedly though, I do need to scale a decent amount of my holdings out of this position. It is abnormally large and against my trading rules. Big swings are painful, and overly exciting.
