Boeing, Lockheed to launch habitats for space tourists and researchers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Bigelow Aerospace’s expandable space habitat just arrived at the International Space Station, but the company is already thinking about the next steps: flying even larger inflatable habitats into space to be used for research and even space hotels.

The company announced at a conference here Monday that the United Launch Alliance, the joint venture of Boeing and Lockheed Martin, would deliver the habitats, starting in 2020, to space, where they would orbit the Earth more than a couple hundred miles high.

The deal was heralded as a significant step toward commercializing space and creating a viable self-sustaining economy where businesses could thrive without being propped up by government. The companies said that the deal marked “first-ever commercial partnership between a launch provider and a habitat provider,” without the direct involvement of NASA.

New industries would proliferate, predicted Robert Bigelow, founder of Bigelow Aerospace, and "help pay for the future pursuit of eventual lunar enterprises."

On Friday, SpaceX ferried a smaller Bigelow habitat to the space station under its contract to resupply the station with cargo and science experiments. The module, made of a Kevlar-like substance, is scheduled to soon be attached to the station, and tested to see how it fares against the heat, radiation and debris floating around in space.

Astronauts will enter that habitat, called the Bigelow Expandable Activity Module, or BEAM, a few times a year to inspect how it is doing and take measurements. About the size of a small bedroom, the BEAM would stay on the station for two years, before being jettisoned.

Tough spot right now for BA, as they are a pawn in the US-China trade conflict. And a new executive, that also brings more uncertainty. Expecting to see a dip. But nothing fundamentally wrong with the company.

News hit the wires that Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) inked a $16.6 billion deal with Iran for a bunch of planes. This may seem bullish to investors but I assure you the stock is near a major top and pull back. First, the stock chart is within a few Dollars of an epic double top. Second, Donald Trump already has bashed Boeing Co and third, Trump has also bashed the lifting of sanctions with Iran. All of this mixed up in a pot signals a high reward short trade to me at $158-$160. The first pull back target is $150 and the second pull back target is $137.00. Enjoy the ride.

Hitting that $160 target in after hours trading as they up their buyback program and dividend.

I'm short at $155.00. This could get painful.

Also, last time I looked at Boeing, after I sent short, I noticed it was Hard To Borrow.

If that keeps up, ugh. Painful.

The big news for most is that Boeing announced it will be increasing its quarterly dividend by 30% to $1.42 per share and pumping up its share buyback program to $14 billion.
With the new dividend rate, Boeing's dividend yield is a commanding 3.6%, which should prove attractive for income-oriented investors.
