[This post is neither COVID-19 news or an update (as per the thread title). This post is more in the "discussion" category.]

There are a pretty good number of folks on Stockaholics that have stated in various threads on the site that they do not see COVID-19 as any greater *health* threat than seasonal flu. Clearly, by now, it is apparent to all that COVID-19 is a greater *economic* threat than seasonal flu, what with The Fed Reserve emergency actions the past 2 weeks, market free fall, supply chain disruptions, flight and cruise cancellations, sport season interruptions, and so on. And surely it is a fair debate to question the extent that this economic impact is exacerbated by media exposure and good ole human nature, and the extent to which it is a lasting impact. I don't think any of us could truly know that just yet.

Rather, what I am wondering from the "no-worse-than-seasonal-flu" Stockaholics members is at what point would you question whether COVID-19 is a greater *health* threat than seasonal flu? My assumption is that IF coronavirus deaths surpass the oft-quoted 61,000 US-based flu deaths (from one of the more brutal flu seasons last winter: see https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/index.html ), you might reassess your view. Or perhaps coronavirus deaths need to be some multiple or percentage of seasonal flu deaths? Or maybe another health outcome measure would suffice? I'm not talking about the number of deaths to justify the economic impacts we've seen either....that's likely an unresolvable debate on a forum like this. Only the number of deaths or other health outcomes you would need to see to conclude that COVID-19 is (or "was" at the end of the event) a greater *health* threat than seasonal flu. Can anybody share some of their thinking about this?

Some people are stupid, some people are just ignorant, and some people just assume "it can't happen here!".

At this point I prefer some kind of lockdown to be honest. Lets have some short term pain and get it over with, now it seems like the situation will just gonna get worse

Restaurants aren’t closed here in Hawaii yet, but spring break is extended for a week for public schools and malls are reducing their hours.

The economy for Hawaii relies on tourism a lot though so I guess we will take a pretty big hit. It could actually be worse than the 2008 to 2009 financial crisis for us here

We have a TV Station here (TELE5) that airs a lot of B catastrophe movies..
My Girlfriend is a writer and likes them, he he he.. Sometimes i watch some with her..
Lets have some self made popkorn and Watch.. Virus 4 or Tsunami 5 he he he

Yesterday, watching CNN, NBC, NTV, ARD, ZDF, to inform us..

I felt the same watching the News.. Surreal.. Two people same mind..

    Then She said it

Have a look at the News arent they look like inthe B movies that we saw a lot.

The Pan-demy starts, the over reacting anchors, no one has a clue.. And all speeds up..

Watching them on English give us here a extra kick. It really surreal.

Now, Mr. Trump should have a clue, do something like in the movies and the pandemy
is gone after 90 minutes. Thats what we expect. From the movies drawn to reality.. ;)

I have to attend to a wedding in Greece in 6 Weeks.

    We will see.

    Greets, and stay safe..

    Z.

If we don’t do a lot more testing soon, I am afraid a large scale lockdown is coming :(
