From what they say on the local sports radio station in the Chicago area, they just recently found out that concussions are NOT what leads to CTE, and instead it's any impact to the head (so basically every play in the NFL for most players). Originally they thought concussions were what caused it. Could be way off base, but they were quoting some new study from some University
I'm wondering if people are jumping to the conclusion that 99% of players have CTE just because 99% of players have tau proteins in the brain. I would not be surprised if any impact to the head causes tau buildup to form. But it's thought that buildup is protective to the brain; when the buildup gets dislodged (possibly by concussion) then it is thought to be bad.
is it a little too early to start thinking about the upcoming nfl season right now? i got nothin' besides the world cup ... can't really get into the baseball season until we get into sept.
so i know we still have about another month to go until the start of the nfl reg. season (pre-season starts this week though), but i thought it was worth mentioning in here that yours truly has tix to the panthers/giants game in early oct. will be going with my nephew and niece which is always fun. lookin' forward to that.
Nice Cy I know you will enjoy the game with your nephew Yeah feeling pretty excited that the season is just few weeks away, but for me mostly for fantasy football
indeed. nice to have football back. alright, so with week 1 officially getting underway tomorrow let's get some early season predictions going in here. 1.) first let's hear some regular season predictions on our favorite teams. 2.) who you guys think will do well and/or surprise this season. and finally, 3) i mean, i know it's a waaay too early for this discussion, but just for the hell of it -- let's hear who you guys think will ultimately come out on top this season (aka, winning the vince lombardi trophy ). if you want you guys can also post your prediction on which 2 teams would meet in the super bowl. ________________________________________________________________________________ i'm kind of running short on time here so i'll just make mine super brief: 1) i'm really hoping the panthers do well again this season, but unlike prior seasons i'm not really feeling all that optimistic. i'll say we don't win our division, but we'll find a way get into the playoffs. 2) i think the cleveland browns could actually surprise this season. i'd like to see a turnaround story there tbh. 3) this one is really going out on a limb here, but my prediction for the super bowl this season is raiders vs. eagles with the raiders winning it all.
1. Chicago Bears. 8-8. I was going to predict 6-10, but the Bears added Khalil Mack and the hype around here has increased by everyone else, so against my better judgment, I'm actually getting excited for Bears football again. 2. Surprise teams this season: drawing a blank. Teams that I can think of that will do well aren't really surprises IMO: 3. Patriots win the super bowl against the Rams
not a bad opener to the season for my panthers, looking forward to seeing how they do on the road against atlanta tomorrow (assuming i have power go away florence! )
hmm, so we've got cincy @ home this week ... no idea what to expect, but the bengals are looking kinda good early season thus far. panthers last game @ atlanta was not really any surprise ... we haven't won a game there in years. bucs are looking good @OldFart looks like you've got something to root for this season man!
no football for me this weekend with the panthers bye week this week, but just caught the final of the bears/bucs game ... is it true the bears put up 38 in the first half?
The Bears have been an awesome surprise. Trubisky thru for 6 TD's today Didn't watch more than the 1st quarter though because I had to take a nap before work tonight. Bears got an early bye week next week, hopefully they come back from that as white hot as they have started the season.
The Bears all of the sudden are looking pretty good, the offense was clicking last week. Let's see if the offense can keep it up though, their defense is legit
woohoo! finally the big day is here at last! can't wait. will see if i can throw in a few pics in here after the game. here's to hoping for a great game.
running very short on time this AM and will post more later, but just wanted to sign in real quick here to say, that might've just been the greatest pro sports game (or at least ending) that i've personally ever attended yesterday.
