I"m not sure I understand. Do you have it written? All movies have the same story arch. It is well documented and, unfortunately, once you know it you can't help but see it in every movie, tv, and play. You must have read this.. https://www.amazon.com/Story-Substance-Structure-Principles-Screenwriting/dp/0060391685/ref=sr_1_3? What sort of feedback would be helpful?
The feedback you just gave is plenty helpful and I thank you for it. No, the script is still being written and changing constantly. And, yes once you watch tons of movies they do all seem to have the same structure. It's a true and tried formula. I'm not looking to re-invent the wheel but if I can hold an audience's attention for 90 minutes my mission will be accomplished.
Work this place into the script, a slice of reality, big bettors, little bettors, and everything in between, in real life on these boards we thrive, we live, we enjoy, the market is one of our passions.
I'd like to point out, there are also some investors on this site. In fact, there are a few folks who seem to be well onto the scent of an investing approach to wealth creation. The outstanding thread WXYZ created is attracting some new blood that has tired of losing money in the trading game and has moved onto buying good companies because they want to own them.
The biggest gamblers of all. When the next recession hits the machines will shut down all bids, liquidity will dry up like Death Valley roadkill, the boomers will get out of the market...for good... and the debt-ridden millennials won't be there to take up the slack.
Defeatist? I think you missed the point or misused the word, as I have no expectation that either myself or other traders here will fail during the next recession because we manage our positions and will cut our small losses and go short or otherwise get correctly positioned. Sorry for the snark, but I simply don't understand the continued and misplaced unfriendly and tiresome negative attitude toward traders and resort to self-aggrandizing statistically-insignificant personal allegory. Might I suggest bringing these "new bloods" forward to tell their sad stories of losing money in the "trading game" despite their advanced knowledge on the subject or adopting a more positive approach to your promotions without wiping shit on everyone else.
Let's relax guys, the premise of this thread is a guy who's writing a movie. Does anybody wanna watch a movie about an investor who leaves his money in a company for 10 years when the main storyline of the movie involves the market it sounds like? If it works to make you money, great. But as a movie, it would get old fast-forwarding 3 months at a time to watch him open his portfolio, make sure nothing has tanked, and then fast forward another 3 months. Day trading would be the only interesting "investment" style TO WATCH.
Sorry @T0rm3nted, but maybe a scene after a 1929-like crash featuring an investor standing in front of his medicine cabinet, his wrists opened by the very razor blades he invested in, would be interesting. EDIT: No, no, no, I take it back. EDIT2: If you use that Emmett, I want a credit. Edit3: Or credit for an alternate ending... the investor sitting in his garaged Tesla, windows down, TSLA stock certificates in hand, with a 1929 Ford running and exhausting carbon monoxide in the next stall. . Cut, fade to credits with the '29 Ford orbiting the earth and the investor sitting in the driver seat and the orbiting Tesla passing him with a smiling Elon Musk mechanically waving behind the wheel.
We need to do lunch and talk about Edit 3, which is friggin' funny as hell. Productions costs would be high unless we use miniature models for the long shots. The '29 market crash suicide has probably been done, but I like the idea. My main character is going to get in deep financial trouble but I'm thinking of a more uplifting ending.
Gets a job offer at a trading desk, only to find out the company is taking opposite trades to his.....lol
How about the "Hapless Hero" who's in deep financial trouble joins a forum and teams with other like minded traders and together they make a small fortune, albeit separately, and everyone lives happily ever after?
I share your perspective, to a point, but wish to offer my own. I read WXYZ's investing storyline and found it interesting. I don't recall any specific holdings, other than Microsoft in the early days, and yet I vividly recall how his grandfather and mother built wealth and how he has built wealth using a similar strategy. The point being, I am more interested in his journey and approach than I am his holdings or trades. I've watched feature length documentaries on Warren Buffett, Jack Boggle, and shorter pieces about others. I find these interesting, as well. I love watching numbers, as I suspect we all do, but I'm not interested in other people's numbers. I wonder if anyone is? Comments appreciated. Trading is pure drama. The life of an investor is a human interest story. To be direct, I'm more interested in the latter. All of you traders will realize investing is the way to go when the financial apocalypse hits and Journey's End Razor Co grows 100 fold. Don't miss out on this long term investing opportunity. $JERC
Your input has triggered some ideas, but yeah, like tormented said, this a narrative feature film. Thanks.
fwtiw, i started off as a swing trader and only had one monitor for years which was all i needed because was holding stocks for days/weeks/months. Moved up to 2 monitors when i started to get more into day trading - had 3 monitors briefly before traveling which was the absolute best - liked having TOS/broker on its own monitor and in separate browser. Am still traveling and back to working with 2 monitors which works but i was spoiled via 3 but not into carting my desktop and 3 monitors along with printer/scanner, clothes and now i think a kitten/cat too lol i use online broker and only call if/when i have a problem buying/selling online. Believe stockjock-e mentioned TOS and you can download that and set it up to have real time chart - level 2 - time/sales - your buy/sell info all right there for your actor
Any time I've seen a trading setup that was intended to impress, it has 6 monitors. My last dentist has one of these in a room connected to the clinic space. He is a day trader. The reason I left his care is because he is a compulsive gambler. https://multimonitorcomputer.com/best-6-monitor-free-standing-stands.php
