The rally has currently pushed AMD up and more out of the Pennant.

AMD’s upcoming server side processor codename has been revealed
Graphics processors are not the only segment Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) is currently working on. The company is hard at prepping the launch of its highly-anticipated Zen-based microprocessors that are holding much potential and could finally give longtime rival Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) a run for its money.

While we know AMD’s Zen-based desktop processors and APUs are codenamed “Summit Ridge” and “Bristol Ridge,” respectively, we have now learned about server lineup. “Naples” was reported to be the codename for the 32-core version and “Snowy Owl” is apparently the codename for 16-core version, both processors will be new additions to AMD’s Opteron lineup.

According to the information provided by Fudzilla, Snowy Owl’s 16 cores will make up for a total of 32 threads. The processor will be divided in two Zeppelin clusters. Each of the 16 Zen cores have a dedicated L2 cache memory of 512KB, and four cores have access to L3 memory of 8MB. So each Zeppelin cluster of 8 cores has a total of 4MB of L2 cache and 16MB of L3 cache.

So the complete outlook of Snowy Owl represents a processor with 16 cores, 32 threads, 8MB of L2 cache and 32MB of L3 cache.

The TDP of Snowy Owl is less than 100W. Zen-based processors will be built on 14nm manufacturing process that will lead to lower consumption. AMD’s Opteron is in direct competition with Intel’s Xeon processors which are also aimed at servers.

Zen is AMD’s bet to bring big performance improvements to its microprocessor lineup. Zen was built from the ground up to deliver faster core performance and better multithreading. Single core performance has always had one major area where AMD’s otherwise great value for money processors ended up outperformed by Intel’s Core series, but that is likely to change with Zen. AMD’s John Taylor said in a statement that AMD is “far closer to Intel than ever before.”

New Doom update adds Vulkan support, AMD claims substantial performance boost

According to AMD, Doom now takes advantage of asynchronous compute and shader intrinsics that allow the game engine to directly access hardware (a video describing how this works is embedded above). It’s not surprising to see AMD picking up significant gains in Vulkan; the new API is a descendent from AMD’s Mantle and functionally equivalent to DirectX 12.

    doom-spec.png
According to AMD, the RX 480 is up to 27% faster in 1080p when using Vulkan and 23% faster in 1440p. The fine print attached to those figures states:

Testing conducted by AMD Performance Labs as of July 6th, 2016 on the AMD Radeon RX 480, on a test system comprising Intel i7 5960X CPU, 16GB DDR4-2666 MHz system memory, Radeon Software Crimson Edition driver 16.7.1 and Windows 10 x64 using the game DOOM on the ultra preset. PC manufacturers may vary configurations, yielding different results. At 1920×1080, Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.1 running DOOM OpenGL scored 106.40 and Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.1 running DOOM Vulkan scored 135.65 on AMD Radeon RX 480, which is 27.5% faster performance…. At 2560×1440, Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.1 running DOOM OpenGL scored 68.51 and Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.1 running DOOM Vulkan scored 84.34 on AMD Radeon RX 480, which is 23.1% faster performance.

I got a partial fill @.11 trading off my cell but you might have got them for .12, but if it breaks $6 a few cents won't really matter much anyway. AMD has these negative nancy sites like motley fool trying to drive the price down. I won't even bother reading their propaganda.

Getting to the trading day the price was pushed down right in the middle of the pennant again on lower volume than it went up on Friday. As yu can see the pennant is getting tighter and in the near term it should pop break to the upside or downside. Ideally I would like to see the price at 5.30 or higher prior to earnings without being overbought. This would give us 8 days after earnings to gain +13% to be in the money on the July 29th $6 calls. So far Lisa Su has delivered, let's hope she pulls out another fact contract, increased market share and a good projection on sales and such

You are correct, I got them for .12. :)

The article from Motley Fool did not have any substance behind it, as AMD released the working driver was on 7/7/2016.

AMD confirms Radeon RX 470 and RX 460 specifications

Yesterday AMD held a special launch event in Australia, where the company announced Radeon RX 400 series.

    AMD Radeon RX 470

AMD confirmed that RX 470 will use the same blower type cooler as RX 480. While AMD partners will have the option to make 8GB cards, reference design arrives with 4GB GDDR5. Just as RX 480, RX 470 will use full 256-bit interface. More importantly AMD finally confirmed that RX 470 has 32 Compute Units, which means 2048 Stream Processors.

The exact launch date of RX 470 was not yet confirmed. However according to my sources, plan was to launch RX 470 end of this month, with availability planned for early August. Hopefully it will not be delayed.

    AMD Radeon RX 460

Moving on to e-sports oriented GPU, which is Polaris 11. The Radeon RX 460 features 14 Compute Units with 896 Stream Processors total. Reference design is equipped with 2GB GDDR5 memory and 128-bit interface.

Interestingly, new presentation shows different design of RX 460, which looks quite similar to R9 Nano’s.

Level 2 moving fast now with big trades going at the ask. Is this the breakout we have been waiting on? If it can close significantly above the pennant the answer is probably yes.I can not find any pertinent news.

AMD Radeon RX 480 Is Reason To Buy Midrange Desktop PC

Most knowledge workers are now mobile with high-end smartphones and “good enough” notebooks and tablets. The same can be said for many consumers. With the advent of Wi-Fi, there has been no compelling reason to own a desktop PC. However, the AMD’s Radeon RX 480 once again offers a compelling reason to own a desktop PC for those interested in a wide range of applications ranging from photo and video editing to gaming to VR, and for a reasonable cost.

The Radeon RX 480 leverages AMD’s new Polaris graphics processing unit (GPU) architecture (code named “Fiji” while under development), which enables high performance video and graphics, as well as offloading sophisticated compute tasks from the PC’s central processor unit (CPU). Compute offload is enabled by application processing interfaces (APIs) such as Microsoft Windows DirectX, “OpenCL” and by OpenCL’s successor “Vulkan”. The Radeon RX 480 is available for only US$240 for a full-sized PC add-in card. Additional lower-cost graphics cards leveraging the Polaris GPU architecture will be available later this year.

While most reviews of the RX 480 are aimed at its core audience – PC gamers – we choose to target more general consumer oriented applications, including virtual reality (VR) and content creation, such as photo and video editing.

As a side note, some RX 480 customers reported power management issues just before this article was scheduled to publish last week. We (TIRIAS Research) postponed publishing until AMD posted new Windows 10 drivers, which they did on July 7. We conducted tests with the new “compatibility” toggle set to ‘On.’ The RX 480 card appears to draw about five watts less power when under stress in this mode. Benchmark results were slightly different – some a little slower, some a little faster – but not different enough to materially affect our conclusions.

    Testing The Radeon RX 480

For under $1,400 (pre-tax) we assembled a test system using the following:

    • An Intel Core i7-6700K 4GHz quad-core processor (~$350)
    • An aggressive PC gaming motherboard (~$190)
    • A large processor cooler (~$55) and thermal compound (~$9)
    • 32GB of fast DDR4-2133 main memory (~$185)
    • 256GB Pro solid-state drive (SSD) (~$140)
    • Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64-bit OEM edition ($125)
    • A 1,000W (one kilowatt) power supply (~$180)
    • An extreme gamer “case” that exposes all of the components for easy access (~$150)
    ........

Trading again to a slight upside of the Pennant about the same volume as yesterday. The test will be how AMD responds in the next market or sector pullback that we are due for.

AMD Radeon RX 470 and RX 460 Specifications Confirmed
by btarunr Monday, July 11th 2016 21:37 Discuss (44 Comments)
AMD confirmed specifications of its second and third "Polaris" architecture graphics cards in a leaked presentation, the Radeon RX 470, and the Radeon RX 460. The RX 470 will be AMD's attempt at a graphics card that plays everything at 1080p resolution, under $150. The Radeon RX 460, on the other hand, is based on the new 14 nm Polaris11 "Baffin" silicon, and could be ideal for MOBA games with light GPU requirements.

The Radeon RX 470 is carved out from the Polaris10 "Ellesmere" silicon that the RX 480 is based on, it features 2,048 stream processors across 32 GCN compute units, 128 TMUs, 32 ROPs, and a 256-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 4 GB of memory. The card draws power from a single 6-pin PCIe power connector. The Radeon RX 460, on the other hand, features 896 stream processors across 14 compute units, 2 GB of GDDR5 memory across a 128-bit wide memory interface, and relies on the PCI-Express slot entirely for power. The reference RX 460 board looks quite similar to the Radeon R9 Nano, but features a simpler spiral heatsink under the fan. Despite rumors to the contrary, it looks like Vega is on-course for a 2017 launch after all.

What Should Investors Expect from AMD’s Fiscal 2Q16 Earnings? PART 7 OF 10
Could AMD’s Polaris Graphic Cards Power Apple’s New Macs?
By Paige Tanner | Jul 8, 2016 3:33 pm EDTAMD) launched its first Polaris GPU (graphics processing unit), the Radeon RX 480, at the very appealing price of $199. This attracted many PC (personal computer) makers, such as Dell, HP (HPQ), and Lenovo, which have been struggling with declining PC sales. The advent of VR (virtual reality) has raised new hopes among PC makers.

According to NVIDIA (NVDA), only 1% of PCs in use support VR. A consumer has to spend $1,000 to update their PC and another $500 on a GPU as most PC OEMs (other equipment manufacturers) do not integrate $500 GPUs. AMD, with its cheap Polaris GPU, is targeting these PC OEMs as they are the ones that will lead to the success of the GPU at a commercial level.

Im not sure that VR is going to be responsible for the next upgrade cycle.

Ive shown demos of VR to my neighbors, the think its very cool, but they are not rushing out to upgrade their PC's.

hmmm. I get the opposite from daughter, and friends. I think the bottom line is it affordable for the masses. Right now they can't keep their cards on the shelf. But are right it may have mixed results.

If apple does embed in their PC it could be a big thing in the Apple world

Naturally the gaming community is all over it.

Every gamer I know has already upgraded to a 10 series GTX or getting the AMD soon.

They should do a Pokemon Go VR for PC!!!
