It's never wrong to take profits. Does your broker/dealer let you set trailing stops? Maybe a 5% trailing stop would be in order, or if you have a lot of shares consider selling 1/2 of your position

AMD Takes Graphics Share From Nvidia For The Fourth Consecutive Quarter
Mercury Research has just released its quarterly graphics share report over the weekend, showing AMD taking share again from Nvidia in Q2. Making this AMD’s fourth consecutive quarterly graphics share gain. Q2 2016 was a busy quarter for both companies which saw them introduce their new lineups of next generation, FinFET based discrete graphics products.

According to Mercury Research, AMD gained 4.8 share points up from 29.4% in Q1 to 34.2% in Q2 2016. However, the company saw the biggest gain in the desktop discrete segment, which climbed by 7.3 share points to 29.9% in Q2, up from 22.6% in Q1 2016. According to the company, Q2 saw the strongest quarterly channel GPU sales since 2015. The chip maker attributes this significant share gain and sales growth in Q2 to its next generation lineup of Polaris GPUs.

AMD Takes Graphics Share From Nvidia For The Fourth Consecutive Quarter
Now sitting at 34.2% of the graphics market AMD has nearly doubled its share in 12 months, which was down to as low as 18% in the same time last year. Effectively returning the company to its recent long-term share average of ~35% between 2012 and 2015. Following this 12 month recovery the company is now looking to breakaway with more long-term share growth. Driven by a ramp of its next generation graphics product Vega which is set to succeed Polaris in 2017.

AMD Lays Out the Argument for Zen at Hot Chips Show

    upload_2016-8-23_23-19-10.png

Company engineers outline the myriad innovations in the new CPU microarchitecture that drove performance and efficiency improvements in Zen.
Officials with Advanced Micro Devices went to the Hot Chips 2016 show to preach the benefits of "Zen."

Company executives last week were in San Francisco at a hotel nearby where larger rival Intel was holding its annual developer conference to demonstrate the new Zen microarchitecture that will form the basis of future processors that will power everything from fanless notebooks to supercomputers for high-performance computing (HPC) environments.

Late in the game but I've been watching this for a while. Bought some $9 calls - let's see how this plays out.

Trying to understand calls here so just so I'm clear. The Jan $9 calls is a contract giving you the right to buy AMD at $9 per share up until January? And the cost is 0.86 per contract? And so that would then mean you are expecting it to go higher than 9 by January?

Well you are effeminately expecting the stock to go higher as will the the 86 cents accordingly.. You can sell them at any time and reap the profit on a climbing stock. The price can deteriorate prior to expiration date (another matter). I normally take the profit prior to expiration. Occasionally I will buy the shares on expiration day if I feel the stock is going higher as I did o my $4 and $6 calls on AMD.

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.'s Best Product in 2016 So Far
AMD's Radeon RX 480 is the company's best chance at growing its GPU market share.

By virtually any measure, 2016 has been fantastic for AMD shareholders. Year-to-date, AMD stock has risen nearly 160%, and is currently trading near levels not seen since 2012.

Why has AMD performed so spectacularly? Although a number of factors have gone in AMD's favor this year, much of its rally can be traced to one product: the Radeon RX 480.

    Targeting budget buyers
The market for dedicated graphics processors is dominated by just two companies: AMD and NVIDIA. Of the two, AMD is the smaller player. Last quarter, around 10 million graphics cards were shipped worldwide, of which about 30% were powered by AMD's chips, according to Jon Peddie Research. The remaining 70% relied on chips from rival NVIDIA.

But that 30% is a notable improvement from last year. In the second quarter of 2015, AMD captured just 18% of the graphics card market. That upswing could continue, led by AMD's new family of processors.

In June, AMD unveiled three graphics processors based on its new Polaris architecture: the Radeon RX 480, RX 470, and RX 460. As the flagship card in AMD's lineup, the RX 480 is the most intriguing. It retails for just $199, but is able to power virtual reality headsets, including the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

Realistically, if we can get past 7.75 which is a current resistance then we can go all the way up to 7.95-8.00. otherwise 7.50-760 low
