Lumentum Holdings Inc. manufactures and sells optical and photonic products for optical networking and commercial laser customers worldwide. It operates in two segments, Optical Communications and Commercial Lasers. The Optical Communications segment offers components, modules, and subsystems that enable the transmission and transport of video, audio, and text data over high-capacity fiber optic cables. It offers optical communication products, including optical transceivers, optical transponders, and supporting components, such as modulators and source lasers; modules or sub-systems containing optical amplifiers, reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers or wavelength selective switches, optical channel monitors, and supporting components; and products for 3-D sensing applications, including a light source product. This segment serves customers in telecom and datacom markets.

Lumentum (LITE) climbed nearly 3%. The provider of optical communications products for the telecommunications and other industries recently rose 20% past a 28.01 buy point of a 15-week consolidation. Those who bought at the breakout should consider selling at least some shares, as growth stocks tend to correct after rising more than 20% past their buy points.

This is a (currently) ~$45 stock that moves $2.25 in an average day, so over 4% moves in a day.
Now looks like a good time to take a chance on it

The first rectangle from last year shows a trading range that it came strongly out of. The second rectangle from last quarter shows another range that it broke out of but is now threatening to go back into it.

But it has already come down 11 straight days to touch the lower Bollinger. Volume picked up yesterday on an inverted hammer; today it gapped up, and so far yesterday's low is holding.

The company is part of the "optical networking supercycle" (like AAOI, FNSR), and may be part of "the iPhone supercycle" (WSJ's words: https://www.wsj.com/articles/apple-tech-suppliers-who-could-win-from-iphone-supercycle-1489571454)

Oclaro (OCLR) spiked 24% at the starting bell, after Lumentum (LITE) announced it would acquire the company in a $1.8 billion cash-and-stock deal. Lumentum, reportedly a supplier of technology used in Apple's (AAPL) Face ID applications, said the combination aimed to fast-forward its participation in the market for 3D sensing technology.

Nice volatile year for LITE last year. That big range just technically gives it more potential for a really big move this year.

    https://www.investors.com/news/tech...ented-reality-headset-present-new-opportunity

    The Future...
Apple is widely expected to roll out an augmented reality headset in late 2022 or 2023. AR apps overlay digital imagery onto real-world settings. Facebook parent Meta Platforms (FB) leads in AR headsets, though its shipments are still small.

"While still in early development stages, (LITE) management believes high-end AR/VR headsets can feature as many as four to six sensors per system," Rolland said. "While lower-end models may opt for just one or two sensors per system, the content would still be similar to that of 3D sensing for (smartphones)."

    ...Hopefully better than The Past
In the smartphone market, Lumentum was an early supplier of 3D sensors to Apple. Apple uses Lumentum's 3D sensors in its iPhones to support facial recognition for unlocking screens.

But Apple opted to source 3D sensors from multiple suppliers to keep pricing competitive. II-VI (IIVI), which acquired Finisar, also sells 3D sensors to Apple.

LITE has slowly been taking out competition itself, acquring Oclaro (formerly OCLR) and Neophotonics (formerly NPTN).

    Next ER on Feb 8.
